Medications can easily interact and sometimes medications that have been fine for a long time all of a sudden aren't. A gerentologist probably is the best place to look for answers. When my mom was alive, we had a few kinks with her medications.

I do know that all to often things like this are not listed as side effects. The problem is that the doctors and or patients do not report them and so they too often get looked over as is the case here. I am sure there are many documented cases they just are not reported. I am not sure what the protocol is far as doctors reporting side effects but we as Pt's can call the pharmaceutical company and report effects. this will help many.

Im concerned about side effects from certain meds. that an elderly person was prescibed from a psychiatrist. If you maybe depressed and never took psychotropic drugs, can one side effect lead to screaming uncontrollably. Does your brain reject chemicals that the body doesn't understand.

I have heard that Suboxone could be used for pain in the elderly population to take the place of the many pain medications they may be on. such as morphine and Oxycodone Does anyone do this and how would I approach my Mother's Doctor about this. .

I started taking those before there were generics as well. Not ever any side effects like sleep walking, eating, putting things in cab instead of frig etc.. until they put me on generics. OMG! I was given Morphine to ease the pain after a difficult stenting procedure, and immediately developed body-covering hives, couldn't get my breath and the blood vessel used for the IV shut down. I actually just went to a funeral of a guy who did that a few months ago (xanax and methadone). In fact, in just the last 2 - 3 years in my area I have personaly known 3 people who have died from that, but there have been many many more. I am not sure how long darvocet stays active, but methadone is a LONG acting medicine and it may not matter if you take the doses 12 or even 24 hours apart. Stay safe!

I have degenerative joint disease/disk disease and the pain pump was an option along with the spinal cord stimulator but these were/are a last resort for me as I have been on many drugs to control the pain. She is suffering from severe myoclonus and seratonin toxicity and hospice wants to take her off Tramadol and replace it with something else.
