Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg

443862 tn?1238003039 I have been taking metoprolol succinate for quite a time. at first I was taking 25 mg then after 5 months it was increased to 50 mg and a few weeks ago i was taking 75 mg. I don't why but this medicine is causing my airways to narrow because I don't have any pulmonary disease my lungs are totally find expect that a few months ago my pulmonologist thought I had COPD for my PFT but thankfully I don't...which make me think that it maybe cause of the Metropolol...
Avatar m tn I did some research about the dose equivalency and what I find out is that 50 mg of Atenolol = 100 mg of Metoprolol... but I still wonder if it's true for everyone or not? My Cardilogist ask me to split my dose and take it every 12 hours... With the Metoprolol, even if most of the Cardio Doc suggest that it have to be take every 12 hours, I always felt that the effect of the Metoprolol is lasting around 4 hours maximum so that's why I dose it 4 times a day...
Avatar n tn About a month ago my doctors put me on Metoprolol Succinate 25mg 2x daily and sent me to a cardiologist who upped my metoprolol to 50 mg 2x daily. In the last 2 weeks since being on the 50 mg dose my feet have started to hurt and burn mostly from the balls of me feet to my toes but last few days the pain and burning has slowly creeped up into my lower calf muscles and ankles.
Avatar f tn My husband takes metoprolol tartrate. He only has one month of medication left and refuses to go back to the Dr. How can I wean him off of the drug so he doesn't have a heart attack or something?
Avatar n tn I was struggling with side effects from Cardiezem and asked to have my medicine changed, so I was put on 50 mg Metroprolol Tartrate per day, but began to suffer some nasty side effects--headaches, dizziness, nausea, abdominal cramps, lucid dreams, runny nose, and my heart rate dropped from 75-85 bpm to 45 to 55 bpm's depending on what I was doing. When I would sleep it dropped into the low 40's, and I couldn't focus at work, couldn't exercise.

Avatar n tn I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
Avatar n tn I had a baby boy in December 2013 while actively taking 50 mg of metoprolol er succinate for 3 years prior to the pregnancy for a tachycardia heart rate, I was bumped up to 75 mg during the pregnancy... Happy to report...
Avatar f tn I was also having a lot of anxiety and panic attacks at that time. I was prescribed metoprolol 25 mg. My blood pressure is usually normal and after taking the medicine it had been getting a little too low so I was told to take only half. My bp is still getting down to 92/60 at times and is making me feel tired and lightheaded. Has anyone experienced this? I am worried about my bp getting even lower and making me pass out. The nurse at my cardiologist office told me not to skip my dose.
Avatar n tn prescribed a moderate does of metoprolol tartrate 50 mg twice per day, as time went by I needed less and less and told the doctor that my heart rate was in the 50's, he said I could take less if I felt bad....and I did, reduced to 25 mg 2x day. This pattern continued and eventually I was taking part of a 25 mg pill 2 times per day and most recently...just took it once per day or here and there....I have stopped taking it for about 8 days now. I began to see how my body would react without it.
Avatar m tn My bp had always been slightly high and I was never put on anything. Well now I've taken metoprolol 25mg tartrate twice a day for 2 days. My heart rate came down to 60 last night usually its never lower than 70. My bp has decreased slightly and it alleviated the pressure in my head and neck and I thought I was going to be able to have a good nights rest. But no now I am feeling almost every heart beat in my chest. It's keeping me up.
Avatar m tn The cardiologist put me on first 100mg a day, and then 200mg a day of Metropolol Tartrate, thinking that it would help the issue. But, the PVCs kept coming. So, yesterday, he switched me to 400mg of Metropolol Succinate ER a day and referred me to a guy that specializes in electrical problems of the heart. He said this was due to the possibility of doing an ablation on me. I have to say that the PVCs do cause me great distress but the thought of ablating my heart does not excite me.
Avatar n tn (100 at noon 50 at midnight) A week later I was still having slow heart rate and he reduced from 150 to 100.(50 mg at noon 50 mg at midnight) 3 days later I went back because of slow heart rate and he cut it down to 25 mg at noon and 25 mg at midnight. I've read that it is dangerous going off of Metoprolol and was wondering if I should be worried.
612551 tn?1450025775 Following are my observations on day two of substituting Atenolol 25 mg twice a day for Metoprolol 25 mg twice a day.. both are regular, for Metoprolol it is called Tartrate, I think the Atenolol comes in only one normally longer lasting form. Today in the early afternoon, following my third 25 mg dose of Atenolol at about 9 AM, I noticed some dizziness when I rose from a time sitting.
Avatar f tn The problem with Metoprolol Tartrate is the deep roller coaster effect due to the relative short half life. You could move your dose time closer together, but that will leave you with an even deeper null period than you're experiencing now. If you take two 25's, you could halve them and take them every 6 hours. You could quarter them and take them every 3 hours. But this plan would most likely have you forgetting doses.
Avatar f tn So, for rate control, I was running as high as 130 bpm at rest without Metoprolol, and with 100 mg I run as low as mid 70s when really at rest and around 90 if just walking around the house. It also lowers my normal blood pressure, but not too much..guess I'm usually around 120/70. Hope I didn't wander off topic, bottom line of this post, my experience with Metoprolol at 100 mg or less a day is the side effects are not troubling.
Avatar m tn Yes, Metoprolol Succinate is the timed release. It is also way more expensive than Metoprolol Tartrate. I switched long ago to the latter and saved a lot of money. A dose costs literally pennies. You have to remember to take it twice a day though. I take it at "5 and 5"; at rising, and at dinner, and it's easy to remember. Metoprolol has the same bradycardia effect as Atenolol, so that has to be watched.
Avatar n tn If he was prescribed 100 mg Toprol XL once/day it should be the same as taking metoprolol tartrate 50 mg 2/day. We are not physicians nor pharmacists and you should consult one or both about drug substitutions and dosage equivalents.
Avatar n tn My (74 year old) father currently is taking these medications together Pravastatin Sodium 80mg, Zetia 10 mg, Isosorbide Mnonitrate 30 mg, Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg, Plavix 75 mg, Amlodipine Besylate 10 mg, Aspirin (nsaid) 81 mg low dose The doctor told him his liver count is up 66 and the lower range is 64. Would any of these drugs or combination of these drugs make liver count increase?

