Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol xl 100mg

Avatar f tn and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar f tn My EP doctor is changing me from 100mg metoprolol xl to 120mg diltiazem for svt. I have been on metoprolol xl for at least 10 yrs and I am still having episodes of flip flops so we talked about changing medication to see if it helps. He said I could just stop taking the metoprolol and start on the new. Would I not have any withdrawl off the metoprolol xl? Does diltiazem help with anxiety also? Is diltiazem better for svt flip flops?
Business man2 is the drug METOPROLOL ER 100 MG the same as or a replacement for TOPROL XL 100mg?
Avatar f tn Was OK on any high dose, but I have high blood pressure to begin with. I am on 100 mg Metoprolol, can’t feel it. Call them, tell them! And don't worry, they will find the right dose for you, sometimes it takes a while as I was reading others experiences. I am glad you went to the DR . Let us know, how all goes !
Avatar n tn My doctor has prescribed me 25 mg Toprol XL for the PVC's (flutters) I get after I eat. After reading the possible side effects, I am a little leary. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone know what the common side effects are?
Avatar m tn I did ask the Pharmacist about having the Metoprolol 50 mg XL but in the Canada they don't do 25 or 50 XL dose... the XL dose are 100 mg and 200 mg only... Well thanks for your answer ;-) Take care of you!!!
Avatar m tn I took Toprol xl for a time - 25 mg. I could not take a pill all at once, because my bp would drop too low. The nurse finally told me to break the pill in half and take half in the morning and half at night. That worked a little better. I ended up eventually on Atenolol which I have taken for 6 years. I take it in divided doses, as my bp or hr goes up or down. If my hr and bp are too low, I delay a dose. But I never just skip it.
Avatar f tn I'm currently on 12.5mg of metoprolol succinate and 50mg sertraline and my doctor wants me to stop taking the beta blocker. He told me that just stopping it on 12.5 should be ok but I have concerns. I read that taking the two together can cause more levels of beta blocker to be in the system than normal due to how the liver processes both medications. Should I just stop it at 12.5 or should I taper down further to 6.25mg? Anyone else stop taking Toprol XL while on Zoloft?
Avatar m tn Toprol XL is the the timed release version of Metoprolol. If you're on 25mg, that is a teeny-tiny dose, I was on 100mg, at one time, and others have been on dosages as high as 400mg. Stopping it should not be a problem. For my ablation I had to stop my dose for the procedure. My electrophysiologist told me as well to just stop it cold. Because I find it hard to follow instructions (what do they know) ;-) I decided to dial it back slowly instead. Same results, except I did it my way.
876405 tn?1243511886 Here's the question- I am wondering if these PVC's and PAC's that I have been experiencing in the past 2 months have to do with suddenly stopping the metoprolol that I was on for my high blood pressure. I don't recall ever getting them before and now they occurring constantly..I was taking metoprolol 25 mg twice a day and then my dr discontinued it because I found out that I was pregnant. Now I am taking something else for the blood pressure that is safe to take in pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I had cardioversion, but still have a-fib and my heart rate is too high again (I'm on an event monitor which reported to my doctor that my heart rate was 150 last night while I slept through it). He has put me on 100mg metoprolol - I'll be taking the 2nd dose (50mg) in a few minutes. He wanted me on the brand name Toprol XL, but the pharmacies are having a hard time stocking it right now so I'm on the regular (not extended release) version, taking it in the a.m. and again in the p.m.
343006 tn?1314450071 as well cutt back on the toprol xl to 100mg per day.. though now my b.p is up again around 135/ 90 hr is good for some reason. Happy to hear your doing well on your toprol xl .. I think the trick is lowering the doseage of toprol xl to stop the effects or problems .. its like you cant live with them. and cant live without them. stuck behind a 8 ball... cant win !!!!!!!!! also Mayo is top rated in the u.s.a. I will check them out .. also im checking into the Arziona heart inst.
Avatar m tn Cardio swithced me to metoprolol xl 25mg 1x daily. my heart rate has gone from the high 50's to the high 80's from yesterday to today. Is this normal? I believed that the xl on the metoprolol was extended release, and that the dosage should do the same thing as far as hr and bp. by has gone from 116/68 to 138/89.
Avatar f tn 5 I took that for two days without the Metoprolol XL. Day two with all the illness I called my Dr and he told me to take half 50 mg of the Metoprolol XL and drop the Tukumera for now. I did that felt good enough to shower in the morning, but then day 3 in the evening got really sick, scared, panicked. Oh yeah forgot to mention anxiety which I have never had I have had since I went off of Metoprolol XL. I called Dr thinking I should probably go to ER. Bp went to the highest of 168 over 93.
Avatar n tn In 2000, I developed very frequent PVCs (6 times a minute). I was put on Toprol XL 100mg and they said it would take about 3-6 months for them to become less frequent. I had them for 3 years, then some else mentioned this book on this forum and out of desperation I got a copy. My PVCs subsided as I practiced the techniques. Took about a year. But now I only get the normal 1 or 2 pvcs a week. And I've been that way for 5 years now. Its a cheap book from the 1960s.
