lyrica

Avatar f tn I take 300mg Neurontin at night for Migraine prevention and have gained 5 pounds on it over the course of 6 weeks. I hope that that the weight gain will taper off.
237152 tn?1206651036 s why they start you out on a low dose and move you up over several weeks. I took it for migraine prevention and it changed my taste of everything. I hated it but it is good for migraine prevention and anti-seizures pain etc. I finally adjusted to it, I felt like you at first. I just hate all medication but sometimes you don't have an option.
Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed Verapamil for migraine prevention but I'm also taking Norvasc. Should these medications be taken together? The Norvasc was prescribed a number of years ago by a different doctor for Migraine prevention. It hasn't helped my migraines but I've continued to take it. Since they are both blood pressure meds, I'm doubtful I should take both.
1088430 tn?1259159773 Hi tia1977, I live in Canada, specifically in BC, so in BC we don't really have this sort of problem when it comes to triptans anymore because our government insurance plan recognizes any triptan, in any delivery method (tablet, nasal spray, injection), in any amount, as standard treatment.
1088430 tn?1259159773 Hi! I'm hoping that anyone here who is taking Lyrica for nerve pain will be able to answer something for me...I'm newly on Lyrica (300mg daily) for chronic migraines/headaches and alot of burning that I've been having in my head. Neurologist gave Lyrica instead of Topamax b/c he said there's more than just the migraine issue going on b/c of all the burning. However, it's still officially undiagnosed at the present. I'm having very positive results so far.
1088430 tn?1259159773 I am currently taking anywhere from 300mg to 600mg of Magnesium citrate a day. The recommended dose for migraine prevention that has been proven in scientific trials is 400mg per day (in one trial) and 600mg per day (in another trial)... so, basically, I think that if 400mgs works, then that's all you should take. But, some people find that more is helpful, or sometimes people's doctors will prescribe more.
1036535 tn?1278502599 t had a migraine HA since starting it. I was started on it by my GP for pain, which is back full force-the migraine prevention was just an added benefit (and something I should have done long ago as I generally get a mod-severe HA 1-4 x's a week). Today I also started getting mild twinges like the (possible) TN is also coming back.
1088430 tn?1259159773 I used to take Lyrica in day and Pamelor in night for prevention along of course w/ my aborative (back & forth between Relpax & Imitrex). Lyrcia was causing me to feel "drugged" 1/2 the time so I asked about something else. Have been on Neurontin now and since Pamelor is doing swat for night time am asking about a switch for that next wk when I see my neur again. Thanks again guys...
Avatar f tn I also take a number of medications, including Topamax for migraine, blood pressure meds, Celebrex, asthma medication and diabetes medication. However I have had recurring visual disturbances that only happen at night. I get up in the middle of the night - to go to the bathroom - and the bathroom is covered in geometric patterns, like a checkered pattern or little lacework pattern. It's everywhere, the walls, tub, sink, floor. I feel like I'm tripping on something!
2024985 tn?1328846203 You will eventually come to a risk-benefit formula that works best for you, balancing the need for steroids, either inhaled or oral, with their side effects, with the reduction in frequency of potentially life-threatening episodes. There is no "one shoe-fits-all".
128966 tn?1212772935 hi Shazz, The reason i asked about the stress and depression is that this usually are the triggers for migraine. Aside from Lexapro, it would also be good to relax, de-stress and avoid, if possible, from being depressed. This will definitely decreased your migraine attacks. Have fun:) Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I was stumbling, head swirling, I felt so woozy, druggy plus I have a terrible migraine ( which the migraine is nothing new for me ). But I didn't know if Lyrica is one that you have to get adjusted to or not. I really needed the higher dose, but I can't tolerate these effects, I can't function. My Dr. did do it the right way and gradually increased the dose tho. The first dose she gave me was 100mgs., it did the same, so she reduced it to the lowest of 50mgs.
1132246 tn?1260288259 You are only supposed to take 1 pill in 24 hours but this is the only thing I found that will take away my migraine!! We are leaving for mexico in 2 days and I have my Relpax packed and ready for an attack!! That's how much confidence I have in this drug. I am also taking magnessium and feverfew daily but found that taking 800 mg 2 times a day gave me bad runs. So I am only taking 500 mg a day.
553995 tn?1332018840 Three days after doing it for two days I have had for a whole week of an excruciating cluster migraine turning into neuralgia along both sides of my head and face from my neck and collar bone. Now the neuralgia pain is gone but my skin from the neck to my scalp is burning like I spread ben gay all over it. This is eposodic and won't happen again until I do something else like live life.
