s less potent than Morphine. It is also better for a taper. Oxycodone will allow you to drop to a 5mg tab instead of a 15mg tab with Morphine. I also feel that you'll get better pain control with the Oxycodone. This is just my opinion. Good luck with everything.

s a day 15 mg oxycodone. Before I try to withdraw and see how I feel without pain meds. I do have a question. Which has the worst withdrawal symptoms? Oxycodone or Morphine. I am having the same problem with my doctor. I was first on 120 5/235 percocets. I had to take 2 at a time ( my doctor always knew this ). I needed something for the night time, but she just put me on some muscle relaxers, flexeril, that helped me sleep..... a little, not much. Finally I had had enough. I went to her asking for one more dose of the percocet for night time. She instead put me on MS contin 15 mg 3x a day. I hated it. She also gave me 60 percocet 5/325 for breakthrough pain.

Hi Snobuny, Welcome to our Pain Management Forum. You've asked a good question and although it may seem straight forward there's a lot to be considered. Oxymorphone is seven times stronger then morphine while hydromorphone is five times stronger than morphine. They are in the same synthetic family of drugs. Although on "paper" Oxymorphone is more potent then Hydromorphone that doesn't necessarily mean that one is more effective then the other.

I dont see how it could show up different, since the active drug in both oxycodone and oxycontin is the same drug, oxycodone. Oxycontin has been formulated where part of the drug is released as soon as you take it and the rest is made do dissolve more slowly. Thats why your not supposed to chew or break the tablet. It's like taking morphine IR or morphine ER. They will both show up as morphine.

I want to quit c/t but after the whole oxy thing I went through, I am scared to death! My Dr. thinks the taper thing would be best, but sometimes I don't feel that me quitting is in his best interest. I have been reading this forum for the past 3 weeks and I can't get enough of it. Everyone is great! I know there is never a perfect time but I have soooo much going on between work and music and my 4 year old son.....I know just excuses! This just snuck up on me again!

why would a dr. change me from 5mg. of oxycodone to 30mg. morphine? i was put out of work cuz i could not funtion only weigh 113lbs now he has change me to 10mg of morphine i told him i am not comfortable taking morphine.

I am trying to get on a pain management. I can not take oxycodone with acetemetaphine due to head aches and the oxycodone pill form gives me the bad mood changes. What about the oxycodone capsule? I have to go to the doctors in a couple of hours and think I may ask her about the capsules but I'd like to hear some input.

Hi roadrunner: My understanding is that this study was done for the purpous of drug testing and why in some cases the drug came up negative in tests. Also I think that Morphine is a much stronger drug than Oxycodone. It is my opinion that Morphine controls pain on a much better level.....Thank's for your input. It's appreciated.

Picking a well-tolerated opiate is usually a 'hit or miss' process. The differences in tolerability come from several factors. For example, for some opiates, the administered medication is a 'prodrug' that must be converted to the active drug by the liver; an example is the conversion of codeine to morphine, which is more efficient in some people than in others. There is also wide variation in the degree of nausea produced by different medications in different people.

The percocet has i'll just say tylenol because i can't spell the other word for it. So maybe that combination works better for your pain then just morphine alone. Percocet isn't as strong as morphine so if it works better I would just take that because when the time comes to stop taking pain meds it will (or should be) be easier to get off of a weaker pain med.

can you be on faynantol (morphine patch) and mix with taking oxyroxy at the same time? what is oxyroxy?

I still don't like the methadone. I'm just really tired and feel icky and still in pain. I don't think I want to give the methadone a full 2 weeks and then stop and risk withdrawals for something that isn't helping the pain. Only the oxycodone for breakthrough is helping the pain, but I'm gonna run out too soon cuz the methadones isn't working at all. He wanted me to give it the two weeks but I just don't feel good about that.

My wife, who takes morphine sulfate ER and oxycodone IR for chronic pain. She does a urine test every month. For the first time in several years, 10+, her results showed a positive result for codeine, 107 ng/mL. I found an article that said a small amount of codeine may show up in patients taking high doses of morphine due to possible impurities in manufacturing. Is this correct? Has anyone else run in to this??

Oxycodone 5/325 doesn't have morphine in it, it has acetaminophen and oxycodone. Are you allergic to either one of those? I doubt if Propoxyphene is strong enough. It would be easier to suggest something, if we knew what you've already tried, list what you've tried.

Gabapentin is not a narcotic and is not a substitute for opiates like Oxycodone. Opiates are still the best pain control medications available. Gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica) are similar medications that modulate pain transmission in the nervous system, but gabapentin and pregabalin utilize a different chemical pathway than opiates.

I do agree that buprenorphine (Suboxone/Subutex) is a much better, safer choice for us hcv carriers as it's only a partial opioid agonist. Full agonists such as morphine, oxycodone, herion, & methadone cause certain immune functions to hibernate but heightens other immune functions (i.e. Reason for replication due to virus being threatened). I speak from experience an not just from the few clinical trials that have been done.

Just a suggestion, but have you tried Hyrdomorphone for BT pain? I've found that it works very well for BT pain associated with kidney-stones (and my kidney-stone pain is pretty horrible). In my experience, Oxymorphone made me drowsy (as everyone else has indicated), but Hydromorphone didn't make me drowsy at all. You'll have to find the right dose (2mg, 4mg or 8mg) but in my limited experience, it works very well for BT's.

I have the feeling I am in for pain meds for a good long time.. is the reason it is harder to get off of something like Belbuca because it is a 12-hour pain reliever vs shorter pain relief such as with oxycodone?

It is usual and customary to prescribe a long acting opiate such as MS Contin instead of just morphine and than prescribe another short acting opiate such as Oxycodone for break through pain. You are on a small dose of Morphine. Maybe a larger long acting dose would eb more beneficial. Or did I misunderstand and you are you on the long acting morphine? If not you may want to ask your physician about it. Another consideration is the Percocet.

I went through 48 weeks of treatmnt, my doctor prescrbed morphine and oxycodone, these were the least harmful, I also have cirhosis.

I am an Engineer that has worked in the industry for over 12 years. The last 6 years I have been on pain medications. First Tramadol and then vicodin, and now morphine and percocet. I continue to do a great job and produce fantastic products. My managers know about my chronic pain and are very accepting of the pain medications I take as they don't affect my job performance and they know that I am responsible with my meds.
