lyrica

372680 tn?1228161610 I have been on cymbalta... was wonderful except for the excessive sweating, it worked great for the pain... I am currently on Neurontin 600, 600 & 900mg (2100mg daily), celebrex 200mg twice a day, it's not as good as the cymbalta but after a year I couldn't handle the sweating anymore. I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis along with PPMS. Haven't tried Lyrica... afraid of the weight gain I'm currently at weight watchers and would prefer something that causes weight lose.
1637739 tn?1371688706 Re: meds and weight gain, I'm on 3600mg of Neurontin per day and it hasn't caused increased appetite or weight gain. Lyrica did - it stimulated my appetite and I ate like a pig and had to stop it. Amitriptyline did cause some weight gain initially, between 5 - 20 lbs but after a while it eased off. The first few doses of Cesamet also made me really hungry but that seems to have stopped, and I only take it on nights when my pain is really bad.
959341 tn?1246884689 Hi, the best thing that I can tell you is that neurontin works much the same as lyrica and it does not cause weight gain. I have been on neurontin for about 4 years now and when lyrica came out I talked to my son about it. he is a pharmacist and knowing how I do not like to jump onto a new drug he told me that the neurontin is so similar to lyrica that I should just stay on that drug. every time that I went on a new drug It ended up being pulled off the market.
648910 tn?1290663083 Lyrica is typically much worse for weight gain! I gain 25lbs in 2 months on it, so went back to neurontin, which I can tolerate without gaining weight. But it is marvelous for nerve pain. If you follow a STRICT low-carb diet, you can hold off the weight gain. At least that is what I have been told. Lyrica is wonderful for nerv e pain/neuropathy, at least it was for me. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Since you have chronic pain your likely not getting around physically as much as you were before which can lead to the weight gain. The weight gain can cause an increase in your pain because your bones are having to bear that load. Also some antidepressants can cause weight gain as a side effect. I'm unsure about lyrica. I too take neurontin as well as a narcotic pain med called Norco. I find that neurontin helps with my pain almost as much as the norco.
1345254 tn?1325918041 I was on a lyrica regiment for about 6 months and in regard to side effects, never had any adverse reactions that were of concern. At first the Dr started me on gabapentin (neurontin), but that stuff really messed with me. Within a week, I'd wake in the mornings horribly dizzy..It would take me a couple hours just to get feeling somewhat normal. So the Dr switched me to the lyrica..
Avatar f tn My Dr and I discussed putting me on Lyrica (which I was on a few years ago, but stopped taking, don't recall why) and I called my pharmacist because she told me about the huge side effect of weight gain with Lyrica, it's almost guaranteed, and my pharmacist told me that Lyrica is a dirivative of Neurontin, which has a much lower incidence of weight gain, and they are nearly the same medications. I then decided to go on Neurontin instead.
378810 tn?1201987233 t like the weight gain, the neurontin is the only thing that prevented me from killing myself last year because of the TN pain I was having.
653169 tn?1303446369 I felt like I was taking air when I first started on it because I switched from Lyrica to Neurontin and they are chemically very similar. Neurontin is kind of a weaker version of Lyrica. I've been told the start up side effects on Neurontin are about the same as Lyrica and it took me a little less than a week for that sleepy dopey feeling to subside, and after that I felt ABSOLUTELY normal- like I hadn't taken anything whatsoever.
1396846 tn?1332459510 I've experienced weight gain around the abdomen, but I'm not on Lyrica. This is weird for me - I'm a pear type and normally gain weight on the butt and hips. But this last couple of years it's all been around the stomach. Maybe our insulin levels are too high - I know that I have better luck losing weight if I stay off the carbs and try to eat lots of raw vegetables and fruit.
210982 tn?1280983895 I found that it did take away my nerve pain but at a great cost to me, it messed with my memory and I also gained 30lbs in 6 weeks while I was taking it. Im not totally positive that it alone caused the weight gain, but there wasnt really anything else it could have been. As for the memory problems, it seemed like constantly was having my family and friends tell me about conversations we'd had and I couldnt remember many of them.
1283286 tn?1312911966 Lyrica will definitely make you gain weight and it did not help me at all
Avatar f tn good luck to you with the neurontin and the shot. the lyrica was awful as far as the weight gain. Does neurontin have that effect as well? I am watching my girlish figure and don't want anything that is gonna blow me up....
Avatar f tn Neurontin caused weight gain and I became allergic to lyrica as well as gaining weight. In the past two years after stopping lyrica due to laryngeal edema, I lost 20 lbs. I also started a gluten free diet and dropped another 30lbs. I do much better without that extra 50 lbs. I'd rather deal with the pain than deal with excessive weight. I'd like them to concentrate on the cause of the neuropathy, nothing they have made any attempt at.
1291268 tn?1274810922 I was prescribed 300mg of lyrica per day (was on 1600mg neurontin). I have been getting along just fine on 75-150mg lyrica with no noticeable side effects so far. All things considered I am doing better and feeling better then I was before but not miraculously so. My copay for lyrica is 5X more then neuronton so that hurts a bit more. :-) Thanks again to all!
Avatar n tn Hello - Question is: What other drug or pain relief options are available for nerve pain other than anticonvulsants like Neurontin & Lyrica and Depression meds? Unfortunately it appears that anti-convulsants and depression meds that are used to treat nerve pain can cause hair loss. I take Neurontin for severe nerve pain at disc, low back, legs and feet. Nerve pain started immediatley after sed/ta disc surgery. Have taken neurontin for 8 years.
Avatar m tn Lyrica was recently approved for treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder in Europe. Thats why my doctor gave it to me. Xanax put me on a rollercoaster and 6mg wasn't cutting it anymore. It doesn't do anything at all. I feel more stable on 4 mg klonopin but i still have anxiety. I don't want to take Lyrica because of the weight gain. I am extremely self conscious and run 40 minutes a day to try and lose the weight i gained on effexor xr. worst drug ever by the way.
Avatar f tn t tell if I am having w/d from detoxing off of fentanyl or is it Lyrica. I know it causes major weight gain and I don't need that. I know a girl who has been on it for a year and has my same med. problems. Well she weighed 125lbs when she started and 15 months later she weighs 197lb and likes the Lyrica for her pain but is now having severe joint pain , etc from the weight gain. I already have a metabolic disorder and cannot gain weight. Its very, very hard for me to lose weight.
1159737 tn?1286517257 t find the other, but it has helped a little bit. They also said to take the Neurontin, but I am worried about the weight gain. How many of you gained weight on it? The doctor also said they are noticing more people gaining weight off of Lyrica than the neurontin. Recovery IS SLOW - but I am getting there. I def feel different, and I am glad I had the surgery.
1831849 tn?1383228392 If I so much as look at Lyrica, on the other hand, I gain weight. Each person is different, though, and what works for one can easily be a non-starter for someone else. Some people have side effects, some have different side effects, many have none at all. Both drugs have to be tapered upwards gradually, and decreased gradually when coming off. Another thing to remember is that the lowest dose of a drug is likely to be effective for only a relative few.
