Avatar n tn My father-in-law is 76 years old and has been having fainting spells along with stomach upset and dizziness. His previous doctor had him on Nifedipin XL 60 mg and Metoprolol ER 25 mg. He takes the Nifedipin at night?? and the metoprolol in the morning. All his fainting spells occur at night. They hospitilized him for one week but found nothing wrong with him. Is it possible they didn't consider the drug interactions or the dosing schedule as responsible for the fainting?
Avatar f tn Hey, Just wondering how others got off metoprolol er? I was on 50mg for about 6 months, then was on 25mg for 6 months and my doc wants me to come off of it completely as I have had a reduction of PVC episodes over the months. Frankly, I'm looking forward to getting off of it as well, but have concerns. Anyways, what did you do to get off of Metoprolol ER?
1933354 tn?1323366434 Keep in mind that when you switched from Toprolol ER (Metoprolol Succinate) to Lopressor (Metoprolol Tartrate), you lost the timed released advantage. If you were taking 25mg. pills of each medication, you are loosing a great deal of the latter drug's effectiveness as the day wears on. The half life of Metoprolol Tartrate is only 3-7 hours. So you must take it at least twice a day for it to be effective the entire 24 hour period. Also 25mg., once a day is a a very small dose.
Avatar n tn I believe a resting HR above 100 indicates the need to bring it down. 25 mg of metoprolol (regular release) is very low - how long have you been at that dose level? If only a few days I think you may need to give it a little more time...again if it is helping lower your HR. I take the same dose myself and it, along with a calcium channel blocker (all generic, low cost versions) bring my resting HR from about 130 down to about 80.
Avatar n tn is it safe to take metoprolol 50mg er lisinopril 10 mg and hctz 25 mg all once a day
Avatar m tn Doctor has also presribed Hydrochlorot, 25 mg, Triam/HCTZ 37.5-25, Amlodipine, 5 mg. Each of these are taken 1 x daily. Other medications include Zetia for elevated cholesteral and Naproxen for severe osteoarthritis. I note on side effects that vomiting is listed but not how often. Has anyone experienced similiar episodes. Pat M.
Avatar n tn Last month I had a 24 hr, halter monitor and the dr. said I had episodes of a fast heart rate. She put me on metoprolol succ er .25 mg once a day. This has helped but I am very anxious about taking meds. When I started the meds I was working in school and didn't think much about it, but now that I am off for the summer, I am a little more anxious and have been having an occasional skipped beat when I am not busy. Could this be a result of anxiety? My heart does not race .
Avatar m tn Will see how things is going on the Metoprolol and will have to choose between the Metoprolol or the Propranolol... Also I need to find the good dose for me... 25 mg of Metoprolol in the morning and 25 mg 12 hours later is not working for me, I don't feel that the effect of the Metoprolol last more than 5 hours... so taking lower dose every 6 hours, like I do with the Propranolol, is by far better for me...
9870921 tn?1481262567 I am on 100 mg of metoprolol tartrate twice a day, and yesterday I have stepped it down to 75 mg twice a day..talk about dizzy...whooo.. anyway I am going to have a ablation on wednesday for SVT. I was told to hold my meds the night before and morning of the procedure, I wasn't sure how safe that was, called the pharmacist and he said that was perfectly safe..the doctor also said after the ablation I may not need them at all, so yes I am confused.
Avatar f tn After all cardiac tests came back normal, she mentioned that it may be stress related. I'm now being prescribed 20 mg Celexa for aniexty. I only take 6.25 mg of Metoprolol, cutting it into quarters, but are scared to take the two in combination. There are so many warnings about not mixing them. My heart rate has slowed down with the Celexa, but I still get the pounding sensation. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Avatar n tn I guess for some people its mild, but it hit me pretty hard. I was reduced to 25 mg/day but I'm still having short runs of SVT. On the 25 mg/day at firsst I was sleepy during the day with headaches that lasted all day. My hands and feet were falling asleep (tingly) during exercise. Almost 3 weeks later, the headaches and sleepiness aren't as bad. My body is probably adjusting. I'm still planning on a consultation with an EP for possible ablation (if I'm a candidate).
