Medroxyprogesterone and pcos

Common Questions and Answers about Medroxyprogesterone and pcos

Avatar f tn  What we do need to be careful of is our weight and eating habits. Ladies with pcos can tend to be overweight and even become diabetic. So staying healthy is key both for you and your future baby. Keep your head up!!!!!
Avatar f tn My D.O. just prescribed Medroxyprogesterone at my request; I had been on this before for PCOS, but I don't think it was prescribed to me in the correct way as I remember. The prescription is written to take 1 tablet(10mg) by mouth once daily. I don't think I am to take this every day for 30 days, so could you tell me what the correct dosage is for this problem and when do I begin taking it? Seems to me that I took it after I had a period for a period of 5 -10 days, I just can't remember.
2051102 tn?1330321233 And I really pray that God intervenes and be a spiritual cure for this pcos. My fiance and I really want to have one more baby. But as I explained to him description and the purpose he became really concerned also and told me to read on it more. As I read the stories and the comments I became sad because for one I have never been through this and for this to be my first time it puts me a bit on edge.

777396 tn?1329791151 Did the vaginal ultrasound that diagnosed me with PCOS, had an MI for my pituitary gland , and a lovey HSG test for the uterus and tubes had a mucous plug but that is about it for now. Keep you updated.
Avatar f tn anyway Ive been taking the medroxyprogesterone for 2 1/2 days and no significant side effects...a little sluggish feeling kinda blah and dreaming alot more than usual.....
Avatar f tn Hello, I am taking Medroxyprogesterone also. I took it for 10 days and 3-4 days later spotting occured, then 2 days after AF arrived. The way I took it was before I went to bed. I've heard it has some bad effects, which was the case the first round. I did see my doctor during the first round of taking (for other reasons) and casually said that "yesterday was the last day" and she had mentioned that AF would come within 10 days.
Avatar f tn I have had 1 successful pregnancy which was over 10 yrs ago I have now been diagnosed with pcos and have been put on medroxyprogesterone(provera) 10mg/10days and metformin 500mg/3x since I'm ttc. So I took my medroxy this month and it is now day 5 and no cycle also the last 4 days my nipples have been really sensitive and tender. All the other times that I've taken the medroxy I got my cycle 3days after my last dose. So could I possibly be pregnant?
Avatar n tn Hi I also have PCOS and was diagnosed with it since I was 16. I had to be put on bc to try and help regulate my period. I'm 5'6 and weighed about 240 back in 2012. I'm also insulin resistant so i had a hard time losing weight and was told I would probably have a very hard time trying to conceive down the road due to my health issues. So my doctor put me on Metformin 500mg 2x a day and in a year I had lost 40lbs and my periods had somewhat regulated.
Avatar f tn i finished my med on tue 22nd dec and still no sign of AF,can you tell me how long this should take. all info i can find states 2-3 days after last tablets. i have pcos and been trying for 16months after mc.not oving so doc presc med and clomid any info would be appreciated and how long do i wait before i contact my docs.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with PCOS in the beginning of the year and was put on medroxyprogesterone actate 10mg for 3 months (21 days each). After 3 months, I went back to see my gynae but things didn't improve (nor got worse) and I was put on the same medication for another 4 months. After the 1st month (of 2nd intake) my period failed to come. Please advise on what I should do.
Avatar m tn The ultrasound showed tiny mature follicle (meaning I didn't ovulate) and they just sit in there and confirmed PCOS. I was thrown off by this, went for a second opinion and the diagnosis was confirmed for the second time. I can say, if I were you to get a second opinion and that way you will have more time to let it sink in. I went through two miscarriages last year, was placed on Metformin 1000 MG twice a day to help with the insulin resistance that can come with PCOS.
Avatar n tn I have not had a weight problem before I found out I had PCOS. I have been working on my eatting and excercise habits for the past few years. Me and my husband have had unprotected sex for about 2 1/2 years now. I finally went to the dr. and told them we are ready to conceive I was prescribed medroxyprogesterone & Metformin. I have realized I have to make myself healthier and not rely on any type of medication.
Avatar f tn Anyway I've posted before about our ventures in TTCing and the ups and downs of everything and although I've been taking metformin to help with the PCOS, I still didn't have a period and it was fine because we weren't ready to try again.
430388 tn?1239588723 At least the way I read it was that you can get pregnant if you choose to wait a little while longer, meaning that it will probably take a little longer to get pregnant with PCOS, but with the correct Dr - who gets bloodwork done to check your hormones, and gets those straightened out w/prescriptions - you should have no problems. I am 38, just diagnosed with PCOS - probably had it since High School, but just not TTC.
Avatar f tn And how do you handle all the body hair? It grows faster than I can remove it and I don't have the money for permanent solutions. And it only seems to be getting worse. What do you do when you want to put on a bathing suit? Or dress in something a little revealing? I feel like moving to Antarctica so I can cover myself up all the time...
Avatar f tn Anyway recently I returned to a different doctor and informed him of no periods (6 years now) he was concerned since my uterus should be shedding regularly and informed me of high cancer risk. Current Dr thinks I may have PCOS, he also prescribed Medroxyprogesterone to see if my period will start and ran blood test.
Avatar n tn My hormones have been checked, my thyroid has been checked 3 times, and I've been tested for Cushings. All have come back normal. Doctors have suggested PCOS (I am very heavy and can't get control of my weight, no cycle, some extra hair growth) but nothing has been a set diagnosis. The endrocrinologist wants me to start taking Metformin not for diabetes but for treatment of the period/weight issues. I'm just so frustrated. I don't know what's wrong with me and I'm scared.

