1286779 tn?1400012806 I think Jaybay just gave you great advice. Lots of elderly have different side effects than the more common ones. Medications can easily interact and sometimes medications that have been fine for a long time all of a sudden aren't. A gerentologist probably is the best place to look for answers. When my mom was alive, we had a few kinks with her medications.
653169 tn?1303446369 I do know that all to often things like this are not listed as side effects. The problem is that the doctors and or patients do not report them and so they too often get looked over as is the case here. I am sure there are many documented cases they just are not reported. I am not sure what the protocol is far as doctors reporting side effects but we as Pt's can call the pharmaceutical company and report effects. this will help many.
Avatar f tn My question is does the morphine make you really nauseated and throw up. The last few days the side effects have slowed down, but I would still like to hear some suggestions from people in the forum.
Avatar n tn too much morphine can result in death. I would advise you to call your pharmacist for information - they would be able to give you pharmaceutical information that would clarify this situation. I am sorry for you loss and the experience around it.
Avatar m tn htm# Geriatric Use The pharmacodynamic effects of neuraxial morphine in the elderly are more variable than in the younger population. Patients will vary widely in the effective initial dose, rate of development of tolerance and the frequency and magnitude of associated adverse effects as the dose is increased.
Avatar m tn Using Klonopin together with Elavil may add to dizziness, drowsiness, breathing problems, and other side effects ( in addition to the the individual numerous drug side effects). ---Source: Drug Interaction Checker Klonopin is in a class of drugs called Benzodiapezines. Benzodiapezines are contraindicated when suffering from depression, however, anxiety999, you would have to discuss it perhaps with the prescribing doctor.
Avatar n tn Hello, Fatigue and dry mouth and dyspepsia are frequent side effects of Vesicare but it is unlikely to cause any sore throat. Your sore throat can be due to some viral infection. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day and use over-the-counter throat lozenges. Salt water gargle is also a good way to relieve a sore throat. In addition, you can take anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and paracetamol (acetaminophen) after consulting your general physician.

Avatar m tn Im concerned about side effects from certain meds. that an elderly person was prescibed from a psychiatrist. If you maybe depressed and never took psychotropic drugs, can one side effect lead to screaming uncontrollably. Does your brain reject chemicals that the body doesn't understand.
Avatar n tn I have heard that Suboxone could be used for pain in the elderly population to take the place of the many pain medications they may be on. such as morphine and Oxycodone Does anyone do this and how would I approach my Mother's Doctor about this. .
Avatar n tn I started taking those before there were generics as well. Not ever any side effects like sleep walking, eating, putting things in cab instead of frig etc.. until they put me on generics. OMG! I had ALL side effects! Went back to brand & all went away. Major side effect from metformin! vs Glucophage. Anyhow, maybe something similar to these morphine's? I Called Roxanne Westward & they said (CS rep) not that she knew of but not sure. She had to ask..
237039 tn?1264258057 I was given Morphine to ease the pain after a difficult stenting procedure, and immediately developed body-covering hives, couldn't get my breath and the blood vessel used for the IV shut down. I was given a drug immediately to neutralize the condition. Since then, I'm given a bracelet when in the hospital to warn against it's use, and I wear a MedAlert necklace. You seem very alert to your symptoms, and I'd consider at least discussing the need to eliminate it's use.
Avatar n tn Through that feeding we found out my daughter has a horrible allergy to soy. Because I had bf her later and she took in morphine, she was unable to fully vomit the soy formula out and got very sick. She ended up jaundiced. The meds they give you to turn your bowels off really worked on me and I had to take another med to turn them back on. The was more painful than my decision to forgo pain meds for my daughter's sake. I had to be taken care of.
2030686 tn?1351688548 This morning I woke up covered in sweat and my shin bone hurts on the leg where I took the shot. The pain in my hips is returning but was gone when I woke up. Are these normal sx?
Avatar m tn I actually just went to a funeral of a guy who did that a few months ago (xanax and methadone). In fact, in just the last 2 - 3 years in my area I have personaly known 3 people who have died from that, but there have been many many more. I am not sure how long darvocet stays active, but methadone is a LONG acting medicine and it may not matter if you take the doses 12 or even 24 hours apart. Stay safe!
Avatar m tn I am sorry to hear about your previous reaction to Morphine. Are you experiencing any reaction or similar side effects with the long acting Morphine (Kadian)? As Dmoonchild said Kadian IS Morphine. There are several brand names for MS (Morphine Sulfate)..... but in the end they are all basically the same or similar chemical structure.
Avatar f tn I have degenerative joint disease/disk disease and the pain pump was an option along with the spinal cord stimulator but these were/are a last resort for me as I have been on many drugs to control the pain. Morphine has many side effects and maybe your doctor is seeing some side effects which could be 'an answer' that is not being mentioned here. I know the opioid's did not work for my pain. Nerve blocks helped but remember the nerve does grown back over time.
Avatar f tn She is suffering from severe myoclonus and seratonin toxicity and hospice wants to take her off Tramadol and replace it with something else. I can find no info at all on withdrawal and tapering protocol in elderly debilitated Alzheimer's patients. My mom can't speak or communicate and I am absolutely horrified at what she may experience. But the Tramadol side effects she is experiencing are life threatening.
Avatar f tn The elderly generally take smaller doses because the liver metabolizes drugs more in the elderly. And any antidepressant can cause increased anxiety particularly in the beginning, but even later, as they can be stimulating.
Avatar f tn Following surgery in 2005, Mum was given morphine after the surgeon had told the nurse there was no need for it. Reason being that Mum was completely out of it....she semmed on a bad trip. Nonetheless morphine was still administered for the next 24 hours, and I was then contacted by the hospital staff saying that Mum was in critical condition. It took 3 days for Mum to recover.....after heart attack, kidney failure lung failure..etc. since then Mum has never been the same......
608001 tn?1220385902 If you will talk to your PM Dr I think you will find you have plenty of other options as far as medications and the ones you can take with lesser side effects. All narcotics do have side effects but some are more tolerable than others.
Avatar m tn Our systems can be strange. You can take a medication - opiate or not - for years with no side effects. For reasons beyond my understanding our body builds antigens to this drug we may have taken for years - an allergic reaction begins. It can be in the form of a rash, hives or other SX (symptoms). If not recognized the allergic reaction can become severe. I don't know if that is what is happening to you. It's many of allergies initially presented.
Avatar m tn SUBOXONE--- HAS anyone that has been on Suboxone ever had the side effect of uncontrollable ITCHING? Scratch till your raw? Or any other side effects that make life more difficult? I was on Suboxone for two years, off for 3 months with opiates, and now on again for a month. Avatar f tn •Urinary retention and hesitancy can occur due to IT morphine interfering with the relaxation process in the bladder neck. In most cases this resolves with time and a temporary urinary catheter.
Avatar n tn s normal for something like this to happen because Morphine and Phenergan make the muscle twitch slightly as side-effects. Check with a heart and immune system doctor for a layout and idea tracking of the pain if you are too concerned. It works for 90%-100% of the time.
Avatar m tn The long term effects of Morphine sulfate on the overall health of the human body. Including heart health, gastro-intestinally, and other organs. I know someone who has been taking it for at least at least 10+years. I am getting worried about this person. A few years ago he had a very bad stomach problem, and they could never figure it out. I pretty much thought it had something to do with the morphine. Any advice? He needs it for his back.
