Avatar n tn I stopped coreg 12.50 mg daily abruptly and substituted Metoprolol succinate er 50 mg daily. At first I was concerned about stopping the coreg abruptly and substituting Metoprolol once daily in AM. Now I am concerned that the Metotrolol works in the AM but in the PM, the upper BP number is up around 145-160 and the lower is in the 60s and fluctuates up to the mid 80s. I have been on this new med only 3 days.
Avatar f tn I am on 200 MG of Metoprolol Succ er! The Pharmacist at CVS gave this to me instead of the Toprol-xl my Doctor had prescribed. I think the dosage is too big and I have had more trouble with the pill than without. I took myself off it for a while, to get some sleep and to stop the headaches. The CVS Pharmacist gave it to me AFTER the drug was recalled. It is the big pills that they are talking about.
1475202 tn?1536274577 I take propranolol 80 mg er once daily. Objective is to maintain a resting heart rate of 50-60 bpm since I have grade three varices caused from portal hypertension a symptom of stage C decompensated cirrhosis. Since beginning this new medications (taken before bed) I wake up many morning with my heart pounding really hard then after about an half hour it returns to normal. Could this be a side effect of the medication or something else? Thanks for any information.
Avatar f tn Hey, Just wondering how others got off metoprolol er? I was on 50mg for about 6 months, then was on 25mg for 6 months and my doc wants me to come off of it completely as I have had a reduction of PVC episodes over the months. Frankly, I'm looking forward to getting off of it as well, but have concerns. Anyways, what did you do to get off of Metoprolol ER?
Avatar m tn I have suffered with taking diltiazem(180 mg ER) AND metoprolol (50 mg ER) for atril fibrillation for the past two and a half years. The side effects have been debilitating.. Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu.
Avatar m tn I particularly notice difficulty with speaking, searching for simple words, or names, some tiredness. Also, since beginning Metoprolol Tart, 50 mg.(probably 4 years ago) taken 2 times daily, I have had three episodes of severe nausea with vomiting coming on suddenly. When I went to ER my bp was in the area of 190/105. Most recent episode in mid-March. Fine the next day except for mild tiredness. ER doctors have diagnosed as either an anxiety attack, or most recently, Vertigo. B.P.
Avatar m tn I was taking Metoprolol 100 mg. twice daily but was getting too tired from this so my cardiologist changed it to 50 mg. 4 times a day. I'm still getting the same dose but it is spread out so I'm not having as many side effects from it. It is more of a pain having to take it this way but it does work better for me. So I think there are different ways of taking it but check with your cardiologist first.
Avatar n tn I think the anxiety could have been due to health anxiety related to a spinal headache or a reaction to a z-pack, which I had never used before. On my second visit to the ER, they prescribed 50 mg of metoprolol tartrate twice per day. Now my doctor wants me to take an SSRI to help the anxiety. I tried 50 mg of Zoloft but had severe nausea and anxiety the first day and stopped it. Now my doctor has prescribed 10 mg.
1717715 tn?1318300895 Hey guys, I take Metoprolol SUCC ER 50 mg once a day for what they THINK is mostly just inappropriate sinus tachycardia and a bit of anxiety that probably grew from that. At normal, my hair was probably the richest and thickest you would have ever seen but now, its getting oily much quicker, and has gotten SEVERELY more thin and light. I'm only 22 and good hair genes runs in my family, its not like im genetically pre-disposed to hair loss. Does anyone think it can be the medication?
Avatar m tn Anyway, my cardiologist put me again on the Propranolol and increase my dose to 40 mg day. I was on 50 mg day of Metoprolol. I did 2 days on 40 mg of Propranolol and I had the same side-effects than on the metoprolol... and I guess it's not side-effects but anxiety symptoms that I experience.
Avatar n tn I've been on Metoprolol for almost 3 weeks now. I was on 50 mg/day and told to take the pill at night. The second night on it I got sick to my stomach, passed out in the bathroom, hit my head on the tub and ended up in the ER with 8 stitches. I guess for some people its mild, but it hit me pretty hard. I was reduced to 25 mg/day but I'm still having short runs of SVT. On the 25 mg/day at firsst I was sleepy during the day with headaches that lasted all day.
Avatar n tn I had a baby boy in December 2013 while actively taking 50 mg of metoprolol er succinate for 3 years prior to the pregnancy for a tachycardia heart rate, I was bumped up to 75 mg during the pregnancy... Happy to report...
Avatar f tn I was also having a lot of anxiety and panic attacks at that time. I was prescribed metoprolol 25 mg. My blood pressure is usually normal and after taking the medicine it had been getting a little too low so I was told to take only half. My bp is still getting down to 92/60 at times and is making me feel tired and lightheaded. Has anyone experienced this? I am worried about my bp getting even lower and making me pass out. The nurse at my cardiologist office told me not to skip my dose.
Avatar m tn I would think the time-response you describe is very unusual, especially for your relatively low dose of Metoprolol. I have taken as much as 100 mg twice a day, time approximate, morning and night, about 12 hours apart. I have also changed to 50 mg twice a day, just started that lower dose this past Sunday. I take it to lower my HR, and it helps, but I never see anything lower than 70 BPM. It could be lower when I'm asleep, but I have no way of knowing as I'm not on a recording monitor.
