3112530 tn?1434032033 I stopped the Fentanyl cold turkey and got off the morphine for a while until my doctor prescribed it for me again. The morphine does take the pain down one notch but the itches are annoying but it starts 8 hours later. When I take another morphine, the itches go away. Does this show I am addicted? I only take the morphine every 12 hours but if really in pain, I take another after 8 hours. What is this all about?
653169 tn?1303446369 I was especially asking for personal experience because, as you found, swelling nor edema is documented as a side effect of the morphine. However, since I have been an RN for over 10 years and was a pharmacy tech level A for several years before that, I am aware that there are more rarely reported side effects of medications that aren't documented! So, again, was only asking about personal experiences with the use of Morphine ER.
539209 tn?1225972263 For those on Lyrica, it does initially cause balance problems, and when I first started taking it, I couldn't drive for a several hours afterwards. Gradually various side effects went away, altho I am still careful with driving. Lyrica does work very well for some pain, and for me, to wake up for the first time in years without dreadful low back pain, so bad that it used to take me an hour to get out of bed, was a miracle.
1052851 tn?1307741160 My neurologist told me that opiates in general do not work for migraine pain for many people. But, some opiates do work for my migraine pain. I have never been given demerol before though. Morphine, personally, makes my migraine pain worse because it aggravates all of the nausea symptoms. Morphine tends to have a very high side-effect profile in terms of stomach upset and nausea... and, when it comes to migraines... well, you know how it is.
647120 tn?1256601651 I am pretty sure I need a maintenance drug, but morphine has always seemed to be overkill and not worth the weird side effects. I wonder why they are so OK with prescribing morphine and not lesser drugs like hydrocodone. I always heard it is because you need more and more, but don't you build tolerance with morphine, too? My only issue with hydrocodone is I can't sleep on it, so I'll need another drug.
Avatar f tn I have degenerative joint disease/disk disease and the pain pump was an option along with the spinal cord stimulator but these were/are a last resort for me as I have been on many drugs to control the pain. Morphine has many side effects and maybe your doctor is seeing some side effects which could be 'an answer' that is not being mentioned here. I know the opioid's did not work for my pain. Nerve blocks helped but remember the nerve does grown back over time.
Avatar f tn •Surgical complications, such as infection •Drug side effects (symptoms of overdose or underdose) •Blood (hematoma) or fluid (seroma) in the area where the pump is implanted •Spinal fluid leaks resulting in headaches or other problems, and injury to the spinal cord •A dislodged or blocked catheter •The pump could stop working •Inflammatory mass at the tip of the catheter These complications could cause a reduction in or loss of pain relief and may require surgery to correct http://www
2030686 tn?1351688548 I started double therapy yesterday and I just wanna make sure my sides are normal.. I had the chills from time to time, but I was hot more. What I'm concerned about is my legs and hips hurt so bad I could barely walk. I 'm on a high dose of vicodin and it didn't seem to touch this pain. I had a small amount of chest pain on the left side, but it was mild pain and didn't last long. I took a hot bath for my legs and it helped for a little while, but the pain came back.
Avatar m tn I am sorry to hear about your previous reaction to Morphine. Are you experiencing any reaction or similar side effects with the long acting Morphine (Kadian)? As Dmoonchild said Kadian IS Morphine. There are several brand names for MS (Morphine Sulfate)..... but in the end they are all basically the same or similar chemical structure.
Avatar n tn On flare up days, when I take the neurontin in conjunction with either percocet or valium 2 hours after the extended release morphine gets going, I get super fuzzy for awhile but my pain flare also goes down a lot too. During the week I typically take the neurontin 2 hours after the extended release morphine and I take the percocet much later (say ~5 hours later) and don't get a fuzzy feeling.
Avatar f tn Then best was I have found for using cannabis is eating it. It will help with pain more than morphine and is not addictive. Cannabis is a natural Herb not a man made drug! Help yourself and please check it out. God bless you!
Avatar n tn I've had 2 c sections. Hated them both. With my eldest, it was hard to bond. I was not allowed to hold her until I came out of recovery. I was given high powered pain meds that knocked me out, and later knocked her out. Everyone got to hold my baby and feed her before I did. My birthing plan said not to feed her in case of c section, just sugar water, that was ignored. I wasn't awake to protest so my desires were totally disregarded.
