Avatar m tn In case someone missed a beat and you weren't told anything, a 3mm stone can cause you a lot of pain, as most stones can, but can usually pass on its own without the definite need for surgery to remove it. I'd be drinking water and then drink more water and then more again.. The water will help it pass and help flush it out, so drink as much as you can handle. If you have been given a prescription for Flomax, get it filled and take it too. That will help the stone to pass also.
Avatar f tn Hi, Kidney stones often do not cause any symptoms. Usually, there is extreme pain, which begins suddenly when a stone moves in the urinary tract and blocks the flow of urine. If the stone is too large to pass easily, pain continues as the muscles in the wall of the narrow ureter try to squeeze the stone into the bladder. As the stone moves and the body tries to push it out, blood may appear in the urine, making the urine reddish.
Avatar f tn I have a 15 yr. history with kidney stones. I had my most recent attack 3 weeks ago and it was one of the longest enduring of any I've had, with the most severe flank and ureter pain lasting almost 12 hrs. The last couple hours of the horrible pain, I experienced what I would almost call spasms very low down, and I've never had that before in any of the other attacks. I had waves of pain and the urge to urinate every few minutes.
Avatar n tn Hi, Renal calculi can vary in size from as small as grains of sand to as large as a golf ball. Kidney stones typically leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many stones are formed and passed without causing symptoms. If stones grow to sufficient size before passage—on the order of at least 2-3 millimeters—they can cause obstruction of the ureter.
Avatar m tn One question - he indicated that I'd know it if I had pain from the stones. A quick google search found that kidney stone pain can be excrutiating. Is it always excrutiating and, if so, for how long? Do you get warning beforehand?

Avatar f tn There are other types as well ( cystine, struvite , uric) Kidney stones may hold a genetic predisposition. In your case, the presence of kidney formers in the family may explain the onset of kidney stones at an earlier age. It is best to open lines of communication with your physicians. At this point, you may discuss on whether a referral to a pain management specialist may help.Continue following physician's advice regarding diet, fluid intake and exercise.
Avatar f tn Finally after she was in excruciating pain a x-ray was done and they found 2 kidney stones in right kidney. They had me give her pain meds for 2 days and the dr's figured they passed. Since then had a couple days that she was in a little pain. Then today started having really bad pain again, and more bleeding in urine. We're hoping they pass this time, and we'll be done with this. We don't have a family history of these, and follow up with the dr. next week.

Avatar m tn Hello, Since the kindey stone is 7 mm, so the symptoms seem unrelated to the kidney stones. Since you are having pedal or leg edema, hence your cardiac, liver and kidney functions need to be assessed for which I suggest you to consult a physician immediately. Abdominal causes like irritable bowel syndrome can also cause such symptoms. Common symptoms include abdominal cramping or pain, bloating and gassiness, and altered bowel habits(alternate constipation and loose stools).
Avatar m tn If gone untreated over a time period such as mine, can stones lead to kidney failure? Any knowledge of this subject would be much appreciated.
Avatar n tn They may stay in your kidneys or travel out of your body through the urinary tract. Kidney stones often cause no pain while they are in the kidneys, but they can cause sudden, severe pain as they travel from the kidneys to the bladder. Most small stones which are less than 5mm move out of the body without the need for any treatment other than drinking extra fluids and taking pain medicine. The average time a stone takes to pass ranges between 1 and 3 weeks.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones and spent four days in the hospital getting pain meds and fluids. I passed what looked like crystals, many, many of these along with some (7) noticeable brown jagged 'stones'. I am now home but am still having severe lower abdomen and lower back pain. Should this have passed by now or should I go back to the hospital. Is there a chance of irrepairable damage from this episode?
Avatar n tn -) (i actually passed several large stones post-surgery without pain meds because I was determined to deliver without my daughter having to go through withdrawals...it was agonizing, but worth it in my case...sometimes that's not possible though. hopefully, however, this will be an isolated incident and you won't have to worry about pain meds later in your pregnancy :-) ). My son is also very bright and healthy and happy..he's 5 months and as sweet as they come...
Avatar f tn I now have multiple kidney stones and a small 10mm angiomyolipoma in my remaining kidney, with CT without dye scheduled for this week. I am experiencing flank pain and discomfort. Has anyone had experience with this type of issue and given the one kidney, possible steps? Thanks!