Avatar n tn There are two type of Metoprolol, Tartrate and Succinate. With Metoprolol Tartrate, you take it twice a day, usually 12 hours apart. Maximum plasma levels occur about an hour after taking in and it begins to be metabolized. Typically, the dose is reduced 50% every 4 to 5 hours. This is why it's taken twice a day. Metoprolol Succinate is the time release version. It's taken once a day and is slowly metabolized throughout a 24 hr. period.
1529455 tn?1291876214 I get headaches quite often when using it. Then the doctor added Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg. A few weeks after the therapy, I started easily to feel hot and sweaty. Maybe I should ask the doctor about this at the next meeting.
Avatar m tn The only medication that works from what I tried is metoprolol tartrate. I started off by taking 2x 25mg. After 1 year my cardio let me increase the dosage to 50 mg x2, but everytime I increase the dosage it seems to work perfectly for the first weeks and then again it does not work well anymore. Does body develop tolerance to beta blockers? Do you need to take more and more of this medication to get same effect?
1464004 tn?1384139333 I looked up Metoprolol, it is used in doses up to 450 mg/day (likely in divided doses), so, in my non-professional opinion, 50 mg/day of Metoprolol is a low dose. In that sense, you shouldn't have problems. ACE Inhibitors and ARBs are an alternate way to lower blood pressure, but you and your physician would need to determine if they are right for you. Both are prescription medications and act on vessels throughout the body.
Avatar n tn ~Can also be found as Metoprolol Succinate, Metoprolol Tartrate, Lopressor, Dutoprol, or Toprol XL These drugs are part of a combination to regulate your high blood pressure, so they don't interfere with each other. They work together, were you on just one medicine before you got on all three of these? Make sure you take them at the same time every night.

Avatar f tn I've been taking 25 mg a day (split in 2) for around 2 years now, I've occasionally gone to 50 mg a day but had to go back down Everytime. it was given to me because of PVC / slightly high blood pressure and sinus tach. it helped at first but I was sent to the ER 16 days ago for panic attack / tach due to smoking weed. ever since my symptoms have gotten so much worse. I stopped eating due to nervousness and lost 4 lbs over 12 days...they did a holter and said it was normal.
Avatar f tn Metoprolol helped greatly in making it easier to convert. Also, there are 2 types of Metoprolol, Metoprolol Tartrate, and Metoprolol Succinate. The latter is a time release version called Toprol XL. This is nice because you only need to take 1 tablet a day. The downside is it's a high tier drug for insurance companies its price is really up there. I get a Metoprolol Tartrate for about 25% of the price. I found the drug easy to tolerate, and experience limited side effects.
