Avatar n tn I have heard that Suboxone could be used for pain in the elderly population to take the place of the many pain medications they may be on. such as morphine and Oxycodone Does anyone do this and how would I approach my Mother's Doctor about this. .
Avatar n tn She just takes what ever is in the bottle. My father is the same. I can certainly understand how the patient just trusted that the medication and dosage was correct. After all they no longer even have the written prescription for comparison. This is a perfect example of why all ppl should know what the physician has prescribed and what they actually receive from the pharmacist. A patient, especially a terminal one does not always know the dosage they were to receive.
Avatar f tn I was switched over to morphine ER 30 mg. in the morning and 30 mg. at night. I already dropped to 15 mg. at night. I'm also supposed to take 15 mg. IR every 4 hours but I'm stretching that to 5 or 6 hours. I'm wondering since I haven't been on the morphine very long (2 weeks tops) what would happen if I just stopped taking them? Would I end up with withdrawals? I figure I'm past the point of withdrawal for the Fentanyl and oxycodone.
Avatar f tn We took him to the hospital and they gave him morphine and the hallucinations were back. I swore that the morphine was making him hallucinate but the doctors said it was dementia. We took him home and hospice kept upping the dose of the morphine. Finally he got so bad we couldn't take care of him at home. He went to the hospital and finally a nursing facility for 11 days. He died there after his body shutdown. He wouldn't eat or drink anything.
Avatar f tn He offered help me to sweep the floor/yard. Hanging and picking up the clothes. He also concentrated on the weather make sure he picked up the clothes before it rained. He'll miss if he slept all the day long! LOL. He liked sleep (usually longer hour than us). He said to me, when getting old all the bones shrink, so can feel the body aching. He said exercise is important. Even he was on the bed, he also moving his toes and fingers a lot.
Avatar n tn Go with lots and lots of fiber, at least the minimun daily requirement and this should help unless she is developing IBS. Try this and if it doesn't work have her see a GI dr.
Avatar f tn It is not uncommon for patients to develop an obstruction that requires a bowel resection and a temporary colostomy. This can be very dangerous in the elderly. Naltrexone will restore movement, but will cause immediate painful withdrawal symptoms. Fibre may make this worse. Drinking more fluids helps, but the answer is to have a hiatus nor lower the dose of opiates.
Avatar m tn t go now his body will force him to go eventually and it may be too late. By nipping things in the bud we can prevent any serious problems in the future. You should also get him on probiotics either a supplement or yogurt enriched with it. We are more apt to develop polyps after the age of 50 and that's why they suggest we start having colonoscopies at age 50.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed opiates since 2002. For severe neuropathy, 9 back surgery and then in 08 hubby and I were in a horrific car accident back in 08... I crushed my ankle, punctured a lung and broke 11 ribs...... I was on 100 mcg fentanyl patches for over 4 years ... they were working Any more, then I was put on 200 mgs morphine sulfate daily... ( 100 mgs every 12 hours). I did that for about 6 months and then had to become sole caregiver to my elderly father who had Alzheimer's...
Avatar n tn Are the blood blisters in the arms and legs of some elderly a vitamin or mineral deficiency? If so, what will help? This discussion is related to blood blisters.
Avatar m tn htm# Geriatric Use The pharmacodynamic effects of neuraxial morphine in the elderly are more variable than in the younger population. Patients will vary widely in the effective initial dose, rate of development of tolerance and the frequency and magnitude of associated adverse effects as the dose is increased.
Avatar f tn Well ladies im back in the hospital. . Not in ob triage but the er.. I posted earlier about not being able to breathe... good thing my husband took me to ER they r doing heart scan.. and looking for blood clots in my lungs..my oxygen is low so I got put on that and they xrayed my lungs. I'm morphine rite now... prayers plz my husband is very worried. I wany everything to be ok!
557111 tn?1219712047 She is feeling no withdrawals of course because she has the morphine in her system. So once she is off the percs, the doctor is weaning down her dosage of morphine. Perhaps you can cut down your percocets a little after you go on the morphine? If the morphine works for you, that is. Of course waiting until after surgery is probably wise. You won't know how bad you'll feel and what you'll need to take.
Avatar f tn I actually tolerate the Oxycontin well and it works for me. Does your mother take MS Contin? The nurse may have been trying to tell you that she needs something that is extended released. Best to run it by the doctor and discuss options as her dosage is a bit high as it is. Good Luck to you.
Avatar f tn Hi. 5'10" Gent, and brand spankin newbie to this site. i just turned 56 in April. In my journal August. 12, 2013, I recorded wgt. 247.5 lb, BP 157/101, severe depression & anxiety with heaart palpitations and mid-nightime panic attacks. Avatar n tn no, hydrocodone is vicodin. Morphine sulfate is the active ingredient in morphine. If you are worried about a possible reaction to the medication, I would speak to your local pharmacists. I'm not sure if hydrocodone and morphine are in the same family of drugs. I know vicodin and percocet are in a similar family (due to codine), but morphine is much different. refer to this website. http://www.rxlist.com/duramorph-drug.
Avatar n tn I am desperate. My mother lives in Florida she takes Morphine as well as other pain meds. Her Morphine was stolen. She is on Medicaid and states away from me. She took 5 pills a day.
161427 tn?1229911282 I would like to do a short experiment by taking my mother-in-law off Plavix for a few days while she is in her normal living conditions at the nursing home. However, I have not seen dementia listed in any materials related to Plavix, so no one caring for my mother-in-law takes this idea seriously. Does anyone have any experience with this situation? Could it be dangerous to take her off the Plavix for a few days? Are there any substitutes for Plavix that might work better?

Avatar f tn She has just seemed a bit unsettled since this peeing in the house started. I know she is elderly and that some things may seem inevitable. I was wondering if this could be a bladder infection or kidney trouble?
Avatar f tn so far I am taking 60 mg of morphine sulphate...one in the morning, one at night....I am surprised that its not stronger...I always thought that it was such a powerful drug...lol. Glad I am still functional, except for the PAIN part...yeah, there is that...
237039 tn?1264258057 I have been given Morphine in the hospitals during my heart attacks, and most recently was given Morphine quite frequently. I was told last April, the reason they were giving me Morphine at short intervals is because it "oxygenates" the heart. As long as I had the chest pains they were administering the Morphine at 30 minute intervals. I protested the frequent use, but was told it was for that reason I was being given that much.

Avatar n tn Hi Grace, She has the horrible burning in her back. She was diagnosed with "shingles" several years ago after a doctor noticed the blisters. Most of the time she doesn't break out, but just has the internal symptoms. They are almost always on her back. She has had several different episodes in the last year or so and they usually last for weeks. She was diagnosed this week from a blood test. She had a really severe case of shingles years and years ago. Thanks!
