Avatar m tn I am suffering from chronic pain and am considering a morphine pump implant. What does the community feel about this?
1535353 tn?1292709086 My doctor did say my very last option is a pain pump or a morphine pump. I honestly have never heard of these types of pain pumps. I will be flat out honest; I am terrified of living the rest of my life in pain. Does anyone know anything about pain pumps, what the general procedure is for it, and ultimately does it work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I see my doctor again in 2 days and I would like to be able to go in there as informed as possible.
Avatar f tn I was told 7-8 yrs. ago that a implanted pain pump would cause A LOT of chronic nausea which is something I have lived with for 40 yrs. or more. I have up-coming back sx. in January. What do you know about the nausea that is supposebly caused by the implanted pain pump? What other symptoms does the pain pump raise? Thank you for any help.
Avatar n tn I have a medtronic pump implanted I have morphine, burapain and cloadine ( sorry about spelling) for about 5 years and I have reached a point where my pain level is staying around 9 to 10. I am moving to a pain clinic closer to where I live soon and wonder what other pain meds could I use in my pump to get my pain back under control? I have RSD, Lupus and Fibromyalsia and my pain pretty much goes from my neck all the way down to my feet.

Avatar f tn I have had my Medtronic Intrathecal pain pump implant for 15yrs & the only problem I ever had was when the battery quit and I went through withdrawal. ER didn't know what to do for me, only my pain clinic Dr figured it out. This implant has made it possible for me to get out of bed most days. That is why I overcame 2 cancers, so I could get going with my husband & with my Life. Going to get a refill every month is certainly worth it to me, to be able to keep going.
659218 tn?1225496912 So my pain management doc wants to do a trial morphine pump bc nothing else is really working. Nothing, I have tried just about everything.....fentynal patch, etc. I am currently on Lortab, Soma, xanex, neurotin and ambeim cr 12.5, yes, the pain is 24/7 so I am asking for adcice on the pump! Plzzzzzzzzz all who are on it plzzzzzzz advise! Thank you so much. PS. I am sick of all the pills!
Avatar m tn Last December, I had a morphine pump implanted. It was heaven. It became infected. My PM quickly consulted with my primary doc who happens to be a very-well regarded infectous disease specialist. They decided to explant the pump. My PM shuddered and replied "never", when I broached the topic of a second chance. On the other hand my primary doctor said, "we could leave the door open" (on the subject of another try of the pump). PLEASE, give me some plans of attack.
Avatar f tn Do some research on the Medtronic Pain Pumps and the PAIN MEDS but also be aware (as I was not) that if you do pass the trial successfully and your approved for the pump implant, the medication dose that is originally programmed into your pump is the LOWEST possible dose. My pump contains Morphine and for the first 4+ months, I was on a 3 week schedule for pain med pump adjustments until I ultimately got some relief.
Avatar n tn When my Doctor and I were discussing what life would be like with my morphine pump, it did not sound half bad. Replacement is not an option unless there is a brand new one out there that both the company who supplied the pump wants you to have or your pump is malfunctioning. What is replaced yearly or once every two years is the battery and that is all. Battery replacement depends on the dose of morphine you are taking and how often the program on your pump is administering the medication.
1318483 tn?1318347182 If it does happen, then I will be a good candidate for the pump and they will inplant it in me as soon as possible. They do the test first because the implant and use of the pump is very expensive and they don't want to do the implant only to learn that it isn't helpful. I should have included this in my original post, but as far as my bathroom safety...I do have a shower chair. It was actually in the shower with me when I fell.
Avatar n tn What is the drug Trialt which is used in infusion pumps rather than Morphine or Dilauded ?
Avatar n tn t even remember anyone contemplating having their baclofen pump removed but one of our members wanted to have her medtronic morphine pump replaced because it was malfunctioning. Is there a reason you want to go back to oral baclofen? I have no idea how the two compare in efficiency to control the spasms. Welcome again - I hope to see you around some more.
Avatar n tn I had morphine pump implanted on April 9th. I am not getting the pain controlled, it is as if I had no pain implanted at all. During trial I had complete pain relief. my pain doctor has tried morphine(terrible nausea, and I stopped being able to eat! now he has switched me to straight anesthesia, and I feel worse. should I try dilaudid? my daughter told me it changes your personality. Is this true? I would appreciate any comments. signed: not sure what to do?
1240421 tn?1279547358 Regarding the implantation of a morphine pump, results have varied. Some of our members have claimed great relief, others have had some major issues. I do not have any personal experience with the morphine pump. I do beleive that they will do a trial implant which should give you some better information in which to base your final decision. I encourage you to research the pros and cons. Education is the only way to make an informed decision in my opinion.
Avatar n tn My sister underwent surgery a few months back and had a morphine pump inserted internally. She is 55yrs old and thinking of trying to move to Colorado from California (where the surgery was performed) and we are trying to locate a physician within the Boulder/Longmont area that can refill the pump when needed.
Avatar f tn I had the pain pump surgery in april. It has morphine and a numbing agent in it and can give myself an a extra dose every 4 hours. Having problems with severe sweating asked doctor about changing the meds in it and he said i would have to go into detox for 6 weeks. Does anyone know if this true? The pump was mainly for my spine and doesnt help much with other areas. Was on oral pain meds for 15 years and now have nothing for break thru pain. Is this the way they usually do it?
1318483 tn?1318347182 m pretty sure there a couple of people with morphine pumps on here. DJ has a pump but off the top of my head, I 'm not sure what kind.
925522 tn?1243968666 t had the pain med pump but my sister in law had a morphine pump for a couple of years. It helped for a while but in the end it started leaking spinal fluid. She went to the ER and they removed it and gave her no meds to taper off morphine. They said since it was directly into the pain area or in the spine (both maybe) that it wouldn't give her withdrawal. She went into severe withdrawal and was suicidal.
Avatar f tn m currantly on, stay off for six weeks, get the morphine pump and then whatever pain not handled by the two combined, then handle that with oral meds. From what my Doctor said the need for oral meds after that is minimal to none at all. To say that to someone who has been taking 8 mg of dilaudid like candy and ms contin 60 to 90 three times a day for starters, I was completely up for the idea!!! Last year I had the nerve stimulator put in mid May.
Avatar m tn t know what your physical problem is but my sister in law had a morphine pump for chronic neuropathy pain and it helped for a while but started leaking spinal fluid after about a year. The morphine as you use it more causes more pain, so it isn't ideal not that anything is.
Avatar m tn t controlling my back pain. My Dr suggested a morphine pump. Does anyone have any experience with this? Also, I am olny suppose to take the SUB 3 x d but I usually end up taking 4 so I will run out to soon. That is what was happening with my oxy, perc, hydo, run out to early & withdrawl. Is that what is going to happen? How long will it be before it will start after taking my last dose? Since I have only been on it less than 3 weeks will the WDs be really bad?
Avatar f tn My neurosurgeon said that a person can develop tolerance with long-term use of a pump because the amount of morphine would have to increase as the pain increases, just like it does with oral pain meds. Has anyone had this experience? What did you or your doctor do? Question 2 WITHDRAWAL My same neurosurgeon said that if the pump broke releasing the morphine inside, a person would go into severe witihdrawal. Has this happened to anyone? I would think that overdose would be more likely...
