Common Questions and Answers about Medroxyprogesterone depo-provera

depo-provera

Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Goodman, I wonder if you have any information about how Depo-Provera can change the symptoms of ovarian cancer v. ovarian cysts? I have been on Depo-Provera for two years and it seems that it would mask all the symptoms that are most likely to identify a cyst vs. a tumour. Do you know anything about how the two would look different in the presence of Depo-Provera?
Avatar f tn Medroxyprogesterone acetate Polyethylene glycol 3350 Polysorbate 80 Sodium chloride Methylparaben Propylparaben Water for injection some of which are actually ingredients in the foods we eat every day. the ones that aren't are either hormones or non-thermisolic preservatives, such as methylparaben or propylparaben. So I would say that there's almost no chance the shot is the cause. have you spoken with a geneticist?

Avatar n tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Depo-Provera injection contains the active ingredient medroxyprogesterone acetate. It disrupts the menstrual cycle. It also causes irregular bleeding or spotting, heavy or prolonged bleeding, or your menstrual bleeds to stop altogether. It is quite effective in preventing pregnancy. This is merely an advice and not a substitute of clinical examination. Consult your attending doctor. Take care!

Avatar f tn The medication you're talking about is a birth control shot also called Depo-Provera. This is not a pill that you would take for five days it is a shot you would get in your doctors office. This is a type of birth control, you need to get the shot every three months if you were trying to prevent a pregnancy. There is a delay in returning to fertility that may be between 3 and 18 months depending on the woman. It also stops menstrual cycles in a lot of women.
Avatar n tn I finished the Seasonale packet the day after surgery, was off the hormones for about a week, and then my gyn gave me the options of more oral BC, Depo-Provera, or Depo-Lupron. The Lupron scared the bejezus out of me, and the oral BC's were all synthetic, which I reacted badly to, so I tried the Depo-Provera. It seemed to work for the first shot, then as I approached the end of the three months, light period started. Gyn upped dose to every 8 weeks instead of 12, and doubled the dose.
1856888 tn?1325186544 usually best use of depo-provera is that you do not delay the next injection with in 1/2 weeks. i am not sure after missing one month when are you suppose to start provera. however with medication Normally the level of progesterone in your blood increases about a week before your period. If medroxyprogesterone is taken for 5 to 10 days each month at this time (ie day 16 to 21 of your cycle) it mimics the natural rise in your progesterone levels.
Avatar f tn It hurts after the surgery, but that is inevitable. I am willing to try the injection Depo-provera (medroxyprogesterone) because one of my country – surround area friend who lives here told me to take it because she used to and it was very good. Now she decided to have the tube-ligation. She is doing fine after all. Any ideas anybody on this Depo-provera??? Thanks in advance and good Luck!
Avatar f tn i recently got on birth control to prevent getting pregnant because my boyfriend thinks he want a child but i am not ready for that responsibility.I chose depo provera because i knew the pills would be alot of work, and i would forget to take them everyday. when i started i had a period for 2 months straight i thought it was normal but it turns out i was only suppose to spot. my lymp nodes started to swell up to 4 cm. they cause me constant pain.
Avatar n tn I have been on depo provera for some time now. I recently had unprotected sex. I am worried about the possibility of pregnancy. But with the depo I no longer have my periods so I don't know when would be the best time to take a pregnancy test if I feel I may be pregnant. Can someone give me advice?
Avatar f tn Provera is also prescribed to prevent abnormal growth of the uterine lining in women taking estrogen replacement therapy. Other forms of medroxyprogesterone, such as Depo-Provera, are used as a contraceptive injection and prescribed in the treatment of endometrial cancer. Some doctors prescribe Provera to treat endometriosis, menopausal symptoms, premenstrual tension, sexual aggressive behavior in men, and sleep apnea (temporary failure to breathe while sleeping). Avatar n tn This report relates to the remaining 44. 34 were treated with Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate), 9 with Colprone (megestrone acetate), and 1 with Megace (megestrol acetate). Of the 34 patients treated with Depo-Provera 13 showed regression of the tumor; 3 of the 9 treated with Colprone showed regression. In an additional 11 (25%) of cases growth of the tumors was arrested. 7 of these were later found to have abdominal metastases; however, 3 were free of symptoms for over 43 months.
Avatar n tn Hi there "38".. Good for you- for not going for the pretty-darn-tempting induction. :) My mom told me that when she was pregnant w/ my sister, she walked around for about a week w/ her "right there" ready to be born. .. Looks like you're in a similar boat. Take care of yourself..
622208 tn?1222549040 Until recently, I have always had regular menstrual cycles every 28 days (except with pregnancy and when I took the Depo Provera shot for three years). I haven't had a period since July 5, but I have had vaginal discharge with blood and occasional "spotting." I have been experiencing severe fatigue for since May. I assumed I was starting menopause. Consequently, my doctor orderd blood work, a pap smear, and ultrasound. My pap smear was normal.
Avatar n tn In fact there are numerous law suits going on now in America by women who had the Depo provera injections (again a progestin) and who have suffered these side effects. Some IUDs also secreted progestins and this might have been your problem too. Some Drs I have spoken to regarding moodswings and progestin look at me blankly and disagree and yet others nod knowingly. I guess it all depends on your Dr's experience.
Avatar n tn I have had endo for over ten years now and after a few surgeries and depo provera i finally put my foot down along with my husband and said Enough is enough, i couldnt live like that any longer! so i started Lucrin in Jan and i've got my last injection in a few days time. I was terrified of going on it after reading side effects but...the hot flushes, night sweats, headaches and feeling pregnant lol are nothing compared to how much pain i was in before!
Avatar n tn In November I had the depo provera shot. I didn't have my period for 2 weeks and then it came and has not stopped. It's now 3 days until August. I have a doctor appt. for the 1st and that was the soonest I can be seen. I want it to go away. I'm scared it won't. I think I'm getting anemic and that might explain some of my severe exhaustion etc. But it's been 8monthes almost 9. Know one told me this was a possible side effect.
Avatar n tn dose anyone no any thing about Depo-Provera aka the shot and what some woman can get with periods and if a dark brown with a little hint of orange dicharge is normal?
