my mother has extreme leg cramps at nights this started 5 years ago she could not sleep at nights because of the pain.she took all kinds of pain killers then took mirapex nothing would help for years. 4 years ago because of the pain and the sleeplesness she fell on her back and broke her neck she was in a halo for 3 months still the leg pains continued. the next year she fell again and was giadnosed with progressive supra nuclear palsy she is now in a nursing home.

I was on mirapex for 3 years, my miracle drug, for my RLS during that period I develop a gambling addiction. I find out that this is a side of the mirapex.For the sake of my self and the loss od my my family I choose to get off of it.I It took me 2 trys to get off of them and have suceeded. I no long have the urge to gamble. ,Now I am on simumet for my RLS and it does not work like the mirapex , I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go to sleep.

Thank you for your feedback. We would also love it if doctors would give out MedHelp's URL to their patients to help track symptoms. Then their patients could just click Email This on their trackers and send it to their doctors for review. We could easily add Restless Legs as a symptom and Mirapex as a treatment to the Sleep Tracker. Would that work for you?

I loose a lot of sleep. I get in day and night. My arms even jerk and have that restless feeling. Mirapex is taken twice a day and don't help. No drs will address it and I'm miserable . Is this a lack of a vitamin or mineral. Do I ever get rid of them?

yes it did work for me if its not working then I would go see your for something prescription for rls they have a few things now

I get leg cramps that last for more than ten minutes, as well as severe cramps in my armpit/breast region on both sides, that are almost bad enough to cry. I try to stretch/rub the sore areas but it doesn't seem to help. I take a daily multivitamin and drink plenty of water. Anyone have any ideas? I'm desperate.

I have severe Restless leg Syndrome. I have been on Mirapex for about 6 years now, and never had a problem. I am unemployed now, and do not have any health insurance. My doctor has been great to give me samples, however; they are out of them right now. My doctor tried giving me clonazepam 1 mg 2 nights ago, I walked the floors and tossed and turned all night. I called my doctor, and she said to increase my clonazepam to 2mg before bed.

Hi Byron, I too have serious Restless Leg Syndrome...I don't know about the Monavie but what I take and is wonderful is Mirapex. I take it 3 times a day and have no restless legs unless I skip a dose or run out and then the RLS returns. I hope this has helped.

Sinemet, Mirapex, Requip and Neurontin. All helped for a while but needed increasing doses and the side effects and augmentation became intolerable. I now use a TENS Unit before bedtime, and it has done as well for me as the meds after their initial usefulness waned. I was on so many meds that made me nauseous I wasn't sure which caused what. But I puked a lot for a while. Somehow I guess I became more tolerant because it did nearly stop. Maybe your body will adjust too.

Because of the Mirapex and Gabapentin I can sleep at all. I still get uncomfortable though. It is pain really, except in my left arm anyway. But, the uncomfortablnes and pain in left arm is toerable. I just need more sleep than i am getting.

Have any of you ever had issues falling asleep while on the mirapex? I find that once I do get to sleep it helps me stay asleep better. But for some reason the mirapex gives me anxiety and makes it harder for me to get to sleep. I spend up to 2 hours just trying to fall asleep. I even tried adding over the counter sleeping pills with it but still find it difficult to get to sleep.

Thank you Worried for the detailed information. I had no idea those extra receptor sites never went away!! I guess that's why the experts say that once you are an addict, you always will be. =( I understand the dangers of an addict messing around with dopamine. I just have such a tough time with the RLS. If it was only for four or five days, I could hang in there, but mine tends to last more like 14 or 15 days.

For the past month I have been experiencing muscle twitches in my calves. They come and go, but I do experience them many hours a day, whether I am sitting or standing or laying down. I also experience muscle stiffness and cramping in my right calf and, as of today, also in my left leg and calf. I have been told by my primary care doctor and my neurologist that I have benign fasciculations and not ALS based on bloodwork, physical exams and symptoms.

Thanks for your comment on Mirapex. Unfortunately for me, it is another drug that increases the dopamine and is also used for Parkinson's disease. It seems that all the drugs in that family of medications, I cannot take. Keep us informed.

ask your Dr about the combo of Mirapex .25m and Gabapentin 200m per nite. works pretty well for me but sems nothing is a permanent fix. been thru dopamine treatment, clonapin, requip, all either worked for a while but w/ side effects, or didn't work at all.

Hey there, It's 11:30 pm, and I was asleep for an hour and woke up with RLS. I tossed around for 20 minutes and finally couln't take it any more. So I'm up with all my lights on, and took another sleeping pill. It will kick in soon, I hope. I have been having a rough last few days, feeling extremely tired, too tired to type. I have crohn's and it is making me feel real sore and restless as well. I haven't yet seen a doctor for an update evaluation yet...

Hi I am wondering if maybe it could be ticks, I had exactly the same sort of thing happen when I was 10 ( I'm now 25) and after testing eeg, which was found to be abnormal I was put on tegretol and they went away allong with a fair host of other issues. See your doctor and get thier advice. All the best David.

For the past year I have been dx with this and on meds for it, but I really feel that it has not help out much and at times I find myself or I should say that my wife has had the hard part of this when we sleep by me kicking her or at times I will jump up in a spassem (sp brain fog lol) where my arms and legs go any wear they please and I have put bruses on her from this ( but not that I mean to do this but dose happen) and I have woken up from some of them as I feel like I just jump up a foot

PS... The ringing in my ears is driving me crazy. Never stops. As for the RLS or leg jerking, have your Iron levels checked. I was diagnosed with Periodic Limb Movement Syndrome (which is cousin to RLS) and was given Mirapex for it. I went to see my Pulmonologist, of all people, and he tested my Iron levels and they were really low. He told me to stop taking the Mirapex and take Iron instead. Now, everytime my legs start bothering me, I know my Iron is low.
