214864 tn?1229715239 d actually like to persue going after the manufacturer , KV Pharmaceuticals, for not taking responsibility that their metoprolol succinate ER 50 MG is a dangerous drub. Please contact me on on my email: ***@****.
Avatar m tn My docror reduced my Diovan to 40 mg and gave me Metoprolol Succinate 25 mg because he said my resting heart rate was in the upper 80's. I started having strange feelings while sleeping, like my heart or stomach was shivering and I used to wake up at night after a few hours of sleep because of this feeling. I was still feeling dizzy and I wanted to stop the Diovan or the Metoprolol Succinate. My cardiologist said I should continue the Metoprolol succ and I can stop the Diovan.
Avatar n tn If he was prescribed 100 mg Toprol XL once/day it should be the same as taking metoprolol tartrate 50 mg 2/day. We are not physicians nor pharmacists and you should consult one or both about drug substitutions and dosage equivalents.
Avatar f tn In an attempt to avoid an ablation for SVTs & going to the Emergency Department lately once a month to get converted with IV medication, (I'm older with co-morbidities, there's a pandemic, & really, my ElectroPhysiologist doesn't have a lot of experience doing ablations), my EP & I are trying different medications. I'm increasing metoprolol succinate (the extended release one) from 25 mg to 37.5 mg.
Avatar m tn Yes, Metoprolol Succinate is the timed release. It is also way more expensive than Metoprolol Tartrate. I switched long ago to the latter and saved a lot of money. A dose costs literally pennies. You have to remember to take it twice a day though. I take it at "5 and 5"; at rising, and at dinner, and it's easy to remember. Metoprolol has the same bradycardia effect as Atenolol, so that has to be watched.
Avatar m tn But I am an anxious person and was prescribed beta blocker(Metoprolol ER 50mg and Amlong which was changed to 25mg metoprolol ER and Losartan 25mg after 4 years). Yes I dont have any heart problems and nothing in my family and also not diabetic. My age is 40. Still taking metoprolol only and will go for a review soon and would sort things out. I am happy with metoprolol 50mg ER to Bisoprolol 5mg...
Avatar n tn Thye are weight for weigh the same, so if you take 100mg of Metoprolol Succinate once a day, you could quarter a 100mg tablet of Metoprolol Tartrate and just remember to take it four times a day. Of course you'd have a period of time during your sleep cycle where the dose level might decline a bit. I switched to Metoprolol Tartrate years ago when my insurance company raise Toprol to a high tier co-pay. The other is literally pennies by comparison.
Avatar m tn Since my blood pressure was not remaining normal quite often during last 18 months in spite of the medication, the medicine for hypertension has now been changed: Olmesartan 40 mg, Metoprolol Succinate 12.5 mg, Chlorthalidone 6.25 mg & Amlodipine 2.5 mg. I am to continue Eltroxin & Zyloric. Seeking your valuable suggestion.
Avatar f tn 5 year ago and had very short period (2 days) of AF post-surgery. I have been taking Metoprolol Succinate 47.5mg/day for 8 months as long term essential medication for HCM. My daily pulse is around 45-55 bpm and occasionally feel lightheadedness. I recently had one FAINT when I rested at a sofa. It lasted for about 5 seconds. My pulse was 50 immediately after recovery.
Avatar f tn I have to agree with tom_h. I have taken Metoprolol Succinate (Toprol XL) for many years. I went as high as 150 mg, but it never had really any effect on my BP - that is why it was originally prescribed for me and I dropped it because it was useless for that purpose. Now I am taken it again (50 mg) for Pac's/Pvc's and it reduces the number I have each day.
Avatar f tn I am on 200 MG of Metoprolol Succ er! The Pharmacist at CVS gave this to me instead of the Toprol-xl my Doctor had prescribed. I think the dosage is too big and I have had more trouble with the pill than without. I took myself off it for a while, to get some sleep and to stop the headaches. The CVS Pharmacist gave it to me AFTER the drug was recalled. It is the big pills that they are talking about.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is available in two forms, fast acting Metoprolol Tartrate (Lopressor), and the time release Metoprolol Succinate (Toprol XL). I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat.
443862 tn?1237999439 After hearing of the FDA findings on Metoprolol Succinate ER, it could be this med causing your problems........Call your doctor....
Avatar f tn Did you ever combine the 2? Celexa and metoprolol er succinate? Trying to see if I should do it or not... there's a lot of "negative" stuff about it on the net.
Avatar n tn I started on 25mg Metoprolol succinate about 35 days ago. I have put on some weight but for nearly 3 weeks have not worked out much. The first week I was just getting used to it. I was winded from swimming 1/6 my usual distance! Then for two weeks I was on business travel and eating, not working out. Then last week I swam 12 miles in six workouts. And now this week I already swam 6 miles. I feel I started to get more room in my jeans. The dose you take is half of mine.
Avatar f tn I was on Toprol XL 45 mg for 3 years and then on the generic Metoprolol Succinate for another 2. The cardiologist told me to stop it, I had shortness of breath and terrible night sweats. I cut them in half and did that for 10 days, then I took those half pills every other day for 10 more days and then I stopped. No ill effects.
612551 tn?1450022175 I have been taking a beta blocker, 50 mg Metoprolol ER (Extended/Slow Release), for several years but have with my cardiologist approval today refilled my BB prescription with Metoprolol Tartrate (normal release) to be taken at 25 mg twice a day (every 12 hours). My reason is driven mainly by the fact the Tartrate is about 1/6th the cost of the Suc (ER).
Avatar n tn There are two type of Metoprolol, Tartrate and Succinate. With Metoprolol Tartrate, you take it twice a day, usually 12 hours apart. Maximum plasma levels occur about an hour after taking in and it begins to be metabolized. Typically, the dose is reduced 50% every 4 to 5 hours. This is why it's taken twice a day. Metoprolol Succinate is the time release version. It's taken once a day and is slowly metabolized throughout a 24 hr. period.
941118 tn?1312281926 And btw, metoprolol succinate is Toprol, which is extended release - and metoprolol tartrate is Lopressor, which is the normal release version.
12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?
Avatar m tn I have suffered with taking diltiazem(180 mg ER) AND metoprolol (50 mg ER) for atril fibrillation for the past two and a half years. The side effects have been debilitating.. Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu.
Avatar m tn In a word "Yes". The bigger question is: can you remember to take it twice a day...at the proper time? If so, then you can ask your doctor for the chance to try it.
1933354 tn?1323362834 Keep in mind that when you switched from Toprolol ER (Metoprolol Succinate) to Lopressor (Metoprolol Tartrate), you lost the timed released advantage. If you were taking 25mg. pills of each medication, you are loosing a great deal of the latter drug's effectiveness as the day wears on. The half life of Metoprolol Tartrate is only 3-7 hours. So you must take it at least twice a day for it to be effective the entire 24 hour period. Also 25mg., once a day is a a very small dose.
Avatar f tn See the posted FDA warning on generic Generic Toprol XL, or Metoprolol Succinate ER. Consumers have experienced increased blood pressure, increased heart rate and ectopic beats, as well as side effects such as nausea, dizziness and headaches from this generic. Call your prescribing doctor...
Avatar f tn I just discovered this after 3 months of total misery, 7 different doctors, multiple tests, 1 hospitalization, 16 pound weight loss, almost lost my job, etc., etc., etc.. I want to know if this will have permanent effects on my body and heart and will I ever be the same again. I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now.
