648910 tn?1290663083 i quit taking my gabapentin due to weight gain/water gain whatever. i just didn't like that type of weight gain. have wanted to call to ask for Lyrica but haven't yet. i can sure tell i'm not taking it due to the noticeable increase certain pains.
1345254 tn?1325918041 I was on a lyrica regiment for about 6 months and in regard to side effects, never had any adverse reactions that were of concern. At first the Dr started me on gabapentin (neurontin), but that stuff really messed with me. Within a week, I'd wake in the mornings horribly dizzy..It would take me a couple hours just to get feeling somewhat normal. So the Dr switched me to the lyrica..
Avatar n tn Hello I'm not sure if I should keep posting here, especially since I don't have MS! But a lot of my symptoms, that remain after my treatment are similar, and there are undiagnosed people too with similar symptoms... so I dunno. Chime in and let me know if I shouldn't post because I won't be offended! I feel like posting I'm going to make people already concerned with possible MS to start thinking they may have cancer too!
Avatar f tn No that is how you should be feeling. Just be careful as it does cause weight gain. Follow a healthy diet and exercise and you will be fine. Also if may cause sleepness, so don't drive to much until you are comfortable with it.
5164523 tn?1366525959 A word of warning about Lyrica, it caused me to gain weight. Just thought I would pass on the info. Good luck!
Avatar f tn had to stop taking it for other reasons but it seemed better in the weight gain area for me(although I believe weight gain is still listed as a side effect -- you'll have to check). It worked well for my nerve pain though :).
1637739 tn?1371688706 That's one of the reasons I quit taking it... Well that and the fact that it wasn't helping me... Lyrica was the worst as far as weight gain goes... It actually did help with my pain quite a bit but my doctor took me off of it because he couldn't get my swelling under control while on it... That's how my luck runs though...lol...
131817 tn?1209529311 The one thing you have to be careful about with Lyrica is weight gain. Recently I have been losing weight like crazy, so maybe putting some on wouldn't be a bad idea LOL. Good Luck and take care.
Avatar f tn for most the drug is safe enuf///i have a friend hooked on trams///loves her lyrica and took up to 12 a day//gained a ton of weight and it made her slack off..when she takes a bunch of lyrica her speech is slurred/and not so with the trams,..
Avatar f tn A lot of people gain weight from Lyrica. Has anyone gained weight and then been able to lose it again? I've gained 15 lbs and I really want to get rid of this extra weight.
Avatar f tn Lyrica was the last because of the weight gain and swelling. But the nerve pain and hypersensitivity was too much to bare! So I went back on it and trying to lose the weight!! I hope this information has helped!!
680499 tn?1233851308 I also was on Lyrica for about several months. No noticeable weight gain, drowsiness should disappear after a few weeks however, be aware that it can cause confusion and memory loss. This is the main reason I stopped this mediaction. I began having trouble with simple things like the spelling of easy words and not being able to concentrate for long periods of time. If you notice these things talk to your doctor about taking a higher dose at night and less during the day.
Avatar f tn m so sick of feeling like a lab rat! I also worry about weight gain...I am already aware that people say Lyrica causes weight gain which of course I know if the med works it will be one of those things where you choose alleviation from pain vs weight gain. Hope all of you are having a somewhat pain free day...I hope to say the same for myself in the future!
959341 tn?1246884689 Whether a craving for sweets is a side-effect, I doubt the drug maker would admit it. But I did gain weight. And weight gain is my worst enemy. I have fought being over-weight most of the last 40 years. Neurontin works well for some people, so do anti-seizure medications. It is thought that msucle spasms and nerve pain are like having mini-muscle seizures. At least that is what I was told by a Neuro at UVA in Virginia. I now take Baclofen for muscle spasms at night before I go to bed.
Avatar f tn I actually meant Topamax woops :)
572651 tn?1530999357 Actually I haven't had weight gain on steroids, though I've only had 2 rounds thus far. I have to say I haven't had relief of symptoms either, so I may not be opting for the IV stuff again. Steroids have produced the world's reddest face on me, and that's it. That goes away quickly each day. I'm thinking your weight gain is from fluid retention, and will remit pretty soon. Make yourself drink at least a quart of water more than usual to help flush out that stuff.
Avatar n tn I can't answer that authoratatively. I haven't used nor had patient used. However most of my patients have been greatly helped by botox injections.
Avatar f tn Thank you all for your input. I suppose I should give it a few weeks and see if I can get some relief. Did everyone gain weight on this medication? I'm afraid gaining weight will just make my spine issues worse. Will keep you updated...
1187071 tn?1279369698 It also makes me tired which I can handle that one but not the weight gain, I have had problems with my back in the past and when I put on weight my back hurts. I have nerve pain in my face and just pain in my face, what would be the other options I can talk to the dr about today? Would another pill from that line of pills be the same? I am going to talk to him about treatment of the other pain in my face if he don't want to then send me to a pain specialist that can treat all the pain.
Avatar n tn Gabapentin and Lyrica are in the same class of anti-convulsants and have similar actions. However their side-effect profiles may differ somewhat. If you are finding that the side-effects with gabapentin are tolerable then it would probably be best to increase the dose under doctor's advice. There is a long way upwards that you may go with the dose before reaching the upper limit, as Jason80 points out.
372680 tn?1228161610 I have been on cymbalta... was wonderful except for the excessive sweating, it worked great for the pain... I am currently on Neurontin 600, 600 & 900mg (2100mg daily), celebrex 200mg twice a day, it's not as good as the cymbalta but after a year I couldn't handle the sweating anymore. I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis along with PPMS. Haven't tried Lyrica... afraid of the weight gain I'm currently at weight watchers and would prefer something that causes weight lose.
Avatar f tn needless to say, I felt terrible as well.... I made the decision to wean off of Lyrica (2nd highest dose for an adult).... Since then I have lost a "whopping" 48 lbs and currently, I am, FINALLY, an extremely positive thinking, calm and balanced individual!!!! Hope this helps even one person.... Pay it forward! Thank you God.....
653169 tn?1303446369 The dopey feelings usually wear off after about 3-5 days and then you'll feel ok again. I felt like I was taking air when I first started on it because I switched from Lyrica to Neurontin and they are chemically very similar. Neurontin is kind of a weaker version of Lyrica.