768044 tn?1294223436 But, everything on the original list I gave you are common first line preventative treatments for migraine prevention that lots of people who use the migraine tracker take... so adding all of them would be helpful. But, personally, for me, the addition of Botox Injections, Beta Blockers, Magnesium and Coenzyme Q10 to the migraine tracker would be helpful.
Avatar f tn The drugs I am currently on are Advil, Elavil, Ultram, Lyrica and Zanaflex (for sleep). I have cervical spondylosis which started the migraine over a year ago. That was being treated with nerve block injections which worked for a while. More later, have a neice about to leave from a visit.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I am trying to decide what to do next for my chronic back pain. The doctor suggested Lyrica as a possiblity. I am worried about the side effects and how hard it is to get off of it as I read that it is habit forming. I take Klonopin and Imitrex for migraine problems so I am limitied and have palpitations due to a PAC (pre atrial contractions). So, I can't take prestiq or Cymbalta. I can't take Valium or a benzodiazepine because of the Klonpin.
Avatar f tn I was on it before for migraine prevention. Doc had me stop it a month before coming off my birth control.
768044 tn?1294223436 In the Migraines and Headaches Community, tia1977 posted a question asking what the best prescription for migraine prevention was. I think that this is a very interesting question that we probably all want to know the answer to and I still think that there is no simple answer since we are all so individual and unique... BUT! I remembered an article I read called "Evidence-Based Guidelines for Migraine Headache in the Primary Care".
Avatar f tn I saw a headache specialist for this on a regular basis. If I developed a migraine that lasted for more then a week I would see the Dr., who would prescribe a 'burst' to zap the headache. We always found that my headaches would respond to Methergine. I finally decided that because my headaches were under control and the triggers were identified ( inflammation and strain from neck ), I could turn my med. prescriptions over to my PC Physician in order to eliminate so many appts.
1397091 tn?1296576718 I had a migraine start last Monday and tried to tough it out with a few hydrocodon and phenegren. It got worse so I broke down and went to th ER four days later and that nasty lady doc was there. I still have the stabbing pain behind my left eye, it won't go away. Thank God it was put in my charts that I was to be givin stadol for migraines. She only gave me 1mg but at that point I didn't care just needed some relief. She took 1 and a half hours to get to me.
Avatar m tn I was intialkly prescribed Tramadol for the pain, and then Nortriptyline for migraine prevention. I started at 25mg once at night. That decreased the headaches probably about 50% then moved to 50mg at bedtime. That didn't really help the headaches anymore, but I began to notice the side effects. I was REALLY drowsy and I started to have mood swings (I'd be sad or anxious for no reason). So, we decided to go back down to 25mg again. Also...
1218873 tn?1300091216 Twist, I am glad to hear that your doctor finally said to start the lyrica. for me the lyrica worked it just took a few days to get into my system to take the full effect. I hope this makes you feel better and you get the relief you deserve.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking a med prevention for migraine, also to calm my nerves, so if i have anxiety it should help me at least a little. it is amitriptyline.
Avatar m tn Has anybody here tried Effexor extended release for migraine prevention? I read on Dr Hain's website that they use Effexor as a first drug for migraine nowadays. Would be interesting to hear what people has to say about it; side effects, effects, how long you can be on it, the need to up the dosage, etc?
874521 tn?1424116797 t wait to be done with this Lyrica!!! Before the Lyrica I was on Cymbalta and only stayed in that for about a year and had to quit it bc it was making me feel bi-polar, my moods were all over the place and so much crying!! I was definately suicidal, and suffered from bad "zaps" like sticking your finger in a socket except it would zap and jerk me all over especially I'm my head/brain leading to migraines.
Avatar f tn I am 22 years old and am looking for some answers as to why I feel the way I do. My doctors initially thought I had migraine (even though I have had migraines for 15 years and told them it was nothing like a migraine) but changed their mind when migraine medication failed to work.
975514 tn?1324997938 I almost cqnnot live without Lyrica due to my peripheral neuropathy in my feet, thighs, and fingers. I've tried to stop several times, but the pain is too great without it. Lyrica works well on the pain, but does make me sleepy dizzy and sort of wacked out. It's the main reason I'm disabled. Cannot hold a job because I cannot focus well on what I'm doing. The biggest downside is cost. Lyrica supply for me for 3 months is about a $1000 bucks. That's $4000 per year. Yikes!!
Avatar n tn Postural hypotension occurs when the blood pressure dips when you suddenly stand up. Knowing your triggers for migraine will help you avoid recurrences in the future. Relaxation techniques like biofeedback therapy as mentioned by kajama is also effective. Take care and do keep us posted.