Avatar n tn I was put on 25 mg Metoprolol (12.5mg 2x per day) on April 4, 2012 for a multicfocal atrial tachycardia event (lasted a day). Echocardiogram showed that my heart is in great shape. All was finew/ the Metoprolol (no side effects) until late July when I started losing LOTS of hair (300-400 hairs per shampooing; "normal" shedding of 75-125 when not shampooing) and now my previously thick, shiny hair is thinning rapidly and dull.
Avatar m tn But I am an anxious person and was prescribed beta blocker(Metoprolol ER 50mg and Amlong which was changed to 25mg metoprolol ER and Losartan 25mg after 4 years). Yes I dont have any heart problems and nothing in my family and also not diabetic. My age is 40. Still taking metoprolol only and will go for a review soon and would sort things out. I am happy with metoprolol 50mg ER to Bisoprolol 5mg...
Avatar f tn I was also having a lot of anxiety and panic attacks at that time. I was prescribed metoprolol 25 mg. My blood pressure is usually normal and after taking the medicine it had been getting a little too low so I was told to take only half. My bp is still getting down to 92/60 at times and is making me feel tired and lightheaded. Has anyone experienced this? I am worried about my bp getting even lower and making me pass out. The nurse at my cardiologist office told me not to skip my dose.
443862 tn?1238003039 I had hyperactive thyroid which gave me a fast heart rate and they put me on 25 mg metoprolol 2x per day since Feb 2008. Had thyroid surgery this Nov 28th adn everyone assumed I can now go off the beta blocker and heart rate should go back to normal Did 2 weeks of only 25mg 1x per day Now 3 days ago doc says take the 25mg pill and cut it in half 12.5mg and take every monring. But my pulse is back up to the 80s and low 90s.
214864 tn?1229718839 I'd be only too happy to start a forum of people who'd actually like to persue going after the manufacturer , KV Pharmaceuticals, for not taking responsibility that their metoprolol succinate ER 50 MG is a dangerous drub. Please contact me on on my email: ***@****.
Avatar n tn It's so interesting how we all react differently to these drugs. For me, I was on metoprolol (only 12.5 mg) and had vivid, horrible night terrors and had to come off after 3 days. Then (like you) I went on to diltiazem for 3 days. While on this, I had some insomnia and almost felt like I was having a stroke at one point. I had facial flushing and weird body sensations. Came off that one. Now I'm on atenolol (25 mg) and it puts me to SLEEP very easily.
876405 tn?1243511886 I was taking metoprolol 25 mg twice a day and then my dr discontinued it because I found out that I was pregnant. Now I am taking something else for the blood pressure that is safe to take in pregnancy. It just *****, because suddenly they came out of nowhere and I am trying to find a reason for them..they are literally driving me insane- it's all I think about..I don't know if they are going to kill me or not. Tomorrow I go to the cardiologist and they'll do an echo...
Avatar n tn I was given a tiny dose (25 mg.). My doctor said for woman my size (5'8, 155 lbs), it is like peeing in the ocean. But, I tried it nonetheless. For the two months that I was on it, I had the most horrible dreams of my life, I mean awful (my kids dying and drowning, me getting chased by murderers, etc... just horrible). I did not see any noticeable effect from the medication at all. Just tired and horrible dreams.
Avatar m tn I am quitting Metoprolol Succ cold turkey because after being on it for five weeks, my heart rate and blood pressure have been good, but I had an anxiety attack so bad it sent me to the ER yesterday. After takiing 325 mg of baby asprin I went home fine. I am feeling withdrawals today, but my blood pressure is down. I developed severe insomnia and anxiety, and severe tingling in all my extremeties. It is hard to get in to see my doctor but I will ASAP.