214864 tn?1229718839 I'd be only too happy to start a forum of people who'd actually like to persue going after the manufacturer , KV Pharmaceuticals, for not taking responsibility that their metoprolol succinate ER 50 MG is a dangerous drub. Please contact me on on my email: ***@****.
Avatar f tn The docs assure me that even if the heart rate gets really high, that's normal for sex. But still am very aware of it. I've cut down my dose of Metoprolol to about 37.5-50 mg a day. Still having some libido issues, but planning on trying the Cialis later this week for the first time. So if I switch off Metoprolol onto Diltiazem, will it control my tachycardia but also enable me (with the Cialis) to enjoy a sex life again? Has anyone else done this? Thanks for any input.
876405 tn?1243511886 I was taking metoprolol 25 mg twice a day and then my dr discontinued it because I found out that I was pregnant. Now I am taking something else for the blood pressure that is safe to take in pregnancy. It just *****, because suddenly they came out of nowhere and I am trying to find a reason for them..they are literally driving me insane- it's all I think about..I don't know if they are going to kill me or not. Tomorrow I go to the cardiologist and they'll do an echo...
Avatar m tn But, the PVCs kept coming. So, yesterday, he switched me to 400mg of Metropolol Succinate ER a day and referred me to a guy that specializes in electrical problems of the heart. He said this was due to the possibility of doing an ablation on me. I have to say that the PVCs do cause me great distress but the thought of ablating my heart does not excite me. I am also not sure if I should continue with beta blockers either.
Avatar n tn 24 he decreased it to 50mg at noon 50 mg at midnight. Sept. 26 he told me to decrease it to 50 mg at noon. So I went from 200 mg to 50 mg in 8 days! I am 36 & was placed on this med about 6 years ago for high blood pressue and palpitations. I've read some bad things about people going off beta-blockers and am WORRIED. Does this sound safe to you?
Avatar n tn (100 at noon 50 at midnight) A week later I was still having slow heart rate and he reduced from 150 to 100.(50 mg at noon 50 mg at midnight) 3 days later I went back because of slow heart rate and he cut it down to 25 mg at noon and 25 mg at midnight. I've read that it is dangerous going off of Metoprolol and was wondering if I should be worried.
612551 tn?1450025775 Following are my observations on day two of substituting Atenolol 25 mg twice a day for Metoprolol 25 mg twice a day.. both are regular, for Metoprolol it is called Tartrate, I think the Atenolol comes in only one normally longer lasting form. Today in the early afternoon, following my third 25 mg dose of Atenolol at about 9 AM, I noticed some dizziness when I rose from a time sitting.
Avatar f tn I just discovered this after 3 months of total misery, 7 different doctors, multiple tests, 1 hospitalization, 16 pound weight loss, almost lost my job, etc., etc., etc.. I want to know if this will have permanent effects on my body and heart and will I ever be the same again. I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now.
Avatar f tn hi i was on metatoprol er 50 mg 2 x a day and i was taken off just resently my cardio told me you can go off them at anytime under my supervisiion that he slowly took me off mine but everybodys situation is different though and iwas takeing them for tach aswell butthey didnt like me lol hope it helps
Avatar f tn So, for rate control, I was running as high as 130 bpm at rest without Metoprolol, and with 100 mg I run as low as mid 70s when really at rest and around 90 if just walking around the house. It also lowers my normal blood pressure, but not too much..guess I'm usually around 120/70. Hope I didn't wander off topic, bottom line of this post, my experience with Metoprolol at 100 mg or less a day is the side effects are not troubling.
471161 tn?1317194550 I have been taking Metoprolol er 50 mg and hydrochlorot 25 mg for my blood pressure for the past 7 months. Right now I have a swollen lymph node in my neck that has been treated twice with antibiotics and is still there. I also have a bruise on my leg that keeps coming back with a knot inside it. Plus I feel I have fluid or swelling in by chest area. I have been to the doctor but nothing helps. Please tell me if this is the blood pressure medicine I am taking or maybe something else.
Avatar n tn I've had 2 complete cardio tests in the last 2 1/2 years and they only showed some arrhytmias. Over the last week, I cut my dosage in half, from 50 to 25 mg daily. My resting heart rate went from 55-60 BPM to 68-72 BPM. Blood pressure went up slightly and I feel better. I spoke with my cardio again and told him what I was doing. He said I could just discontinue the med completely if I wanted to, but was still recommending a pacemaker, even though my heart appears to be structurally sound.
Avatar f tn Day two with all the illness I called my Dr and he told me to take half 50 mg of the Metoprolol XL and drop the Tukumera for now. I did that felt good enough to shower in the morning, but then day 3 in the evening got really sick, scared, panicked. Oh yeah forgot to mention anxiety which I have never had I have had since I went off of Metoprolol XL. I called Dr thinking I should probably go to ER. Bp went to the highest of 168 over 93. After I called the Dr it went down.
