Common Questions and Answers about Mupirocin staph

Avatar m tn It was originally identified as staph and treated with Mupirocin and Clobetasol by my Dr. Unfortunately 2 weeks of use has done nothing. I haven't been able to see her again so I figured I'd post here. I have a feeling this could be fungal, but am not sure. As you can see in the pic, it is a red irritation and slightly raised. It has shown only minor response to both clobetasol and mupirocin. It has never itched.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and was told that it was a staph infection.I was given antibiotics and told to keep area clean. They did clear up entirely after about a week.I had them for two weeks previously before I had gone to doctor.I now have boils popping up again, but around my bellybutton area. What could be causing these?I also had a case of the shingles in this same area when I was eleven years old(many years ago).
Avatar m tn Then he prescribed Doxycyline Hylcate pills which are used for staph infections. It got rid of the the bumps for a few months like the Mupirocin, but they came back a week ago. My doctor has said the previous tests may have been false negatives since we may not have caught it early enough. I really don't if it is Herpes or a Staph infection. Can anyone assist?
Avatar m tn I am a female and recently was diagnosed with a staph infection. I took medication, was allergic to it, but the dots seemed to go away. They then came back and the doctors said that I tested negative for a staph infection. I do not know what it is though. They seem like small pimples and are itchy when they first appear on my skin. They started in my crotch region and have occurred in other places such as my butt or arm. I am not sure what it is though.
Avatar f tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be contact dermatitis or bacterial infection by staph aureus which is highly contagious. Apply warm compresses on the lumps and keep the area clean. Topical antiseptic treatment and topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment is very useful.
Avatar m tn A month and a half ago, a staph infection appeared on one of my temples. It started with a simple boil that formed and then disappeared in a couple days, and after that a large lesion and several others formed in the same area. Three days after finishing 10 days of Bactrim, another small boil appeared in the same area, so I took another 10 days of Bactrim and was put on 5 days of Altabax ointment. Since then, I have not seen any new boils.

Avatar n tn I am curious if you can develop a staph infection from close contact to someone with strep, considering I was nursing to him all weekend.
Avatar n tn Wash the area with warm water and keep it dry and clean at most times. Apply mupirocin, an antibacterial cream over the area once daily and see if this responds. After 5 days, if this does not respond, have your doctor see this. If discharge is present and if the bumps increase in number, then we may need oral antibiotics for this.
1132994 tn?1260332713 I shave my stomach regularly, could this be a razor bump or is it infected? (Like staph infection) It’s not painful and isn’t painful to the touch… It’s a dark bump with a really small dark spot in the middle (like where a hair is trying to grow out or something.) (I put Neosporin on it for the past two days.) Thanks for the help.
Avatar n tn In most cases of folliculitis, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph). It presents with pimples or pustules located around a hair follicle that may crust over . Topical antiseptic treatment is adequate for most cases. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment can be applied on the affected areas and is sufficient to cause a resolution. ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn Could this be some sort of folliculitis or staph infection from the waxing and friction from sex in hot weather? I also have a slight fever.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the STD forum. On one hand, any genital area ulceration has to be evaluated for herpes. On the other, I doubt that's what you have, for at least a few reasons. First, the location of lesion is wrong. HSV infections usually don't take unless the virus is massaged into the exposed tissues -- for which reason initial herpes lesions usually occur at the sites of maximum friction during sex.
Avatar n tn Hi, This could be a bacterial skin infection like Impetigo or an allergic reaction. Impetigo is a superficial skin infection, caused by staphylococcus ("staph") and streptococcus ("strep") bacteria. Though it is more common in children it can be seen in adults. The non-bullous variety is the common form, caused by both staph and strep. It appears as small blisters or scabs, which then form yellow or honey-colored crusts. These often start around the nose and on the face.

Avatar m tn I went to a doctor and he prescribed roxithoromycin and mupirocin. They got better after 2 weeks but after a few days many pimples appeared all over my body. I went to a doctor again and she prescribed erythromycin and more mupirocin. Using these antibiotics helped to control the disease but never caused it to disappear completely. After finishing the treatment course the pimples quickly came back in large numbers.
