Gabapentin and Lyrica are anti-seizure medications (this class of drugs also reduces neuropathic pain) that effect the voltage gating of calcium channels in the nervous system. Just about all of the anti-seizure medications "can" (but not always do) cause weight gain. These drugs decrease certain neurotransmitters and increase neuronal GABA levels.

I changed drug because the Gabapentin was not controling my symptoms enough nothing to do with the weight gain, I am now on 400mg of Pregabalin and I am try to lose the weight I have gained so far I have lost half a stone in about three weeks. I know that there are many people who feel that Pregabalin also makes them put on weight.

Then comes the isolation and weight gain and eventual weening off until the next bad flare up. It is a drag to have to live this way. I think if I could treat the depression it would be better but have never been able to find one that works well for me. I have tried them all and am waiting for the new NMDA receptor anti depressants to be available. I will research lyrica.

Some users do report euphoria at much higher levels than others, so there is a risk of psychological addiction with these people. Ive been on lyrica and nuvigil fro fibro pain and fatigue, and just found out I'm pregnant. I'm just wondering if anyone else has taken either one of those while pregnant. I've stopped them for i was on only 50 mg of lyrica and about 100 of nuvigil. but I'm still worried, and i feel like I've been hit by a train once again, the pain is almost unbearable, i know my doc personally, have an appt. with him for the 12th.

I was on a lyrica regiment for about 6 months and in regard to side effects, never had any adverse reactions that were of concern. At first the Dr started me on gabapentin (neurontin), but that stuff really messed with me. Within a week, I'd wake in the mornings horribly dizzy..It would take me a couple hours just to get feeling somewhat normal. So the Dr switched me to the lyrica..

However, some medications used for symptom relief can cause weight gain, specifically Neurontin (Gabapentin) and Lyrica (Pregabalin). Steroids can have this effect as well. Many MSers put on weight because fatigue makes them lethargic, so they easily can become couch potatoes. That doesn't sound like you, though, as you get an admirable amount of exercise. I suggest you check with your primary doctor about potential causes of your weight issues.

As far as I am aware anticonvulsants of the gabapentoid class (gabapentin and pregabalin, for example) are known to cause weight gain and hair loss in some people. It's listed in their side effect profile. I use clippers with a number 2 comb to disguise the hair loss...

I admit this drug scares me and I tried the Lyrica route and hate that drug. this was I am told the original Lyrica and Lyrica is supposedly stronger. I sure dont know what the answer is either. So frustrating!

I've experienced weight gain around the abdomen, but I'm not on Lyrica. This is weird for me - I'm a pear type and normally gain weight on the butt and hips. But this last couple of years it's all been around the stomach. Maybe our insulin levels are too high - I know that I have better luck losing weight if I stay off the carbs and try to eat lots of raw vegetables and fruit.

Very sadly ppl in chronic pain have been driven to all kinds sources to treat it. I don't condone buying opiates off the street, especially such a complex med like Methadone. Her risks are very very high! Please do your research. My concern is for her physical safety. Now I'll shut up and answer your question.

I underwent gastric bypass surgery in dec... have lost 84lbs and remain on Lyrica without anymore weight gain. I had stopped the Lyrica also in Dec and restarted in March and have had no issues with regainning weight. If it works for your pain I would remain on it.

A lot of people gain weight from Lyrica. Has anyone gained weight and then been able to lose it again? I've gained 15 lbs and I really want to get rid of this extra weight.

I took neurontin for a while for nerve pain and although it helped with the pain it made me very tired and gain weight. I switched to Lyrica about a year ago and I love it. I never felt "high" from I only take 1 every couple of nights now and it has been a miracle for me. There is NO WAY I would be able to stay off of the norco without Lyrica due to pain. It is a great drug.

I think I have fewer side effects with pregabalin (Lyrica). Like I said, I couldn't take more than 300 mg of gabapentin at a time, without getting dizzy, no matter how slowly I increased. I take 100 mg of Lyrica (=~ 1200 mg of gabapentin, I think!) + 300 mg of gabapentin at the same time w/o getting dizzy.

m afraid to try lyrica because I already have weight issues and a major side effect is weight gain. I have been on lamictal for 4 months and the higher the dose I felt better, but a felt like my mood was suffering like I was getting snappy.

In my opionion I would take the 20lb weight gain over the pain I was having. you could always just try and see if it helps the pain and try to be active so not to gain alot of weight.

However i read that they were treating cancer patients with lyrica for their joint and bine pain ....Could you please let me know if it is safe for her to take lyrica for her fibromyalgia !!! Thank you so much for your time in this matter !!!

I did that a bit with my chronic myofascial pain, tried the lyrica and neurontin, and only took the burning away in shoulder not the pain..plus with weight gain and dopey feeling hard to work so went off..Now just take a lortab. Although am on Ultram ER and it has taken the edge off that pain..

I am back on Effexor (which was hell to taper off of), and pregabalin and fighting hard not to take too much pregabalin to ease the withdrawals. Luckily I have been sleeping quite a bit but I'm awake now and feeling like hell. It just seems like I have been through a year of fighting not to go through this hell and here I end up again.

I took lyrica for fibromylgia, it worked for the pain but the weight gain and my hands and feet swelling didnt. If you read the pamplet that comes with it,, it states it can be come addictive if the patient has an addictive personality. My doctor also had to slowly decrease my dosage when it was discovered I couldnt take it for the side effects.. I think it is like alot of meds, works differently for different people. just be careful and stay under your doctor's care while taking it.

No that is how you should be feeling. Just be careful as it does cause weight gain. Follow a healthy diet and exercise and you will be fine. Also if may cause sleepness, so don't drive to much until you are comfortable with it.
