Avatar f tn My D.O. just prescribed Medroxyprogesterone at my request; I had been on this before for PCOS, but I don't think it was prescribed to me in the correct way as I remember. The prescription is written to take 1 tablet(10mg) by mouth once daily. I don't think I am to take this every day for 30 days, so could you tell me what the correct dosage is for this problem and when do I begin taking it? Seems to me that I took it after I had a period for a period of 5 -10 days, I just can't remember.
2051102 tn?1330321233 I will be doing this for 6 months. Why is this medication prescribed? Medroxyprogesterone is used to treat abnormal menstruation (periods) or irregular vaginal bleeding. Medroxyprogesterone is also used to bring on a normal menstrual cycle in women who menstruated normally in the past but have not menstruated for at least 6 months and who are not pregnant or undergoing menopause (change of life).

Avatar f tn Hello, I am taking Medroxyprogesterone also. I took it for 10 days and 3-4 days later spotting occured, then 2 days after AF arrived. The way I took it was before I went to bed. I've heard it has some bad effects, which was the case the first round. I did see my doctor during the first round of taking (for other reasons) and casually said that "yesterday was the last day" and she had mentioned that AF would come within 10 days.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with PCOS in the beginning of the year and was put on medroxyprogesterone actate 10mg for 3 months (21 days each). After 3 months, I went back to see my gynae but things didn't improve (nor got worse) and I was put on the same medication for another 4 months. After the 1st month (of 2nd intake) my period failed to come. Please advise on what I should do.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. I missed my period for two months, then was bleeding for 6 weeks. I am not sure what to do as the only symptom of PCOS I had was through my ultra sound. My menstrual cycle is pretty regular, lasts about 5 days, first day is light, next few days are normal and then it lightens up and is gone by the 5th day. I don't have heavy bleeding a tampon works fine. I am not overweight all of my blood work is perfect.
Avatar f tn Hello All, It's been Six days since my last medroxyprogesterone (provera) pill and I'm waitinf for AF to show and nothing! So of course her I go with the worrying. I have PCOS so the chances of me being pregnant right now without the Clomid Metformin and Medroxyprogesterone is slim to none as I haven't had a cycle since July of Last year.
Avatar f tn My endocrinologist said that there aren't a lot of medications for PCOS. She said that there's basically these options: Spironolactone, Metformin, birth control and some other pill that was designed for men and could give women cancer so she wouldn't suggest that one. What do you think? Do you think I should try another endocrinologist? This is very unpleasant but do you guys also experience a lot of cervical mucus?
430388 tn?1239588723 All I can say is I have had PCOS for over 7 years and I finally have my miracle baby! I even went to the Mayo Clinic and was there for a week and a "team" of doctors said I woudln't get pregnant and then BAM! I actually got pregnant 3 weeks after that visit so all I am saying is: It CAN happen! See a different doctor. Do as much research as possible on PCOS and fertility. Look into seeing an Endocrinologist also. That may help you.
Avatar f tn Anyway recently I returned to a different doctor and informed him of no periods (6 years now) he was concerned since my uterus should be shedding regularly and informed me of high cancer risk. Current Dr thinks I may have PCOS, he also prescribed Medroxyprogesterone to see if my period will start and ran blood test.

706727 tn?1229096832 I was aslo on medroxyprogesterone last summer due to PCOS and it gave me a flow for 2 weeks ( My menstrual usually last 5 days) and also had bad cramping. She gave it to me to take 5 days out of every month but after the first time, I did not take it again. I would go to the doctor.
Avatar f tn Have one that last two days, and 1 week later I'd start again.) So it's never been a 'normal' lifestyle for me.** **Fast forward 4 years after the exam. and LOTS and LOTS of cramps and mood swings later.** I've gain a lot of weight since I started, not going to denying being fat already. I have went to many, many, many doctors. And the end result was always the same. "You're fat, lose weight, exercise, eat right and you'll be okay." Not lying.
Avatar m tn The only difference is that I'm yet to be diagnosed with PCOS and am presently waiting for the results of blood tests. Am certain that I've got it now that I've read your post; I didn't start my periods until I was gone 17 and was irregular (having maybe 6 periods a year or being very irregular) until just under 2 years ago.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with PCOS, and have been prescribed with MedroxyPROGESTERone (10mg) and MetFORMIN (500mg). I was instructed to take one Medroxy pill for 10 days before bedtime, every month for 3 months. Along with one Metformin pill for 2 weeks every night before bedtime, then continuing with 2 pills every morning after the 2 week bedtime sequence. I finished my 10 day Medroxy pill yesterday night. And was wondering how much longer it would take to get my period.

Avatar f tn i have been having unprotected sex with my boyfriend for 3 yrs now, never been on birth control and have yet to come up pregnant. At first i thought i just had an irregular period but now im scared that i will not be able to conceive. Since the age of 18, doctors have told me that my period will regulate itself...im 22 and its still irregular. Now it seems as if i cant get pregnant, i think i was mis-diagnosed.
Avatar n tn My friend has PCOS, and was put on Metformin to treat the insulin resistance. For her cycles, she was given a few days of progesterone to bring on a cycle, then Clomid to cause her to ovulate. She got pg the 1st month. Some women take a lot longer though. Sorry the news wasn't more positive, but if you at least getsome answers, then you may have a better chance of conceiving.
1557930 tn?1294636149 Normally the level of progesterone in your blood increases about a week before your period. If medroxyprogesterone is taken for 5 to 10 days each month at this time (ie day 16 to 21 of your cycle) it mimics the natural rise in your progesterone levels. This can help your other hormones to behave in a more normal way. To treat irregular periods this medicine is taken in this way for two menstrual cycles. To treat periods that have stopped it is taken for three menstrual cycles.
Avatar f tn My boyfriend and I decided we wanted to start trying for a baby. I have pcos and I dont get my period unless I am on some type of medication. My doctor started me in medroxyprogesterone to induce my period then clomid for ovulation today is my last day on it. Just wondering how many women actually get pregnant from this and how long it took. Im pretty new to all this so any helpful insight would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn "Is it normal for a person with PCOS to have normal hormone levels?" I don't think so. People with polycystic ovary syndrome have a high LH (luteinizing hormone), lower level of FSH and abnormal levels of male hormones, particularly testosterone. Honestly... if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't take anything medications that my body doesn't want. My opinion. Best of luck to you !
