Lexapro side effects blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro side effects blood pressure

lexapro

1295419 tn?1276826472 Lexapro carries under it's side effects hyPERtension, (high blood pressure) postural hyPOtension, (lowered BP upon changing positions, usually sitting to standing) and tachycardia. If you have only noticed these changes since beginning the Lexapro, I would certainly bring them to the attention of your doctor. They may very well stop when your body adjusts to the meds, but it never hurts to play it safe.
Avatar n tn How long could it take to rid the side effects of Lexapro? My doctor gave me a 3 week supply of Lexapro on Jan. 15th, 2009 because she thought that anxiety was the cause for my uncontrollable blood pressure, but it did not lower the pressure. I have now been off this terrible drug for 13 days and still have terrible side effects. To give you some history, Sept. 2008, I went into the hospital with chest pains, spent the night with all the tests and ruled out a heart attack.

Avatar f tn I started at 10 mg and increased to 20 mg about 1 1/2 yrs ago. The side effects from taking Lexapro are becoming intolerable. I have had severe weight gain, sweating, abdominal discomfort, memory "forgetfulness", absolutely no sex drive, muscle cramps, and the list goes on. The most troublesome effect is a feeling of, well, of NO feelings.
233622 tn?1279338505 That was before the weight gain/stomach issues. I have a close friend that is on it and has no side effects whatsoever from it. Other than the weight/stomach stuff, I have never had a problem with it. If it wasn't for that, I'd still be sticking with it. It is supposed to have the least side-effects, at least that is what I was told. If I find that I'm still having those problems after being off of it for awhile, I may go back on it.
Avatar n tn Did you have any side effects from the BP medicine? I am on Lexapro and my BP is going up and down and is very irregular and the doc gave me some samples of a beta blocker. I am afraid to add one more medication to the mix for fear of more side effects. I am already on 2 mg of Xanax as well as the Lexapro. Please let me know if you had any side effects from the high BP medication.
Avatar m tn However I am concerned as I suffer from high blood pressure and racing heartbeat and now I am afraid to take the Lexapro as I fear its going to worsen my not so good blood pressure and heart rate. Is this a valid cause for concern?  I DONT want higher blood pressure and heart rate.  Should I continue taking the Xanax as prescribed if I dont wish to take the lexa? Also is it possible to just medicate myself on Xanax and skip the antidepressants altogether!?
Avatar n tn Anyway, the first couple of weeks I got some minor side effects - constipation, sexual side effects, foggy feeling (alleviated by taking the pill at night instead of morning). Just be sure when you go off it to wean off it slowly - like over the course of a month maybe or more.
Avatar m tn why should take something that will lower my normal blood pressure and give me side effects.
Avatar f tn I did much better on Lexapro as far as side effects go. You should talk to your doctor again and ask if you might be better off returning to Celexa. I have never been on Cymbalta but I was curious about it. I read up and it sounded like too many side effects for me.
2193833 tn?1339414902 I've tried to persevere like she recommended but the side effects aren't lifting....I'm worried that the anxiety of the side affects is actually going to make me worse & not better! I'm also worried that this added anxiety won't help my bp....however I do feel I really need a med that stays in my system long term rather than just a quick fix calmer which is also addictive....any advice would be welcome especially from anyone that may have had similar probs. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Just researched side effects: "Mood swings and high blood pressure can also be attributed to the intake of HCG." Anyone having these or other side effects such as constipation, diarrhea, fatigue? My mood has been rather odd since I started the diet and HCG. Severely fatigued. Things seem a bit "off". PS: Bodybuilding websites state HCG should be injected intramuscularly. The more I research and learn, the more confused I get.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am the one who posted about blood pressure and Lexapro earlier. I am curious, did your blood pressure rise only after several weeks on the medicine, or did it rise right away and stay high for four weeks, or don't you know because you weren't monitoring it that closely? Mine was high at day 1--curious if you had the same or a different experience.
Avatar m tn I have been on zoloft for two weeks and the side effects are still pretty bad, without any benefits (it seems like it has been two years!). (I have tried lexapro, paxil, and celexa, but zoloft was the first AD I have taken and from my first experience seemed to produce the least side effects for me (although this time seems bad). I know it takes awhile for SSRI's to get working and initial side effects are common. I started taking 25mgs for a week and have been on 50mgs for a week.
Avatar n tn When I started Savella I was coming off Lexapro so either one could have caused the side effects of dizziness, and getting "spots" in front of my eyes. Also it felt like my food sat in my stomach forever! I was nausous nearly all day while taking it for about the first month. I tried eating a piece of toast first but it was really hard to eat anything till almost the end of the day. It was really hard. I never ended up being able to take the full dose. I am taking 25 mg 2x a day.
Avatar n tn I have found for me, Lexapro is one of the drugs that has fewest side effects. In addition to medication I was able to get some time with a therapist one on one to discuss issues from the past. Neither pills are addictive. That has been my experience.
Avatar f tn When a med works, it will have more side effects; it means you're metabolizing it. When you have no side effects, it usually means you aren't metabolizing it and it won't work. The only two meds that ever worked for me were extremely sedating for awhile, until I got used to them. But the side effects were also pretty strong, whereas with meds that didn't work, I didn't have any problem getting used to them but they also didn't work.
Avatar m tn Two possibilities -- you're suffering withdrawal from the wellbutrin, or side effects from Celexa. Quitting an antidepressant abruptly is not advised -- although wellbutrin isn't one of the worst for withdrawal, they can all be difficult to stop taking and usually are tapered off. This is especially true when switching to a med in a completely class.

