Common Questions and Answers about Lyrica weight gain side effects

lyrica

653169 tn?1303446369 ve been told the start up side effects on Neurontin are about the same as Lyrica and it took me a little less than a week for that sleepy dopey feeling to subside, and after that I felt ABSOLUTELY normal- like I hadn't taken anything whatsoever. You are on a very SMALL dose, so you'll adjust to it quickly. I'll tell you a funny story- my first week on Lyrica- I accidentally backed out of my garage when the garage door was only half way open.
1187071 tn?1279369698 It also makes me tired which I can handle that one but not the weight gain, I have had problems with my back in the past and when I put on weight my back hurts. I have nerve pain in my face and just pain in my face, what would be the other options I can talk to the dr about today? Would another pill from that line of pills be the same? I am going to talk to him about treatment of the other pain in my face if he don't want to then send me to a pain specialist that can treat all the pain.
1345254 tn?1325918041 I was on a lyrica regiment for about 6 months and in regard to side effects, never had any adverse reactions that were of concern. At first the Dr started me on gabapentin (neurontin), but that stuff really messed with me. Within a week, I'd wake in the mornings horribly dizzy..It would take me a couple hours just to get feeling somewhat normal. So the Dr switched me to the lyrica..
Avatar f tn For me, it is worth the side effects of the fog and weight gain. I have lost 6 lbs this week, but have been really doing the low-card diet seriously. This diet also helps with fibro. Hope you adjust soon...........if you quit, you also need to taper off if you are on a high dose. No quitting it cold turkey....
Avatar f tn A lot of people gain weight from Lyrica. Has anyone gained weight and then been able to lose it again? I've gained 15 lbs and I really want to get rid of this extra weight.
451366 tn?1211304932 I have fibro, but I refuse to use it because weight gain is also a big side effect, which is the last thing I need. But some women with fibro and depression say it is a miracle drug.
1283286 tn?1312911966 i mean if it works with the pain finally and the weird side effects go away, i could put up with the weight gain if that was all . I really hope that something works for you until the problem is solved in a better way !
959341 tn?1246884689 I take Lyrica. I am looking for one that doesnt have weight gain as a side effect. Any thoughts? Thanks!
1415174 tn?1453243103 No, I didn't have any of those side effects. Just the rapid weight gain (which doesn't happen to everyone!) And it did help with the pain a lot. (I was given it during a particularly severe fibromyalgia flare-up.
1088430 tn?1259159773 I used to take Lyrica, gained a little weight, but I was not concerned about it since it was so little. I think on the side effects it says possible weight gain, but diff side effects are felt by just some people. I liked Lyrica, and I'm glad it's helping you, too, so do not worry anymore about gaining weight.
648910 tn?1290663083 i have to say i took lyrica and gained two stone it says in the side effects weight gain and i guess some our lucky not too and some like me are unlikey and gaini feel if you have gained on neuortin which like lyrica you might gain on lyrica i hope you dont its mainly makes you crave carbs like when pregnant just try and eat healthy and if your not on a high dose your prob be ok.
Avatar f tn Maybe the weight gain effects of the Lyrica would be reduced if your dosage was decreased. 75mg 3X a day is a pretty heavy dose. How do you stay awake???
Avatar f tn yes, my wife took it for several months with no ill effects except for fatigue and major weight gain...she's quit taking them and he weight it falling off.
Avatar f tn Hello there, I read you are taking celebrex. Did you know that celebrex has been taken off many drug store shelves. It is not a safe drug. Are you sure it's the Lyrica that is causing your weight gain? If it's the Lyrica that is causing the weight gain, maybe you should stop taking it, but talk to your doctor first. Don't just stop taking Lyrica. Good luck to you.
210982 tn?1280983895 Some users do report euphoria at much higher levels than others, so there is a risk of psychological addiction with these people. Also, as was mentioned, there are attenuate side effects, with memory loss and weight gain being prominent. Read the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyrica and speak to your pharmacist for more info.
333535 tn?1227018609 I was on Lyrica for six weeks. I had terrible side effects - confusion and speech problems - made me sleepy - and it did NOT help the pain either.
634733 tn?1316625992 Gabapentin and Lyrica are anti-seizure medications (this class of drugs also reduces neuropathic pain) that effect the voltage gating of calcium channels in the nervous system. Just about all of the anti-seizure medications "can" (but not always do) cause weight gain. These drugs decrease certain neurotransmitters and increase neuronal GABA levels.
Avatar f tn No that is how you should be feeling. Just be careful as it does cause weight gain. Follow a healthy diet and exercise and you will be fine. Also if may cause sleepness, so don't drive to much until you are comfortable with it.
680499 tn?1233851308 I also was on Lyrica for about several months. No noticeable weight gain, drowsiness should disappear after a few weeks however, be aware that it can cause confusion and memory loss. This is the main reason I stopped this mediaction. I began having trouble with simple things like the spelling of easy words and not being able to concentrate for long periods of time. If you notice these things talk to your doctor about taking a higher dose at night and less during the day.
Avatar f tn Ive looked into Lyrica, seems like weight gain is also a side effect. Is anyone on a good med with minimal side effects? I dont mean to sound vein. Ive recently lost weight. Now gained back from medication.
559187 tn?1330782856 I read the side effects and it seems to not have the same side effects as Lyrica at all. I have been told that both are similar type drugs, chemically. Thanks so much for your valuable feedback.
Avatar f tn t do anything for my pain. I had really bad side effects, weight gain, swelling, falling down the stairs, and I was tired all the time and I was so hungry, when I took my dose I was eating right after that is why I gained 30 lbs on it. Some people is a life saver with this med and some like me it don't do anything for the pain. It just depends on the person. It might also take some time to kick in before you feel the benfits of it. I never did.
491030 tn?1242424766 There are two sets of side effects - a transient phase, of a few weeks; and the chronic side effects that accompany long term daily use. * The transient phase starts with feeling like a space cadet: walking into things, slurring speech sometimes, memory lapses, arithmetic and spelling skills of a stoned monkey, weight gain while on usual diet, etc. This is during ramp up; for most people these effects start to fade after a few weeks to a month or so.
874521 tn?1424116797 I was on Lyrica for awhile, it worked great, I just had to quit because of the side effects. Besides gaining about 40 pounds my hands and feet swelled really bad, I now take Gabapentin 1800 mgs a day. It works but not as good as the Lyrica.
Avatar m tn Lyrica was recently approved for treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder in Europe. Thats why my doctor gave it to me. Xanax put me on a rollercoaster and 6mg wasn't cutting it anymore. It doesn't do anything at all. I feel more stable on 4 mg klonopin but i still have anxiety. I don't want to take Lyrica because of the weight gain. I am extremely self conscious and run 40 minutes a day to try and lose the weight i gained on effexor xr. worst drug ever by the way.
131817 tn?1209529311 The one thing you have to be careful about with Lyrica is weight gain. Recently I have been losing weight like crazy, so maybe putting some on wouldn't be a bad idea LOL. Good Luck and take care.
