3112530 tn?1434032033 I have got to understand why after about 8 hours, the 'itches' kick in. It is extremely annoying. I take Benedil for the 'itches' and it seems to stop them sometimes. Can anyone tell me what causes the 'itches' and what is the best effect to counteract this? My morphine is only 15mg and I try t take it every 12 hours but when the "itches" kick in, (usually about 8 hours later), I take another and it seems to stop.
1286779 tn?1400012806 I think Jaybay just gave you great advice. Lots of elderly have different side effects than the more common ones. Medications can easily interact and sometimes medications that have been fine for a long time all of a sudden aren't. A gerentologist probably is the best place to look for answers. When my mom was alive, we had a few kinks with her medications.
653169 tn?1303446369 Has anyone else had the side effect of swelling with the use of ms contin/ morphine ER?? I don't mean like swelling in airway or face which could mean an allergy. I have noticed that when I take it I get swelling in my ankles. I know that urinary retention is a side effect for the morphine ER, but didn't notice dependent swelling noted. I went off of the drug for a while and had very little swelling, but as soon as I restart it notice swelling to start in my ankles.
Avatar f tn My question is does the morphine make you really nauseated and throw up. The last few days the side effects have slowed down, but I would still like to hear some suggestions from people in the forum.
Avatar n tn She just takes what ever is in the bottle. My father is the same. I can certainly understand how the patient just trusted that the medication and dosage was correct. After all they no longer even have the written prescription for comparison. This is a perfect example of why all ppl should know what the physician has prescribed and what they actually receive from the pharmacist. A patient, especially a terminal one does not always know the dosage they were to receive.
Avatar m tn htm# Geriatric Use The pharmacodynamic effects of neuraxial morphine in the elderly are more variable than in the younger population. Patients will vary widely in the effective initial dose, rate of development of tolerance and the frequency and magnitude of associated adverse effects as the dose is increased.
Avatar m tn Drug Interaction Checker Klonopin is in a class of drugs called Benzodiapezines. Benzodiapezines are contraindicated when suffering from depression, however, anxiety999, you would have to discuss it perhaps with the prescribing doctor. The elderly metabolise benzodiazepines more slowly than younger individuals and are also more sensitive to the effects of benzodiazepines, even at similar blood plasma levels.
Avatar n tn But i have noticed I am really tired all the time now and i developed a very sore throat - especailly in the morning. I think these are related to the increase of the tablet. Any other medications I can try?
Avatar m tn Im concerned about side effects from certain meds. that an elderly person was prescibed from a psychiatrist. If you maybe depressed and never took psychotropic drugs, can one side effect lead to screaming uncontrollably. Does your brain reject chemicals that the body doesn't understand.
Avatar n tn I have heard that Suboxone could be used for pain in the elderly population to take the place of the many pain medications they may be on. such as morphine and Oxycodone Does anyone do this and how would I approach my Mother's Doctor about this. .
Avatar f tn AND THATS ALOT BUT I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEM STAYING ON ME AND NOT LASTING THE WHOLE 72 HOURS AND I JUST GOT TIRED OF MESSING WITH THEM COMING OFF ALL THE TIME SO MY DOCTOR PUT ME ON MORPHINE 800MG. A DAY WHICH I GUESS WAS THE EQUIV. TO THE PAIN PATCHES AND SHE ALSO GAVE ME OXY IR 5 MG.
Avatar n tn I started taking those before there were generics as well. Not ever any side effects like sleep walking, eating, putting things in cab instead of frig etc.. until they put me on generics. OMG! I had ALL side effects! Went back to brand & all went away. Major side effect from metformin! vs Glucophage. Anyhow, maybe something similar to these morphine's? I Called Roxanne Westward & they said (CS rep) not that she knew of but not sure. She had to ask..
237039 tn?1264258057 I was given Morphine to ease the pain after a difficult stenting procedure, and immediately developed body-covering hives, couldn't get my breath and the blood vessel used for the IV shut down. I was given a drug immediately to neutralize the condition. Since then, I'm given a bracelet when in the hospital to warn against it's use, and I wear a MedAlert necklace. You seem very alert to your symptoms, and I'd consider at least discussing the need to eliminate it's use.
Avatar n tn Through that feeding we found out my daughter has a horrible allergy to soy. Because I had bf her later and she took in morphine, she was unable to fully vomit the soy formula out and got very sick. She ended up jaundiced. The meds they give you to turn your bowels off really worked on me and I had to take another med to turn them back on. The was more painful than my decision to forgo pain meds for my daughter's sake. I had to be taken care of.

2030686 tn?1351688548 This morning I woke up covered in sweat and my shin bone hurts on the leg where I took the shot. The pain in my hips is returning but was gone when I woke up. Are these normal sx?
Avatar f tn I know it is really humid here right now but when I sit in the house in the ac I get so cold. we always have it on 72 degrees. but the ac hurts my face so I try to come outside to warm up.
Avatar m tn I actually just went to a funeral of a guy who did that a few months ago (xanax and methadone). In fact, in just the last 2 - 3 years in my area I have personaly known 3 people who have died from that, but there have been many many more. I am not sure how long darvocet stays active, but methadone is a LONG acting medicine and it may not matter if you take the doses 12 or even 24 hours apart. Stay safe!
Avatar m tn I am sorry to hear about your previous reaction to Morphine. Are you experiencing any reaction or similar side effects with the long acting Morphine (Kadian)? As Dmoonchild said Kadian IS Morphine. There are several brand names for MS (Morphine Sulfate)..... but in the end they are all basically the same or similar chemical structure.
Avatar f tn I asked about switching to a different medication due to the side effects from the morphine. Doctor said i would have to go thru detox to even switch it out. Dont get me wrong i love the pain pump i just dont like the side effects from this one medication. I havent even tried any of the others that he could use in it that wouldnt have the side effects i am having now. This was my last resort to when the pain became so bad that i could no longer walk. With it i,m walking and doing more.
Avatar f tn t speak or communicate and I am absolutely horrified at what she may experience. But the Tramadol side effects she is experiencing are life threatening. Her hospice nurse and ARNP have the attitude that I'm overly worried and that this won't be a "big deal" and their mindset is making me doubly anxious as they don't seem knowledgeable at all about this. My mom doesn't have another doctor. Any advice anyone could give me would be hugely appreciated.
161427 tn?1229911282 I would like to do a short experiment by taking my mother-in-law off Plavix for a few days while she is in her normal living conditions at the nursing home. However, I have not seen dementia listed in any materials related to Plavix, so no one caring for my mother-in-law takes this idea seriously. Does anyone have any experience with this situation? Could it be dangerous to take her off the Plavix for a few days? Are there any substitutes for Plavix that might work better?
Avatar f tn The elderly generally take smaller doses because the liver metabolizes drugs more in the elderly. And any antidepressant can cause increased anxiety particularly in the beginning, but even later, as they can be stimulating.
Avatar f tn We took him to the hospital and they gave him morphine and the hallucinations were back. I swore that the morphine was making him hallucinate but the doctors said it was dementia. We took him home and hospice kept upping the dose of the morphine. Finally he got so bad we couldn't take care of him at home. He went to the hospital and finally a nursing facility for 11 days. He died there after his body shutdown. He wouldn't eat or drink anything.
Avatar m tn It appears that I should ask my doctor to take me back down to the 10 mg at which point I was not having a rash. However, the reason for increasing the morphine to 30 mg was to get more relief from my chronic pain. The increased dosage did relieve the pain but the rash and itching is worse than the pain. Perhaps I have answered my own question but would one half of a 30mg pill be the equivalent of a 15 mg pill?
