I was on a lyrica regiment for about 6 months and in regard to side effects, never had any adverse reactions that were of concern. At first the Dr started me on gabapentin (neurontin), but that stuff really messed with me. Within a week, I'd wake in the mornings horribly dizzy..It would take me a couple hours just to get feeling somewhat normal. So the Dr switched me to the lyrica..

No, I didn't have any of those side effects. Just the rapid weight gain (which doesn't happen to everyone!) And it did help with the pain a lot. (I was given it during a particularly severe fibromyalgia flare-up.

A lot of people gain weight from Lyrica. Has anyone gained weight and then been able to lose it again? I've gained 15 lbs and I really want to get rid of this extra weight.

Lyrica actually helped my pain a bit but it caused me rapid weight gain. Gabapentin makes me sound drunk and I feel foggy, even on a low dose. Glad it's working for you.

I can't answer that authoratatively. I haven't used nor had patient used. However most of my patients have been greatly helped by botox injections.

No that is how you should be feeling. Just be careful as it does cause weight gain. Follow a healthy diet and exercise and you will be fine. Also if may cause sleepness, so don't drive to much until you are comfortable with it.

We came to the conclusion that with one of medications I was on it curved my appetite and then the lyrica was said to gain weight. however, i lost weight. so I wasn't complaining. When I did eat, I just ate right. Lots of natural foods, no processed foods, no nitrates, no soda/caffeine, no hfcs, lots of fruits and lots of veggies.

That's one of the reasons I quit taking it... Well that and the fact that it wasn't helping me... Lyrica was the worst as far as weight gain goes... It actually did help with my pain quite a bit but my doctor took me off of it because he couldn't get my swelling under control while on it... That's how my luck runs though...lol...

I've experienced weight gain around the abdomen, but I'm not on Lyrica. This is weird for me - I'm a pear type and normally gain weight on the butt and hips. But this last couple of years it's all been around the stomach. Maybe our insulin levels are too high - I know that I have better luck losing weight if I stay off the carbs and try to eat lots of raw vegetables and fruit.

I underwent gastric bypass surgery in dec... have lost 84lbs and remain on Lyrica without anymore weight gain. I had stopped the Lyrica also in Dec and restarted in March and have had no issues with regainning weight. If it works for your pain I would remain on it.

i quit taking my gabapentin due to weight gain/water gain whatever. i just didn't like that type of weight gain. have wanted to call to ask for Lyrica but haven't yet. i can sure tell i'm not taking it due to the noticeable increase certain pains.

Gabapentin and Lyrica are anti-seizure medications (this class of drugs also reduces neuropathic pain) that effect the voltage gating of calcium channels in the nervous system. Just about all of the anti-seizure medications "can" (but not always do) cause weight gain. These drugs decrease certain neurotransmitters and increase neuronal GABA levels.

Hello there, I read you are taking celebrex. Did you know that celebrex has been taken off many drug store shelves. It is not a safe drug. Are you sure it's the Lyrica that is causing your weight gain? If it's the Lyrica that is causing the weight gain, maybe you should stop taking it, but talk to your doctor first. Don't just stop taking Lyrica. Good luck to you.

had to stop taking it for other reasons but it seemed better in the weight gain area for me(although I believe weight gain is still listed as a side effect -- you'll have to check). It worked well for my nerve pain though :).

Lyrica (pregabalin) has caused significant weight gain over 18 months or so, but in two very rapid bursts - the first time I started on it and reached a stable dose, and the second time I started using it again, on 450 - 600 mg/day. Weight gain started even at lower doses, however I was substantially underweight prior to using lyrica, so it didn't bother me initially. Fortunately at least some of that is water retention and it disappears fairly quickly.

i had gained about 40 lbs in less than a year. so far, the weight gain has stopped. i also have a heart condition and my cardiologist wants me to lose that weight. i'm TOO TIRED. what else should i try? i've been warned of the lyrica because of the weight gain. should i go back to savella?

Whether a craving for sweets is a side-effect, I doubt the drug maker would admit it. But I did gain weight. And weight gain is my worst enemy. I have fought being over-weight most of the last 40 years. Neurontin works well for some people, so do anti-seizure medications. It is thought that msucle spasms and nerve pain are like having mini-muscle seizures. At least that is what I was told by a Neuro at UVA in Virginia. I now take Baclofen for muscle spasms at night before I go to bed.

Lyrica works better than Neurontin, but scaredmom330 is right about the weight gain. I had the same problem and had to quit taking both. I packed on the pounds and wasn't happy because I had just spent hundreds of dollars at Weight Watchers to lose 25lbs only to watch that money go down the toilet. There are a couple other alternatives that are just as effective. One is Topamax, but you have to be at a high dose- at least 150-200mg. That is what I am at and what I take. It helps a lot.

Lyrica was the last because of the weight gain and swelling. But the nerve pain and hypersensitivity was too much to bare! So I went back on it and trying to lose the weight!! I hope this information has helped!!

Lyrica was recently approved for treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder in Europe. Thats why my doctor gave it to me. Xanax put me on a rollercoaster and 6mg wasn't cutting it anymore. It doesn't do anything at all. I feel more stable on 4 mg klonopin but i still have anxiety. I don't want to take Lyrica because of the weight gain. I am extremely self conscious and run 40 minutes a day to try and lose the weight i gained on effexor xr. worst drug ever by the way.

I also was on Lyrica for about several months. No noticeable weight gain, drowsiness should disappear after a few weeks however, be aware that it can cause confusion and memory loss. This is the main reason I stopped this mediaction. I began having trouble with simple things like the spelling of easy words and not being able to concentrate for long periods of time. If you notice these things talk to your doctor about taking a higher dose at night and less during the day.

I found that it did take away my nerve pain but at a great cost to me, it messed with my memory and I also gained 30lbs in 6 weeks while I was taking it. Im not totally positive that it alone caused the weight gain, but there wasnt really anything else it could have been. As for the memory problems, it seemed like constantly was having my family and friends tell me about conversations we'd had and I couldnt remember many of them.

Sarah, I was on gabapentin and gained about 20 pounds, I stopped taking it due to tighness in chest everytimg I was taking it. My doctor put me on lyrica and it works great for me. It also has a side affect of weight gain but I haven't seen a weight gain, in fact I have been losing weight, but I am also dieting.

The one thing you have to be careful about with Lyrica is weight gain. Recently I have been losing weight like crazy, so maybe putting some on wouldn't be a bad idea LOL. Good Luck and take care.
