Metoprolol xl 50

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol xl 50

toprol

Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
443862 tn?1238003039 I have been taking metoprolol succinate for quite a time. at first I was taking 25 mg then after 5 months it was increased to 50 mg and a few weeks ago i was taking 75 mg. I don't why but this medicine is causing my airways to narrow because I don't have any pulmonary disease my lungs are totally find expect that a few months ago my pulmonologist thought I had COPD for my PFT but thankfully I don't...which make me think that it maybe cause of the Metropolol...
Avatar f tn My EP doctor is changing me from 100mg metoprolol xl to 120mg diltiazem for svt. I have been on metoprolol xl for at least 10 yrs and I am still having episodes of flip flops so we talked about changing medication to see if it helps. He said I could just stop taking the metoprolol and start on the new. Would I not have any withdrawl off the metoprolol xl? Does diltiazem help with anxiety also? Is diltiazem better for svt flip flops?
Avatar f tn I just discovered this after 3 months of total misery, 7 different doctors, multiple tests, 1 hospitalization, 16 pound weight loss, almost lost my job, etc., etc., etc.. I want to know if this will have permanent effects on my body and heart and will I ever be the same again. I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now.
Avatar n tn Because my episodes began to increase in frequency some years ago, they tried me on several drugs (none of which I like or felt helped) and I eventually settled on 25mg per day of Toprol XL (time released Metoprolol), which is a pretty low dose and I have been taking that for over a decade. I'm not much of a drinker (just don't like the taste of it or the SVT that the alcohol sometimes brings on!
Avatar n tn Otherwise, my Echo and Holtor tests were excellent. My Doctor prescribed taking 12.5mg of metoprolol a day, even though he acknowledges that there is only a moderate chance that it will address and improve the problem. Having heard some of the more extreme cases of the potential side-effects of metoprolol, I was wondering... a.) Am I likely to experience many side-effects at such a small dosage? (I'm assuming 12.5mg 1x a day is considered a low dose). b.
Avatar f tn HI I have been on toprol xl 50 mg once a day for the past 12 years, the past few months I have been having strange symptoms of lightheaded, cold hands/feet,anxiety, tired..
Avatar f tn I have taken Metoprolol as high as 100 mg twice a day... more recently only 100 mg and now 50 mg once a day. I have added a calcium channel blocker --- I'm not getting better :( I have had no problem with a glass or two or wine or beer with meals, or even one with a snack. I agree the recommendation is to abstain from drinking alcohol. I'm sure I've told my cardiologist I have a drink "now and then" and I don't recall any outcry form him.
Avatar f tn I have just spent a week of horrible side affects, increased heart rate and increased BP, tingling, numbness in feet and fingers, bloating and nausea and basically, so tense that my chest and back ache. This switch was from Metoprolol ER 50 by Wockhardt which worked beautifully, to the one by Dr. Reddy from India which caused the above. Spent the day getting my doc to put me on Brand Toprol XL.
Avatar n tn I've been on 50 mg metoprolol twice a day for the last three months with no side effects at all except that my resting heart rate is somewhat low in the forties but even that has not caused any problems. I have not had the vivid dreams or tiredness that some people mention. Funny thing though, I have had more PVCs than I did before! All the best to you.
Avatar m tn I did ask the Pharmacist about having the Metoprolol 50 mg XL but in the Canada they don't do 25 or 50 XL dose... the XL dose are 100 mg and 200 mg only... Well thanks for your answer ;-) Take care of you!!!
1464004 tn?1384139333 Has anyone ever heard of heavy feeling tired legs as a side effect of Metoprolol ? I'm on a relatively low dose of 25 mg BID if the tartrate.
Avatar n tn I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
443862 tn?1238003039 No, I have not suffered from any dizzy spells as a result of the Toprol XL/Metoprolol. It worked quickly and I saw results within a few days, and it worked great! My chest pains decreased in frequency and severity, as well as the racing heartbeat I would sometimes get. My heart rate stays in the normal range (in the 80's per minute as well). It helped to decrease a lot of my physical problems from my panic attacks, and so has also decreased my panic attacks as a whole.
214864 tn?1229718839 com report, consumers have experienced increased blood pressure, increased heart rate and ectopic beats, as well as side effects such as nausea, dizziness and headaches when switched from Toprol XL to Metoprolol Succinate ER. ConsumerLab.com noted that the Sandoz formulation of the product is different from Toprol XL and dissolves in a different manner.
Avatar m tn I have taken 50 mgs of toprol XL for 12-13 years. It is a very safe and a good medication in my opinion. The XL means that it has an Extended Life .. in other words one pill is supposed work for at least 24 hours i think... but anyway... I dont know why the doc would say just use it when your rate is fast.. if you took one a day ....your heart rate should stay pretty regular Id think.. but Im not a doctor... I dont really know about taking it occassionally... doesnt make alot of sense to me..
