Avatar n tn I have heard that Suboxone could be used for pain in the elderly population to take the place of the many pain medications they may be on. such as morphine and Oxycodone Does anyone do this and how would I approach my Mother's Doctor about this. .
Avatar n tn I am desperate. My mother lives in Florida she takes Morphine as well as other pain meds. Her Morphine was stolen. She is on Medicaid and states away from me. She took 5 pills a day.
Avatar f tn I've been tapering down my medications (and made some great progress.) So far got off the Fentanyl 75 mcg., oxycodone 40 to 60 mg. every four hours. I had some pretty moderate withdrawals going off the Fentanyl and oxycodone. Nothing like cold turkey, but difficult nonetheless. I was switched over to morphine ER 30 mg. in the morning and 30 mg. at night. I already dropped to 15 mg. at night. I'm also supposed to take 15 mg.
Avatar f tn The doctors was saying he had dementia. We took him home and it took about 3 days for the affects of the morphine to wear off. And for about two years he didn't hallucinate, he just had short term memory loss. Then four weeks ago he fell. He broke his shoulder blade and a rib at home. We took him to the hospital and they gave him morphine and the hallucinations were back. I swore that the morphine was making him hallucinate but the doctors said it was dementia.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was put on fentanyl patch before they had generic ones. 2003 & Diluadid for break thru. I have liver disease non alch non reversible. So that combo of meds is best for me. My doctor did as appropriately moved me up to 50 mch then 75 & 100 strength patches as needed then back down so tolerance would work well. I was able to do some gardening & start working out at gym as year went by. Lost 118pds :-) We then moved to FL.
Avatar f tn I need help I take morphine for chronic back pain I have been desperately trying to find a balance to counteract the constipation effect of the medication, I have tried everything from mineral and olive oils to all kinds of laxatives to fiber intake and I either not have a bowel movement or I struggle with having one or it causes me to have sporadic trips to the bathroom.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed opiates since 2002. For severe neuropathy, 9 back surgery and then in 08 hubby and I were in a horrific car accident back in 08... I crushed my ankle, punctured a lung and broke 11 ribs...... I was on 100 mcg fentanyl patches for over 4 years ... they were working Any more, then I was put on 200 mgs morphine sulfate daily... ( 100 mgs every 12 hours). I did that for about 6 months and then had to become sole caregiver to my elderly father who had Alzheimer's...
Avatar m tn Long term use of opiates causes depression, so that wouldn't be a good solution anyway. Just saying. I did try imipramine. It helped prevent me from getting additional anxiety attacks, but didn't stop me from still being phobic to the things I already had become phobic about. But it stopped working, and I ended up on Paxil, which worked better, but also left me destroyed upon discontinuation. The side effects of imipramine are annoying, but it does show good results.
Avatar m tn htm# Geriatric Use The pharmacodynamic effects of neuraxial morphine in the elderly are more variable than in the younger population. Patients will vary widely in the effective initial dose, rate of development of tolerance and the frequency and magnitude of associated adverse effects as the dose is increased.
557111 tn?1219712047 butit is very addictive...most people on morphine are on it for pain and not for the high...of course exceptions to every rule...but it is a strong narcotic and this does not seem like a step forward in getting u clean from opiates...like avis asked...what is the pain and surgery related to? if it is lefe threatening cancer or something then choices may be different..
Avatar f tn Hi. 5'10" Gent, and brand spankin newbie to this site. i just turned 56 in April. In my journal August. 12, 2013, I recorded wgt. 247.5 lb, BP 157/101, severe depression & anxiety with heaart palpitations and mid-nightime panic attacks. Also using CPAP setting of 14cm for severe sleep apnea, and suffered almost daily migraines. Plus my triglicerides were, as my dr put it, "through the roof!
Avatar f tn I was recently perscribed morphine for my fibromyalgia and spurs on my spine. My question is does the morphine make you really nauseated and throw up. The last few days the side effects have slowed down, but I would still like to hear some suggestions from people in the forum.
Avatar m tn s care but my dog is having bladder stones and he is very much unconfortable all night I have to take him downstairs to pee and all the vet has told me is to wait for the results of urine test to beggin treatment meanwhile he gave him Rimadyl for the Hip pain and also some Phenobarbitol for anxiety, but he still cries all the time, I am desperate !

1052851 tn?1307741160 My doctor has me on Fiorinal C1/2 for migraines, and put me on Morphine for severe migraines and severe pain. I have often had to go to the hospital for the migraines, and they give me a shot of what I thought was Morphine in the butt, and after about 1/2 hr it was gone. This last experience, the Morphine did not work, and I ended up taking a bunch of Fiorinal instead. When I spoke to my local hospital, they said they dont give Morphine for migraines but Demerol?
11360622 tn?1417799519 and OMG I have just described the things my stepchildren are NOW doing for me. (except for the litter box adjustments, yea, pretty much!!) See treat your elderly cat like YOU would want to be treated when you get old and grumpy----- They have been there for you most of your life. Through the good and the bad, now it is time to be there for our beloved kits when they need a little help......and that is LIFE! Best of Luck to you and your lucky Senior Citizen!
647120 tn?1256601651 Today I decided to wean off of morphine and try Ultram for a few weeks. My PM is willing to work with me, so that is a very good thing. She said hydrocodone isn't good because of the Tylenol, like you said, and I am sure she would be willing to help me try low-dose oxycontin or something else if this doesn't work. Thanks for the suggestion. It is probably wishful thinking that I will find the pain level has subsided by now.
Avatar m tn He said I tested positive for morphine and negative for xanax. I take 1-2 ,25mg xanax a day-prescribed by him for anxiety. He referred me to pain management and that Dr prescribed me 15 mg Amrix and 50 mg Nucynta ER a day. He said the morphine is not from the Nucynta and that I must not be taking the Xanax or Nucynta that neither one of them showed up. I am not taking Morphine of any kind. I took a Xanax and a Nucynta 3 hours before this appointment.
1157044 tn?1318300124 t understand what their excuse is. Morphine has been around for 5,000 years. I think in China the elderly are encouraged to use opium to ease the aches and pains of growing old. Meanwhile, doctors are handing out fentynal like it's candy. Fentynal does not provide 100 times the relief of morphine. What lab rat told the researchers this cockamamie story? I know someone who was on fentynal for a long period and now her intestines have basically disintegrated.
Avatar f tn People that have been on opiates for a long time can ingest a dose that would kill someone who has never used the drug. Then if they stop for a while, their tolerance goes down. Morphine is a terrible trip, with nausea and discomfort and constipation. Not something to desire for recreation.
654183 tn?1225309036 I was one opiates for a very long time for illness and got hooked . Tihe only way for my was to get into the hospital and go through what is call detox . Avatar m tn I am going to go cold turkey on tuesday from 100mg morphine, been on them about 6 to 8 weeks. feeling sick when I dont take them and not able to take off time for detox and types for detox?
Avatar f tn Morphine must be okay for the liver because that's what they used when I was in the ICU following my liver transplant. Be VERY careful with morphine. I was on it for 7 days and went wacky with hallucinations of all kinds.
