Lexapro side effects high blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro side effects high blood pressure

lexapro

1295419 tn?1276822872 Lexapro carries under it's side effects hyPERtension, (high blood pressure) postural hyPOtension, (lowered BP upon changing positions, usually sitting to standing) and tachycardia. If you have only noticed these changes since beginning the Lexapro, I would certainly bring them to the attention of your doctor. They may very well stop when your body adjusts to the meds, but it never hurts to play it safe.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am too experiences horrific effects from coming off 20mg Lexapro. But I can't take all the side effects anymore. I wish I knew what to do to stop the vertigo/dizziness but the only thing I can find on internet (but havent' tried yet) is a motion sickness tablet that contains a vestibular suppressant. Only thing I wanted to mention is that a friend/nutritionist has suggested I take SamE as an alternative to the Lexapro.
Avatar f tn I was put on Lexapro about 6 months ago for anxiety. After being on lexapro, I started having problems with high blood pressure. Like usually 150/100 or so. It was so weird to me that all of a sudden for 6 months I was having high blood pressure when I never ever before had any issues with it. Then it started giving me anxiety that my bp was so high. Is this a side effect of Lexapro? Will it go down after stopping? Should I get on a bp medicine?
Avatar m tn However I am concerned as I suffer from high blood pressure and racing heartbeat and now I am afraid to take the Lexapro as I fear its going to worsen my not so good blood pressure and heart rate. Is this a valid cause for concern?  I DONT want higher blood pressure and heart rate.  Should I continue taking the Xanax as prescribed if I dont wish to take the lexa? Also is it possible to just medicate myself on Xanax and skip the antidepressants altogether!?
Avatar m tn What I understand is that beta blocker have usually mild side-effects when they are give to people with high blood pressure... BUT in my case, my blood pressure is lower to normal only and rarely in the high range (only when i'm in a middle of a panic attack or in a situation where I feel trap). So when the blood pressure is already low to normal, then the beta blockers have more side-effects for sure.
Avatar m tn I think they are side effects....either from the lexapro or anxiety or both. I'm taking celexa and remember the side effects. Sweaty, dizzy, drowsy....doctors told me it shouldn't be from the meds but if you read the fine print, you'll find that virtually any side effect is possible and has been reported. I wouldn't get too alarmed...just keep the faith.
Avatar n tn Has anyone else experienced a low heart rate while on lexapro. Took imipramine on/off for 20+ years with the only side effect being heartrate in the 90's - then blood pressure started to go up a little. Went off imipramine and doctor put me on lexapro - now have gained a little weight, am tired, clenching jaw at night, blood pressure back down, but pulse is constantly in the 50's which is freaking me out a little. Have been on lexapro for 6 months now - libido gone also....
Avatar m tn If you read the indications and contraindications for Lexapro , you will note that this SSRI can--rarely--cause either high OR low blood pressure, as well as many other side effects. SSRIs that are better known for causing hypertension are Buproprion (Wellbutrin, Zyban), Venlafaxine (Effexor), and Phenelzine (Nardil): http://highbloodpressure.about.com/od/lifeafterdiagnosis/a/antidepressants.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm a 37 yr old male and who has suffered with anxiety for many years. About 2 years ago, I discontinued taking Lexapro (took for about 8 - 10 years) and have been debating taking it again to help with my anxiety. Last year I was diagnosed with an IRBBB/Incomplete Right Brundle Branch Block. I am concerned about Lexapro and it's cardiovascular side effects, especially QT Prolongation which is listed as a potential side effect.
Avatar f tn this is a sign of heart failure or extremely high or low blood pressure...plz dont hesitate and go!
Avatar f tn Give it more time, but not more than a couple months. When a med works, it will have more side effects; it means you're metabolizing it. When you have no side effects, it usually means you aren't metabolizing it and it won't work. The only two meds that ever worked for me were extremely sedating for awhile, until I got used to them.
Avatar f tn hey, yes i get that pressure feeling to, and im on lexapro, i think its from higher bloody pressure, thats a symptom of high blood pressure, even if you dont generally have high blood pressure, it naturally goes up and down throughout the day and this can be caused by that, i don't think its anything to worry about, i have it most days to, mostly in the mornings or evenings, but goes away after a while when i relax..
Avatar f tn You have a lot of variables going on. Your blood pressure must run high overall? One reading wouldn't necessarily mean it's high. I was offered Lisinopril, I thought it was for high blood pressure, while I was hospitalized for a-fib last fall. I was already on an anti-arrythmic and a beta blocker and a couple of other unrelated drugs. Anyway they offered me Liprinosil and I declined to add yet another drug. My cholestersol is about the same as yours and I'm on crestor for that.
Avatar m tn t have side effects on diabetes its a beta blocker and it treats high blood pressure and it helps people to that have problems with there heart and as well it prevents blood clots
Avatar n tn t know much about heart disease or high blood pressure but let me tell you a couple things I know about this medication. Lisinopril is used to control high blood pressure and water retention. Too strong of a dosage can cause diarrhea which can cause potassium to drop low. Losartan - potassium (Cozarr) is used to control hypertension and might be a better fit for your daughters condition as the side effects are similar. I hope this helps.
Avatar m tn can drinking grape fruit juice effect a person taking high blood pressure medication
Avatar m tn I think you should go back to your doctor and tell him that the medication you are taking is not agreeing with you. There are so many different kinds of high blood pressure medications that surely he can find one that agrees with you. Also, did he tell you that you can control your blood pressure by diet and exercise? There is no reason for you to feel this way when there are so many medicines for your problem.
Avatar f tn Like... they said at 10mg there are very few side-effects and at 20mg there are noticeable side-effects. But, you obviously don't want to change the dose on your own, as this can be extremely dangerous! But, it would be worth talking to your doctor about if the side-effects don't go away fast enough. Although... most of the time... with SSRIs in general I find, it can take 2 to 4 weeks for side-effects to go away and then they're gone for good.
Avatar f tn I am new to this forum and i would like to ask a question about switching from zoloft to lexapro. I have been on Zoloft for about 10 years and xanax for anxiety/panic disorder. I take 125 mg a day. I also take xanax .50 mg every four hours. I also have nerve impingment in my cervical spine and spondolothesis in my lower spine. I need surgery but I am really scared. My question to you is, I am going through a lot in my life, I am 54 years old.
212161 tn?1599427282 Have you been anxious over anything lately, or in pain? My blood pressure was about 167/114 without my meds. After an injury to my upper arm my blood pressure went way up due to the pain. Let me know what it reads today.
1260320 tn?1270394906 Benicar keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Benicar HCT has a diuretic included as well. I have been fortunate, Benicar has worked from the first day I took it and works well still today. My 90 day average BP is 108/67 down from 135/85 when I started. I have had no side effects as well, the best of both worlds!
