Neurontin for muscle pain

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin for muscle pain

neurontin

Avatar f tn Neurontin, Lyrica for the nerve pain, and Baclophen or Flexeril for the muscle spasms. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn ve been on neurontin for many years and I also take a muscle relaxer at times but its not tizadine its flexeril....
Avatar f tn My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
Avatar n tn Most of the time I still use the same number of pills per day of everything but I can switch up the schedule to get a milder or stronger effect depending on if I am having a good pain day or a flare up day. On flare up days, when I take the neurontin in conjunction with either percocet or valium 2 hours after the extended release morphine gets going, I get super fuzzy for awhile but my pain flare also goes down a lot too.
630344 tn?1280104983 I find that neurontin is helpful in covering up some of the neuropathic pain associated with my illnesses. It will do nothing for muscle pain, just like how NSAIDs (like Advil) will do nothing for nerve pain. Also, as my doctor described it to me, it can take awhile to hit the right dosage with neurontin. Too little and it won't help, too much and you can get into lots of side effects (drowsiness being a big one). Often it's best to start small and slowly up the dose.
Avatar f tn t talked to you before, but I would like to say hi and give you some advice about joint and muscle pain. I am sorry you are having these problems, I feel for you. I have Stills disease which is a arthritis kind of like rheumatoid arthritis, it is very painful. Do your joints become hot, warm, red, swollen or tender? Are you running any kind of fever? Do you have any rashes? Are both of the legs or arms affected or just one side? Have you tried naproxen? Meloxicam? Flexeril? Baclofen?
Avatar n tn Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if you do have ms and it is the type that causes nerve pain and muscle spasms when you start taking the drugs they put you on do you get relief from the pain?
Avatar f tn I just want people struggling with the debilitating side effects of vicodin withdrawal know that they don't have to suffer. Ask your doctor for neurontin or gabbbapentin. I am a 3 year severe (20-30) norco addict and I decided to stop the maddness but was afraid of the muscle pain i've felt before. With neurontin I have none of those spasms cramps or depression and mood swings. It also gives me no "high" feeling at all so its not a temptation for abuse or addiction.
Avatar f tn Hello, Are you experiencing a lot of pain from the BFS? I have been on Neurontin before for nerve damage in my spine and have heard it can cause muscle cramps in some people. I have also heard, and I don't usually sway people in this direction on MedHelp, but Opiates, such as Oxycontin, are very helpful for your condition. I am assuming you are speaking of Benign fasciculation syndrome? Correct?
Avatar n tn Neurontin. You would still have to get a prescription of it from your doc. But I was a heroin addict for 4 years, and thats what i used to help with muscle aches, pain, and insomnia. And that withdrawl is a lot worst. Also a good thing about muscle relaxers is most of them are non addictive unlike vicodin, perkocet, oxy's, xanax. so on...they helped me a lot. Im on Lyrica right now, its like a muscle relaxer, but its really for fibermialga patients for pain..
Avatar m tn That is what I call Tweeks, you get tweeked and more pain for about three days to a week. I was on Neurontin and actually have myofascial pain but they thought it may have been a nerve at first. The neurontin didn't do a thing for me. I was on 1200mg/day and it took me two months to get off of it because I got insomnia and had to take benedryl to get off of it and be able to sleep. It is low on side effects except feeling tired and dumb.
Avatar f tn I took neurontin for approx 10 years. It helped with my muscle spasms a great deal. I finally developed a tolerance to it up to the maximum recommended dosage, so switched to a different med. But it worked very well for me, with low side effects. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Check with a doctor to be sure but medications like Neurontin are infamous for their pain relieving qualities. It's actually an anti-seizure med that works on the receptors in the brain to decrease pain. The bad side is you do have to taper off it as quitting cold turkey can cause seizures but the good side is it's not addictive and it's not a narcotic. Like I said, check with a doctor as there's many more like that. I'll get yelled at if I start listing them here!!