Avatar n tn I've been taking 50 mg daily (25mg morning and evening) of metoprolol since early '04. I'm 49, male and aerobically active (cycling). I noted an immediate decrease in resting and exercise heartrate, and a reduction in aerobic capacity. I have kept exercising and now hardly notice the difference, except when I exercise at altitude. I also initially experienced cold hands/feet, and very vivid dreams, both disappeared in time. No stomach upset or other problems.
Avatar f tn I have to agree with tom_h. I have taken Metoprolol Succinate (Toprol XL) for many years. I went as high as 150 mg, but it never had really any effect on my BP - that is why it was originally prescribed for me and I dropped it because it was useless for that purpose. Now I am taken it again (50 mg) for Pac's/Pvc's and it reduces the number I have each day.
876405 tn?1243511886 I have been on Toprol XL 50 mg for a few yrs now. I did try to wean myself off a year or so ago b/c I just hate taking meds, plus the BB did not seem to help suppress my palps...but my heart did not like me not taking the darn things. I would get SOB when I would walk up a flight of stairs and I am in good health, active and walk daily. A few other symptoms as well when I went off so I got back on them. I guess I am stuck with this med forever.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been taking toprol xl 25 for about 3 months for palpitations and high blood pressure. Recently I had a visit with an awesome electrophysiologist who is 95% convinved that I have SVT due to my symptomology and triggers. He was happy to do an EP study ASAP but I am not entirely convinced and so I asked to do a holter monitor in 2 weeks and he obliged. Problem is he wants me to completely stop my beta blocker Toprol XL 25 before I strap on the holter monitor. I am terrified!
Avatar m tn I took up to 50 mg a day. I switched temporarily now to Toprol XL to see if that's the answer since the generics seem to have no effect.
Avatar n tn He began with metoprolol 2x per day and was switched to toprol xl 25 mg per day. The last post talked about nightmares with toprol. Does metoprolol or toprol bring about panic attacks? I believe my husband is having panic attacks and will not accept it. Is the medication causing this. for one year after his heart attack, he was doing great and then out of the clear, he began getting dizzy, lightheaded, nauseaus, jittery, weak and fatigued.
Avatar n tn Your experience of high heartrate after stopping Toprol XL are not unusual. I tried kicking my 50 mg (25 mg 2x) Metoprolol (long story) and had a 2+ week period of similar high heartrate. You need to come off of it SLOWLY. Work with your cardiologist on how to to this most effectively.
Avatar n tn When I left the Hospital they gave me Dilitiazem 160mg and Metoprolol 50 to be taken once per day. The Dilitiazem (Cartizem) gave me the worst side effects known to man whilst the Metropolol made me weak, nervous, and made me dream of things that I have only seen on Nightmare on Elm Street. Then it dawned on me, these doctors do not take these medications, they just prescribe it. They have no idea what we experience.
343006 tn?1314450071 I was prescribed Toprol XL a week ago. Pharmacist filled with generic Metoprolol Succ ER 50 mg Tasan. I'm taking 1/2 pill once a day, and not feeling well on it. My irritable bowell symptoms (IBS) are kicking up; I'm also irritated/agitated. Feel like I want to jump out of my skim. I generally don't do well on drugs because of my IBS, so I'm wondering if my side effects will improve or if I should be getting off this stuff and changing to another drug or trying something natural.
Avatar f tn I have a wonderful (and high profile) cardiologist in Boston (who performed the ablation). He put me on flecainide (worked up to 75mg/day) and 50mg/day metoprolol. It worked at first - not a blip. But then I started having frightening episodes of SVT, which brought me to the ER, and eventually hospitalization. He took me off the flecainide which seemed to be the cause of the SVT. I also have atrial flutter now.
687614 tn?1244201579 My experience is splitting a pill is less expensive than getting twice as many pills at 1/2 the dose. The only time I had 50 mg tables was for a period that I was on 50 mg once a day. Now all my "stock" is 100 mg pills, and I split, even if I take only 50 mg once a day. 5) while you must not just stop, I can testify that I have changed my dose downward without any problems, e.g., going from 50 mg twice a day to 50 mg once a day.
Avatar f tn My pharmacacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007. I have been on some form of Beta Blockers for years and I thought nothing of it. Within a week I was at my eye doctor because my left eye went from 20/20 to 20/60 and was so blurry that I felt like I had suntan lotion or something in it. Since then I have been to so many doctors because things just kept getting worse.
Avatar m tn Cardio swithced me to metoprolol xl 25mg 1x daily. my heart rate has gone from the high 50's to the high 80's from yesterday to today. Is this normal? I believed that the xl on the metoprolol was extended release, and that the dosage should do the same thing as far as hr and bp. by has gone from 116/68 to 138/89.