706727 tn?1229096832 I was aslo on medroxyprogesterone last summer due to PCOS and it gave me a flow for 2 weeks ( My menstrual usually last 5 days) and also had bad cramping. She gave it to me to take 5 days out of every month but after the first time, I did not take it again. I would go to the doctor.
Avatar m tn Had a period in May with no help, missed June and July so I Started my Medroxyprogesterone again in August and started my period later that same month. Missed September, but as of October and without needing the medroxyprogesterone I have been getting my period every month. So my first question is can taking just a couple rounds of progesterone help elevate your hormones? My next question is in regards to some symptoms I'm having and if they are related to things regulating out.
Avatar n tn HI, The problem of PCOS needs to be excluded by doing an ultrasound scan and hormonal panel. PCOS is one of the reasons of infrequent menstruation. Once a definite diagnosis is made then appropriated treatment can be initiated. Irregular taking of hormones can complicate matters. Consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation. Hope this helps. Take care and good luck.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with PCOS, and have been prescribed with MedroxyPROGESTERone (10mg) and MetFORMIN (500mg). I was instructed to take one Medroxy pill for 10 days before bedtime, every month for 3 months. Along with one Metformin pill for 2 weeks every night before bedtime, then continuing with 2 pills every morning after the 2 week bedtime sequence. I finished my 10 day Medroxy pill yesterday night. And was wondering how much longer it would take to get my period.
Avatar f tn this pill induces a period each month. I was told I have PCOS and this should help regulate everything so I can ovulate on my own monthly. If you are unsure of anything, just ask your doctor!
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and my ObGyn had a transvaginal ultrasound. The lining of my uterus was so thick, she has prescribed a 90 day course of Medroxyprogesterone! Before seeing my current Gynecologist, I was told, "oh its normal for a woman to skip a period, and sometimes women that are overweight suffer from hirutism", "some women just bleed heavier and longer than others" I can't believe the malarkey some DR's let spew from their mouths.
Avatar f tn My boyfriend and I decided we wanted to start trying for a baby. I have pcos and I dont get my period unless I am on some type of medication. My doctor started me in medroxyprogesterone to induce my period then clomid for ovulation today is my last day on it. Just wondering how many women actually get pregnant from this and how long it took. Im pretty new to all this so any helpful insight would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn I think she believes I show symptoms of PCOS, now on to my question. Has anyone had this and if so what is done to help you concieve besides the loosing weight aspect. The questions that my gyn was asking lead me to think, that that's what she could be testing for when I go back for lab work! Anyway as I always say any help is good help and all help is appreciated and accepted.