Avatar n tn I did not fill it because one of the side effects is a decrease in blood pressure. I run a low pressure of 100/60 and feel that I don't want to take anything that would cause it to go lower because that also increases dizziness. I quit drinking coffee, don't drink sodas, and don't drink alcohol. I had another episode the other night which caused me to get out of bed (4:30 a.m.). It lasted 2 hours!...uggh!!
Avatar n tn Hey Babyblue, I am thinking about getting mirena... but there seems to be so many bad side effects people are experiencing.. did you have any side effects at all?
Avatar n tn Took imipramine on/off for 20+ years with the only side effect being heartrate in the 90's - then blood pressure started to go up a little. Went off imipramine and doctor put me on lexapro - now have gained a little weight, am tired, clenching jaw at night, blood pressure back down, but pulse is constantly in the 50's which is freaking me out a little. Have been on lexapro for 6 months now - libido gone also....
847195 tn?1296175247 Does more Lexapro mean it works better with less problems?? Will i get any side effects from more of the dose then i am used to?? What are some bad things more of this drug can do to my body? (ie does it raise blood pressure or things like that..?) P.S one more question on Globus Hystericus (lump in the throat, can't swallow..) I no some of us mentioned that they are on different drugs or whatnot, like myself, I'm on Lexapro.
Avatar n tn I too have suffered from anxiety for years - for almost 20 years was on/off imipramine (25mg/day) and heartrate was always in high 80's to low 90's, no other side effects and it was working, but after time blood pressure started to go up. Dr. changed me to lexapro (gained a little weight), blood pressure went back to normal - usually runs around 102/68, but my heartrate has now dropped to the 50-60's which is freaking me out more.
Avatar n tn Is Lexapro effective for OCD? I know FDA approved it only for depression. Or should I ask for Prozac, which has FDA approval for OCD? Appreciate your response. Thanks.
Avatar m tn If you read the indications and contraindications for Lexapro , you will note that this SSRI can--rarely--cause either high OR low blood pressure, as well as many other side effects. SSRIs that are better known for causing hypertension are Buproprion (Wellbutrin, Zyban), Venlafaxine (Effexor), and Phenelzine (Nardil): http://highbloodpressure.about.com/od/lifeafterdiagnosis/a/antidepressants.
