Avatar n tn Does anyone out there know of a health facility that accepts mass health to an individual who is in great need of the morphine pump? We have gone to pain Management for many years and have had tried the stimulator but his body rejected it. Also, has had multiple fusions and scar tissue removal, steroids, spinal blocks, acupuncture, narcotics, holistic healing. In the end our Neurosurgeon suggested the morphine implant.
1535353 tn?1292709086 My doctor did say my very last option is a pain pump or a morphine pump. I honestly have never heard of these types of pain pumps. I will be flat out honest; I am terrified of living the rest of my life in pain. Does anyone know anything about pain pumps, what the general procedure is for it, and ultimately does it work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I see my doctor again in 2 days and I would like to be able to go in there as informed as possible.
Avatar f tn I was told 7-8 yrs. ago that a implanted pain pump would cause A LOT of chronic nausea which is something I have lived with for 40 yrs. or more. I have up-coming back sx. in January. What do you know about the nausea that is supposebly caused by the implanted pain pump? What other symptoms does the pain pump raise? Thank you for any help.

Avatar f tn I had the pain pump surgery in april. It has morphine and a numbing agent in it and can give myself an a extra dose every 4 hours. Having problems with severe sweating asked doctor about changing the meds in it and he said i would have to go into detox for 6 weeks. Does anyone know if this true? The pump was mainly for my spine and doesnt help much with other areas. Was on oral pain meds for 15 years and now have nothing for break thru pain. Is this the way they usually do it?
Avatar m tn t controlling my back pain. My Dr suggested a morphine pump. Does anyone have any experience with this? Also, I am olny suppose to take the SUB 3 x d but I usually end up taking 4 so I will run out to soon. That is what was happening with my oxy, perc, hydo, run out to early & withdrawl. Is that what is going to happen? How long will it be before it will start after taking my last dose? Since I have only been on it less than 3 weeks will the WDs be really bad?
Avatar m tn t know what your physical problem is but my sister in law had a morphine pump for chronic neuropathy pain and it helped for a while but started leaking spinal fluid after about a year. The morphine as you use it more causes more pain, so it isn't ideal not that anything is.
Avatar f tn I finally thought I should have the pain pump implanted. First time, the pump got infected and had to be removed. I also contracted spinal meningitis and almost died! I don't mean to scare anyone out there, because I read of amazing successes! Now I have had the pump implanted yet a second time; I am not getting any pain relief at all, I am gulping norco ev. 4 hours. I have gone back to pain doc and he has increased the morphine to l.6 (in hospital I was getting 2.5!
Avatar n tn I had morphine pump implanted on April 9th. I am not getting the pain controlled, it is as if I had no pain implanted at all. During trial I had complete pain relief. my pain doctor has tried morphine(terrible nausea, and I stopped being able to eat! now he has switched me to straight anesthesia, and I feel worse. should I try dilaudid? my daughter told me it changes your personality. Is this true? I would appreciate any comments. signed: not sure what to do?
Avatar n tn I am going to the Dr who implanted it, to see what my next option is after alot of research it seems i am in line for a pain pump.
925522 tn?1243968666 Hi i have had back problems for the last 9yrs and have just about tried everything on offer for pain, it as been suggested i have a intracl pump fitted and manage my pain is there anyone who has one of these and could give me some feedback as i find it a bit daunting. thanks pat This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/1280817'>Prialt</a>.
Avatar n tn No more effective in releiving the pain than the dilaudid or morphine was and very expensive. So, I;m back where I started. Just posting this as additional data re.prialt.
1318483 tn?1318347182 Not to mention when the pain gets so intense that I end up in the ER getting morphine. My pain has been uncontrolled since June. My neuro wants me to go to the pump. He doesn't feel that pills are the answer...that i am past that point now. He said both Baclofen and Morphine. At this point, I am ready for it. I am so tired of the pain and it only seems to increase and increase and increase. Between the muscle spasms and pain, I am exhausted. And, so over it. My quality of life...
Avatar n tn I have a good friend who is in stage 4 liver failure. He is also on a internal pain pump which dispenses morphine for the original malady of chronic pain. He is really out of it. Like he has dementia. We dont know what to do. He is too weak for interferon and will probably need a liver sooner or later. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing or know what I am talking about.