Avatar f tn Talk to your doctor and try to get some help in finding out if your pain is nerve based because if it is Neurontin can help. Neurontin is used for nerve pain. Also you can talk to your doctor to find out if some of the pain is from muscle spasms because there is a medication that might help called flexeril. It's a muscle relaxer but in my experience not a very strong one so it may help. Have you been diagnosed with depression or fibromyalgia? Lyrica is used for both of these disorders.
432223 tn?1206549025 I have not taken Neurontin, but I have recently started taking Lyrica for nerve pain after neck surgery. I feel the Lyrica was like a miracle for me. My pain was cut at least in half and my quality of life has improved dramatically. I'm taking almost no narcotics now, so I have my sharp mind back. I have not yet had any side effects from the Lyrica, but of course everyone is different.
Avatar f tn I am having really awful intermittent pain in my arm. My neuro wrote a script for Lyrica. My big concern about these nerve pain drugs (Neurontin too) is the weight gain side effect. I struggle w/weight as it is and don't look forward to adding more. Please let me know what you may have experienced.
Avatar f tn I was put on it for nueropathic pain up my neck n down my arm. I have severe nerve damage. Cymbalta took all the pain away in my neck n some other nerve pain. I love it. It truely helped me. I also am on neurontin.
Avatar n tn In 2004, I added Neurontin to my pain management for prostatodynia (my uretha was burning like crazy), in addition to Norco 5/325. I had gone through biofeedback and it helped some but I still needed the pills. The pain management doctor's PA told me Neurontin would help and had few side effects. She was right about the first, but wrong about the second.
1943759 tn?1324045251 If it only lasts for a few days you can have him take Tramadol or Vicadin (but only for a few days). If the pain is there for long perioids of time then drugs that help neuropathies like neurontin or Lyrica may help. I don't usually recommend physical therapy but after the has gone down and if it is disk decompression there are some stretching exercises he can do daily that will help with the decompression. My brother in law has this and it has helped him a lot.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I have sciatica symptoms and am wondering what drugs other than Tylenol and Ibuprofen, I can take for Sciatica pain, that isn't contraindicated with clonazepam. I have been on clonazepam for 30 years for cyclic vomiting syndrome/abdominal migraine. The sciatic pain is now intermittent (low one day high the next) and I have had it for 3 months. I see my NP tomorrow and wonder if there is anything I can suggest or ask for.
Avatar m tn re already on a NSAID and Neurontin, You state that the pain meds prescribed have not been effective. For what it's worth you may want to consider a different pain med; just because one was not effective does not mean a different one won't be. It may give you some pain relief until they can determine the cause of your pain and percribe better treatments. I wish you well and hope that you will let us know how you are doing.
1303402 tn?1273015558 Your description of the MS hug was very good, it was surprising how many people deal with this. My ab muscles stay tight all day long, but become so tight at night that they are painful. I've been on Neurontin for years, thigh muscles started my taking Neurontin. It helped for thighs, but hasn't helped any on abdominal muscle pain. Took up to 900mg 3 times daily which is over recommended doseage.
Avatar f tn They would try to find the physical cause. I have just been given Neurontin, for pain and Xanax for better sleep and anxiety. Any info on above mentioned problems, medications would be appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar m tn My pain management dr has put me on Neurontin to help with thoracic back pain, I have herniated discs that basically are not going to be fixed, no doctor wants to touch it. My question is how is this drug for long term treatment of severe pain, he also has me on Norco but I am hesitant to take because of addiction potential. If anyone has any input please let me know.
5288248 tn?1370878523 Hey girl! I didn't take the Neurontin for wds, but I did take it for a short time for nerve pain and RLS caused by my back. It did help with that stuff quite a bit. Unfortunately I was having a bad reaction to it and felt all shaky and had a racing heart, so I had to stop taking it. Are you getting ready to jump off of the pain pills my friend?
