Lexapro low blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro low blood pressure

Avatar n tn I had a similar experience with Celexa, which is a very similar drug (celexa is citalopram, lexapro is escitalopram). I also had low blood pressure (78/58 at one point), and worsening depression, which really wasn't helpful since that's what I was taking it for. I was only on it for 4 weeks though...
233622 tn?1279338505 I asked for something other than Xanax last August and my doc put me on Lexapro. I'm on a low dosage (10 mg). I take it for anxiety/panic attacks. I am now in the process of tapering off of it. In spite of increased exercise and no change in diet, I have put on a large amount of extra weight (that I never needed in the first place :-( ). My stomach has also been starting to bother me within the last couple of months as well.
Avatar n tn Does anyone have the low pulse low blood pressure going on? I have mood swings and I have gotten so fat. I excersize and I don't even eat that much. I used to be beautiful now I hate myself . I really try to just give it to God and not worry but I can't.
Avatar n tn Has anyone else experienced a low heart rate while on lexapro. Took imipramine on/off for 20+ years with the only side effect being heartrate in the 90's - then blood pressure started to go up a little. Went off imipramine and doctor put me on lexapro - now have gained a little weight, am tired, clenching jaw at night, blood pressure back down, but pulse is constantly in the 50's which is freaking me out a little. Have been on lexapro for 6 months now - libido gone also....
Avatar m tn The determination was Orthostatic Hypotension/Low Blood Pressure. Further findings was Dehydration partially causing the Low BP. Now the Sequence of Events Leading to today. 7 weeks ago I was offered a Hot Tub from a friend, the only drawback was I had to move it right away. To put it on my property required a deck (that needed to be built) and set up before the snow/cold arrived. I managed to do this and get the tub operating.
Avatar f tn I posted on another thread regarding blood pressure and heart rate I wanted to start another topic because my low blood pressure has me worried. It's been low for several months but I've been having a lot of anxiety over my health so it's really started to bother me again recently. Today I've had readings of 85/44 and 93/42. I would say it averages about 95/47 on a regular basis. Otherwise, I feel okay just have some lingering sinus/ears/throat issues that have been bugging me.
Avatar n tn Ok, so I can tell you from first hand experience you will know when your blood pressure is too low. I know I experienced extreme fatigue, dizziness, itching legs, etc at 81/58.
Avatar n tn Hi, I dont know what to think of lexapro. I went to the doc for high blood pressure and he said that i am to young to be having these problems (24) and started talking to me about stress. So i told him about some personal problems and he put me on lexapro instead of blood pressure meds (my average blood pressure is 190/110, pretty high) and i dont feel normal. Has anyone else taken these meds, what happened with you when you took it? is there long term side effects, hell short term side effects?
Avatar n tn Hello, I am the one who posted about blood pressure and Lexapro earlier. I am curious, did your blood pressure rise only after several weeks on the medicine, or did it rise right away and stay high for four weeks, or don't you know because you weren't monitoring it that closely? Mine was high at day 1--curious if you had the same or a different experience.
Avatar n tn I take Lexapro and it is working for me. i also take a low dose of trazadone at night. I have found for me, Lexapro is one of the drugs that has fewest side effects. In addition to medication I was able to get some time with a therapist one on one to discuss issues from the past. Neither pills are addictive. That has been my experience.
Avatar f tn Was just wondering if anyone else on lexapro has seen a decrease in their blood pressure? It is not low low but lower then it has been, use to be 120-130 over 75-85 now it has been 98-119 over 65-75.....
Avatar n tn After the first pill, which I took at lunch, I felt nauseous for a while, but then I felt sort of relaxed and a little 'fuzzy-headed' that night. I took my blood pressure (I was curious if it would be really low, and we have a machine since my husband has blood pressure issues), and to my shock it was 155/95 !!?? It never got below 140/90 on several attempts, and that is much higher than I usually get on the machine. In fact, I am usually below 120/80.
Avatar m tn If you read the indications and contraindications for Lexapro , you will note that this SSRI can--rarely--cause either high OR low blood pressure, as well as many other side effects. SSRIs that are better known for causing hypertension are Buproprion (Wellbutrin, Zyban), Venlafaxine (Effexor), and Phenelzine (Nardil): http://highbloodpressure.about.com/od/lifeafterdiagnosis/a/antidepressants.
Avatar f tn I went to my retinal specialist who told me my eyes were fine and that what I was describing was due to low blood pressure while sleeping. So one morning while still half asleep I took my blood pressure---it was normal. Primary care doc says no I dont have low blood pressure, its most likely the lexapro. He prescibed Kolonsopan for my anxiety. and told me to stop taking the lexapro--well me being a skeptic called my phyciatrist and asked him if I should stop the lexpro---he said no...