Avatar f tn My biggest question is with lower back and neck pain will I have to have 2 pumps put in for both or will one pump take care of the pain from both? Is there any draw back to having the pump put in? any problems or pain from it? sorry the doctors office wouldn't discuss this with me. Told me to look up info on here if I wanted to know about it. But gave me 2 DVDs to watch but told me I wouldn't get any info from them. so I threw them away.
Avatar n tn My sister underwent surgery a few months back and had a morphine pump inserted internally. She is 55yrs old and thinking of trying to move to Colorado from California (where the surgery was performed) and we are trying to locate a physician within the Boulder/Longmont area that can refill the pump when needed.
Avatar n tn When my Doctor and I were discussing what life would be like with my morphine pump, it did not sound half bad. Replacement is not an option unless there is a brand new one out there that both the company who supplied the pump wants you to have or your pump is malfunctioning. What is replaced yearly or once every two years is the battery and that is all. Battery replacement depends on the dose of morphine you are taking and how often the program on your pump is administering the medication.
Avatar f tn m currantly on, stay off for six weeks, get the morphine pump and then whatever pain not handled by the two combined, then handle that with oral meds. From what my Doctor said the need for oral meds after that is minimal to none at all. To say that to someone who has been taking 8 mg of dilaudid like candy and ms contin 60 to 90 three times a day for starters, I was completely up for the idea!!! Last year I had the nerve stimulator put in mid May.
Avatar f tn I am worried about the pain I will be in from the surgery. The doctor ask if I wanted a morphine pump or shots. I thought I would ask for some opions. I think with the pump you are better in control of your pain and do not have to waite for a nurse to come in and give you the shot. What do you think. Iwill have enough on my mind withthe ajustment in my life with this surgery.
Avatar f tn My neurosurgeon said that a person can develop tolerance with long-term use of a pump because the amount of morphine would have to increase as the pain increases, just like it does with oral pain meds. Has anyone had this experience? What did you or your doctor do? Question 2 WITHDRAWAL My same neurosurgeon said that if the pump broke releasing the morphine inside, a person would go into severe witihdrawal. Has this happened to anyone? I would think that overdose would be more likely...
Avatar m tn Hello Dooders, Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post. I do not have any experience with the pain pump. I know that we have members that have had them. It is a holiday and the board may be a bit slower than usual but hopefully someone will have a more informed response than I. In my opinion I don't think you were having detox systems. Although you did not swallow the morphine it was still in your system via the pain pump trial.
Avatar f tn I turned down morphine pump and nerve blocks got down to 50mg hydrocodone on my own, although lately pain swelling so much worse I have started taking higher doses of hydrocodone again to get grip on pain and function thru the day. I am seeing chiropractor just as of last week says he can help I am hopeful! Want off daily meds!
Avatar n tn I have have the pain pump for the last 15 yrs. Batteries need to be replaced by your clinic surgeon every 5 to 6 yrs. What the pump did for me is give me back the quality of life I once had. Good luck. Pumps. Are amazing for pain control. I tale no orals either.
Avatar f tn The only other thing I could suggest is the Fentanyl patch. What I assume you mean by slow release morphine is MS Contin, which is a very powerful drug, especially at 100mg. I have worked with a lot of patients that once put on the Fentanyl patch, finally felt releif. But it's not for everyone, the nausea symptoms of narcotics can be more intense. This is a 72 hour patch that you apply to your skin every three days.
Avatar f tn I had a pain med pump implanted in August '08 for lower back pain caused by failed back surgery syndrome. Does anyone know if there is a certain or approximate period of time that it takes for your body to adjust to a new dosage? I last had my pump re-programmed with a higher dose the beginning of January 2009 and scheduled for the next pump re-programming (upping the dosage) beginning of March 2009, but, I am in so such pain right now that I feel like I don't even have the pump!
Avatar f tn my desire to get off all meds or other options. He in turn talked to me about installing a morphine pump. Ok well I hate morphine & I would actually like to get off of it but I know that I will never be able to function without it due to the condition of my spine plus I have IC. My question is will the pump bypass the liver? My DR says it will bypass the liver & will stop the effect the pills are having on my liver?? Anyone here have experience with the pump?
Avatar m tn t control the pain pills so I had two spinal cord stimulators and a morphine pain pump installed approx. 7 years ago and the pain control has been fantastic until 3 days ago,, the informed that my pumps life is near its end and I have approx. 7 months left on the battery. well, its funny because I just saw the dr on the 10th of this month and 2 days later I started experiencing severe withdrawl symptoms, and they were freaking awful.