612551 tn?1450025775 He changed my med. from 25 mg. of atenonol twice a day to 25 mg. of Metoprolol twice a day. Have noticed an increase in heart rate when I wake up to about 80-85 and with Atenonol mid 60's. I believe I also have sleep apnea but after going in for a sleep study I could not get to sleep so don't know what to do. I to get nightmares, headaches and shortness of breath. Do you have any thoughts on this.
Avatar n tn (50 mg at noon 50 mg at midnight) 3 days later I went back because of slow heart rate and he cut it down to 25 mg at noon and 25 mg at midnight. I've read that it is dangerous going off of Metoprolol and was wondering if I should be worried.
Avatar f tn Hello, My doctor as put me on 25 mg metoprolol extened release daily for palpitations. I am reading on the web about weight gain and hair loss. Does hanyone has any experience with this medicine--good or bad? I am 38 years old otherwise healthy, active person and I eat right but am little nervous about starting the medicine as i have heard once you go on it, you have to take it forever. Someone please advise---share your experience with the medicine. Thank you.
Avatar f tn So, for rate control, I was running as high as 130 bpm at rest without Metoprolol, and with 100 mg I run as low as mid 70s when really at rest and around 90 if just walking around the house. It also lowers my normal blood pressure, but not too much..guess I'm usually around 120/70. Hope I didn't wander off topic, bottom line of this post, my experience with Metoprolol at 100 mg or less a day is the side effects are not troubling.
471161 tn?1317194550 I have been taking Metoprolol er 50 mg and hydrochlorot 25 mg for my blood pressure for the past 7 months. Right now I have a swollen lymph node in my neck that has been treated twice with antibiotics and is still there. I also have a bruise on my leg that keeps coming back with a knot inside it. Plus I feel I have fluid or swelling in by chest area. I have been to the doctor but nothing helps. Please tell me if this is the blood pressure medicine I am taking or maybe something else.
Avatar m tn I take regular release (lower cost) twice a day at 25 mg each. I've taken as high as 100 mg ER twice a day, and went under doctor's direction cold turkey from 200 to 100 then later to 50 mg. A calcium channel blocker was added to make up for the reduced BB in my case. I too have worn the long term (30 days? don't remember). I got used to it and don't remember having problems sleeping with it on In my case if confirmed my only problem is atrial fibrillation.
Avatar f tn My pulse was high (90) and the doc recommended starting a low dose of Metoprolol (12-1/2 mg twice a day). This brought my pulse down to mid 60's. I was also prescribed (in the ER) 10 meq of potassium twice a day I assume for the rest of my life. In addition, I was having issues with PVC's. My cardio recommended 250 mg of magnesium which solved the problem immediately. Anything more than that dose gave me bowel problems.
Avatar m tn They gave me some Phos-Nak, an extra 25 mg dose of Metoprolol and sent me home. Cardiac enzymes were good they said. My most recent echo and stress test were good. My cardiologist has me on 25 mg of Metoprolol 2 x a day and wants to add 120 mg of cardizem, too. I also take Effexor XR 75 mg a day and ativan .5 mg as needed for the anxiety these things are causing me. I'm frightened all the time and it is no way to live.
Avatar n tn I've had 2 complete cardio tests in the last 2 1/2 years and they only showed some arrhytmias. Over the last week, I cut my dosage in half, from 50 to 25 mg daily. My resting heart rate went from 55-60 BPM to 68-72 BPM. Blood pressure went up slightly and I feel better. I spoke with my cardio again and told him what I was doing. He said I could just discontinue the med completely if I wanted to, but was still recommending a pacemaker, even though my heart appears to be structurally sound.
Avatar f tn I started out like you on 25 mg a day of Metoprolol now I am up to 100mg. My HR still gets up sometimes to the 90's I also developed pericardial effusion. (inflammation and fluid build up around the heart) It could be that an increase of Metoprolol would do the trick. It might make you tired though. But if your HR is not more than 90 at any point of the day I think your doc may not increase it. I don't think Occupant was being sarcastic because normal resting HR is 60-100 BPM.