Avatar m tn When I made that same switch a few years ago, I went from 100mg Toprol XL once a day to 100mg metoprolol succinate once a day. Neither my doctor nor my pharmacist ever suggested that I would need to split the dose. My understanding is that metoprolol succinate is an extended release formuation that substitutes directly for Toprol XL. But ask your doc or a pharmacist to make sure. I'm off of the drug entirely now, so I don't worry with it anymore.
1423357 tn?1511089042 My blood pressure was low at the time of my visit yesterday; 100/62. He ordered me to reduce my Metoprolol by 50% from 100mg to 50mg per day. I was also advised to refrain from strenous activities for another week to allow the bruise to heal. I also discovered that 17 burns performed during the ablation and not the 13 as I had originally stated. So I have to go back in 6 months for a followup.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is available in two forms, fast acting Metoprolol Tartrate (Lopressor), and the time release Metoprolol Succinate (Toprol XL). I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat.
201324 tn?1191089878 I took the Toprol until I couldn't stand it anymore, then I was switched to the generic form of the same drug, metoprolol. It was not time released like the Toprol XL is. It is more of an immediate acting drug. I had almost none of the same side effects. But I quit taking it anyway because I wasn't getting any relief of the ectopic beats anyway. I went off it five or six months ago all together and I have not had any repeat episodes of the a-fib for a year. Good luck!
Avatar n tn ~Can also be found as Metoprolol Succinate, Metoprolol Tartrate, Lopressor, Dutoprol, or Toprol XL These drugs are part of a combination to regulate your high blood pressure, so they don't interfere with each other. They work together, were you on just one medicine before you got on all three of these? Make sure you take them at the same time every night.
Avatar f tn I was on Toprol XL for a number of years, but only 25mg. I hated the side effects such as shortness of breath and nightsweats, but never depressions. Then I went to see a cardiologist and he took me off the beta blocker and prescribed a calcium channel blocker - 5mg.
Avatar n tn Thye are weight for weigh the same, so if you take 100mg of Metoprolol Succinate once a day, you could quarter a 100mg tablet of Metoprolol Tartrate and just remember to take it four times a day. Of course you'd have a period of time during your sleep cycle where the dose level might decline a bit. I switched to Metoprolol Tartrate years ago when my insurance company raise Toprol to a high tier co-pay. The other is literally pennies by comparison.
Avatar f tn The Toprol XL (Metoprolol Succinate) tablet should not be cut in half. Doing so defeats it's time release properties. If you want to mess with dosages (and I don't think you should), the generic Metoprolol Tartrate (referred to as just Metoprolol) can be cut in half without a problem. I take an odd, 75mg. Per day; 50mg at dinner, and 25mg (half a pill) upon rising. Think of your dose level as a "starting dose level".
Avatar n tn The best option might be to switch to a long-acting version of metoprolol called Toprol XL. This is a once a day medicine. Good luck.
Avatar f tn The problem is the cost. It's much higher than Metoprolol Tartrate which is literally pennies per dose. 100mg should have a significant impact with lowered BP as well as a slower pulse. I'm on 75mg and have been so for 10 years. It's a good med. If you run, exercise or workout, you will probably need a little longer to warm up as it does throttle back on the pulse and the heart seems a little slower to react to demands. But once up to speed you should be fine. Also...
Avatar n tn For me Toprol is short for Toprol-XL which is the long acting form of metoprolol. There is no Brand name Toprol (just Toprol-XL). An example of short acting metoprolol would be Lopresor.
Avatar n tn I have had atrial flutter for the past 8 years, and have been taking up to 100mg of Flecanide twice a day. I also take 12.5 mg of Toprol XL. I was recently diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropathy (numbness and tingling or burning) in the hands and mostly the feet. I have read that some people who take Flecanide have contracted Perepheral Neuropathy. Is this typical of all AF drugs. I am in Mexico, and a local doctor suggested that I switch to a drug called RYTHMOL.
Avatar f tn I was on 100mg for my SVT, and was as high as 200mg when we were experimenting with dosages. I'd talk to your physician about bumping it up a bit. Also, Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate) is a timed release version of metoprolol. If you are good about taking medications, Metoprolol Tartrate is perhaps a quarter of the cost of the Toprolol XL, except you have to take it twice a day. I take mine every 12 hours, at dinner and upon rising; 5 and 5 is easy to remember.
Avatar f tn Metoprolol helped greatly in making it easier to convert. Also, there are 2 types of Metoprolol, Metoprolol Tartrate, and Metoprolol Succinate. The latter is a time release version called Toprol XL. This is nice because you only need to take 1 tablet a day. The downside is it's a high tier drug for insurance companies its price is really up there. I get a Metoprolol Tartrate for about 25% of the price. I found the drug easy to tolerate, and experience limited side effects.