1797743 tn?1389217285 I have been tired, lightheaded and recently noticed that my blood sugar has been on the lower side (low 80's) and I'm not diabetic. I usually tend to run in the mid 90's. I take my Lexapro 1 1/2 hours before bed. Any information about what's normal with this med would be helpful. I know we are all different, but am I the only one experiencing this? I know 80's is not low, but I've been feeling really crummy lately. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia is the body's inability to properly regulate blood sugar levels, causing the level of sugar in the blood to be too low or to fall too rapidly. Blood sugar, in the form of glucose, is the basic fuel for all brain operation and physical activity, including muscular. If the available fuel is too inadequate, any marginal physical or mental system may start to shut down.

Avatar f tn Today I got my blood pressure checked and it was high on two separate readings, five minutes apart. I'm not on any medications that would cause high blood pressure besides Effexor, and I'm 26 years old, and it's ALWAYS been fine until TODAY. So, my GP told me to quit taking the effexor (and that I should wean, if need be) and started me on Lexapro, 10mg, RIGHT AWAY. Take the full 10mg of Lex -- it's a mild dose, and the dose that works for most people.
1132574 tn?1271676066 Had a a few weeks of anxiety hit me in January when I was having medical testing done. I am 36 and have high blood pressure every time I see a doctor as I just get so nervous when I go to the doctor. They ran tests which freaked me out even more and wham, I was then anxiouss all the time. The tests eventually all came back normal. With that reassurance my anxiety vanished.& I was even able ot take my BP at home with no anxiety.
Avatar n tn If you had diabetes, high blood pressure, or other medical condition that required you to take a pill every day, you wouldn't give it a second thought. This should not be and IS no different. I would just absolutely HATE to see you come back in 6 months, or a year, in dire straights, kicking yourself for making a rash decision for all the wrong reasons. It happens a lot my friend.
Avatar n tn This is a medicine that is for people with high blood pressure. It contains Antihistamine, dextromethorphan Hydrbromide. It is a allergy relief drug that does not increase your heart rate or cause drowsiness. This day has been the best day in ten days!!!! I haven't been tired, nausiated and I haven't had the eye clicks. I just started feeling some withdrawl symptoms so I figured the drug was wearing off. I just took another dose (1 pill) and I will see if it really is doing the job.
Avatar n tn I have been on Effexor XR for the past 2 years. I was taking 300 mg a day with Lamictal 200mg/day and Seroquel 100mg to sleep. The Effexor wasn't working so my psychiatrist wanted to drop the Effexor and replace it with Lexapro 10mg/day. He told me to "just" drop my Effexor dose by one 75 mg pill a day and I would be "off" of the Effexor in 4 days. Yeah, right!!! Having once before attempted to "stop" Effexor, I knew it wasn't going to be that easy.
Avatar n tn After a length of time and MANY doctors visits, I started taking Lexapro and I've been on it ever since. Over the past few months I've been experiencing mood swings, anxiety, etc. so I decided to try something new. My doctor suggested Wellbutrin so for the past few weeks, I've been in the transition. I have felt ABSOLUTELY horrible-like I did back when all this first started. I have had 2 major panic attacks-I haven't had those in years!!
Avatar n tn I lost 10 pounds in one week without any changes except stopping the Lexapro. I am getting my blood sugar under control again. Now maybe I didn't have any ill effects from stopping the Lexapro because maybe I never really needed it. But at any rate, I will never take it again. Anyone having the problems I was having, quit taking the stuff and see how much better you feel.
Avatar f tn I picked up on your comments made last year about high blood pressure, onset type II diabtes and low potassium levels. I have the same problem with energy, spiking blood sugar levels and spiking high blood pressure. I've intoduced lipoic acid for diabetes and L-Cystine, L-Proline and Vit C for high BP and niacin for cholestral levels. Has improved situation but still underlying problem of "spiking" of levels and apparent inability of drugs to really control things.
Avatar f tn For personal (non-medical) reasons, I did not want to begin the SSRI's I'm supposed to take (Lexapro or Celexa) until May, so I've been taking the valium at a very low dose, every day. My Rx is for 2 mg a day, but I've so far only been taking 1/2 a pill (1 mg.) per day - 1/4 in the a.m. and 1/4 at night. When I saw my doctor recently, she was not thrilled that I hadn't gotten up to 2 mg. per day and advised me to do so.