Avatar f tn Thank you very much for your help, I'll check out the website. And thank you also for your kind words! :) I don't know too much about mexiletine other than the recommended dose of 600 to 1,000mg, preferably the higher dose, for my pain. I'm only starting (currently 200mg,) so I have a way to go, but no side effects so far. I am very sensitive, and have tried all kinds of meds, with a lot of bad side effects, so I'm glad no probs so far.
Avatar m tn I have been on and off pain meds due to a neck injury for years. I took myself off of the OXy's i was taken and been off for about 3 weeks. The doc gave me some darvacets and I THINK they are giving me shortness of breath. I also, take 1 soma350 a day now and two zanaflex at night to relax my twitches Has anyone else had these symptoms?
Avatar m tn Our systems can be strange. You can take a medication - opiate or not - for years with no side effects. For reasons beyond my understanding our body builds antigens to this drug we may have taken for years - an allergic reaction begins. It can be in the form of a rash, hives or other SX (symptoms). If not recognized the allergic reaction can become severe. I don't know if that is what is happening to you. It's many of allergies initially presented.
Avatar m tn I was on Suboxone for two years, off for 3 months with opiates, and now on again for a month. The itching started small after a few weeks on Sub But now I scratch everywhere there is hair and just below my knees , my back arms, and high on my butt. Don't know for sure if the drug is the cause or maybe it would have happened anyway as these skin problems can attack anyone. I itch until the skin breaks and stings. Scabs form.
608001 tn?1220385902 If you will talk to your PM Dr I think you will find you have plenty of other options as far as medications and the ones you can take with lesser side effects. All narcotics do have side effects but some are more tolerable than others.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am curious about the tolerance issue you are speaking of. I have had a terriible problem with tolerance from opiates and analgesics ever since I was a was a child. So, when my Spondolylosthesis started rearing its ugly head and the debilitating pain began I had to get on meds. I have been on Methadone for the last 7 years and my Dr. wanted me on a "cleaner" medicine. He switched me to MSContin 30mg 2x and Vicaprofin 10mg 4x daily.
Avatar f tn When I started on the Percocet for BT Pain they gave me a headache. I even at one point went back to the Norco for the BT because it didn't do that to me. Tehy eventually stopped and now I can take them. You might call your Dr. and ask what he thinks about it. I was trying to remember, were you taking the Oxycontin before the Patch? I'm sorry, that I can't remember. I have an excuse for my memory, it's called "oldsheimer".
Avatar m tn my cousin, who has a severe neurological degenerative disease similar to MS has MUCH pain....was initially on vics....eventually his neurologist weaned him OFF the vics and ON to morphine....which he's currently taking and has been for awhile....morphine is much more regulated though....can never be called in to a pharmarcy....he has to go through this whole regime every month just to get his pills....i took one ONCE when i ran out of my lortabs at the time....
Avatar f tn Tramadol did not work for my pain after 2 FBS.
Avatar f tn I would make sure that this last prescription wasn't accidentally filled with the instant release and not the ER version... And I think you blended two med names with Oxycontin MS...Oxycontin is a med all by itself..It is Oxycodone in Continuous formula...hence the "contin"....MS usually stands for Morphine Sulfate and comes in both IR (immediate release) or ER (extended release formulas)... If it is a 12 hour version...then usually most Drs. are ok with dosing it every 8 hours..
Avatar m tn She has been on 100mg MS x3 and Oxycodone 5mg x 8 for breakthrough pain. She has recently had a neurostimulator implanted which seems to have been quite successful and now wants to begin reducing the opiates and get rid of their side effects. She is 80 years old and has high blood pressure. What protocol would be good to reduce the drugs? Is there a standard model to follow? I know it will probably not be possible to eliminate them completely because the neurostimulator is not perfect.
Avatar m tn What are the long term side effects of taking prescribed pain-killing medications (opioids) when the patient is using for chronic pain correctly. Specifically Hydrocodone and Morphine Sulfate as a chronic pain patient who is considered a narcotic dependent patient by virtue of time used, in excess of five years continuously.
