kidney-stones

Avatar f tn as long as you have a normal kidney on the other side. Certainly the pain your having could be from ureteral stones, and ureteroscopy is preferred in lower ureteral stones in child-bearing age women because lithotripsy may bruise the ovaries if used for lower ureteral stones. Infection is unlikely as infection and an obstructing stone usually leads to a high fever and is an emergency.
895634 tn?1283992810 Kidney stone often is hereditary so you should ask if any relatives also had kidney stones. Taking pain killers for the pain is not the proper treatment for kidney stones. Taking a pain killer to avoid the pain is not good medicine. It is masking the underlying condition which can be a serious one. A hepatologist is not an expert in kidney disease. They should refer you to a Urologist. A Urologist specializes in diseases and conditions of the kidneys and urinary track.
Avatar f tn I'm not a doctor, but do have too much experience with kidney stones. For me, I'd get pings and pangs in my kidney as well as microhematuria (blood you cannot see by eye) in my urine when I have stones. I've also had the flank pain you describe .. for me it's been in the lower back. I hope with lots of water your stones move out for you uneveventfully. Please keep in touch. From what I've read stones <5.0mm usually move out on their own with a high % of non-complications, etc.
Avatar f tn You may also start to feel unwell with fever. Your doctor should have prescribed you with pain relief for the discomfort of the kidney stone. You may pass it out naturally, but it will hurt as it travels down. The stone can be a very small grain or larger. When you urinate, catch the urine into a recepticle so that you can observe if the stone has come out or not. It may come out like sediment and this can happen until the stone has passed.
1278097 tn?1325615097 Stock yourself up on pain meds I always have a stock of Litalgin just in case. Litalgin is a great pain med and is meant for gallstone and kidney stone pain. Thats all that I can tell you, walk walk walk and pain relief.
Avatar m tn OR that narcotics are just not the proper way to treat chronic pain from kidney stones. The bottom line-- if a person keeps going to the ER to get pain meds, at some point things will go very bad. The patient will end up with untreatable pain, and in need of detox. The docs in the ER HATE to give out narcotics-- not because they are sadists, but because they know that doing so will destroy the patient in the long run, and they don't want to be part of that.
Avatar f tn I'm so sorry that he is having this much discomfort form his Post-op Kidney Stones. I've never had Kidney Stones. However, if they made an incision of any kind, chances are that he isn't supposed to be in a bath tub. Usually they aren't allowed to get that area wet. PLEASE don't laugh TOO loudly at me IF there is no incision as I must emphasize that I DON'T havae a clue as to how they are removed.
Avatar f tn HI, I was diagnosed with mskd in the year 2000, and was told my kidney was completely filled with stones. I then was dropped into a tank of water where they blasted the stones. For 12 straight days I past stones it would happen during the night mainly. It was traumatizing, I filled half of the jar they gave me to collect them in. I've had alot of lithotripsys since then. I still have a little less than half that have not past. I am tired and I don't want to do this anymore.
Avatar f tn Treatment in pregnancy varies individual to individual. For pain relief consult your urologist considering what is safe during pregnancy. Bed rest, hydration, analgesia, stent placement, percutaneous nephrostomy are the possible options. The size of stones, position of stones and your general health condition will help in deciding the exact treatment for you. Hope it helps. Take care and good luck!
Avatar f tn Urologist performed cystocopy (normal), ultrasound (normal with R kidney hydronephrosis), CT scan showed no hydronephrosis but two 2mm non obstructing LEFT kidney stones. I keep having symptoms of what feels like uti that subsides with drinking a lot of water. Macrobid removes all symptoms while i'm on it but they return 2 days after I stop taking them. I don't have any other symptoms, the pain I usually feel is bladder discomfort and pain in urethra, some burning and urgency.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Kidney stones usually pass out through the urine stream with in 48hours. But this depends upon the size of the stone. A 4mm stone has 80% chances of coming out spontaneously, where as 5mm stone has 20% chances. Stones more than this size usually require treatment. Medical management includes calcium channel blockers, alpha blockers etc. Surgical treatment involves shock wave lithotripsy or percutaneous nephrolithotomy or open surgery.
Avatar n tn I too suffer with kidney stones. They usually start with the pain we all know but sometimes the pain feels like you need to poop and when you do its diarrhoea. My doctor said that the pain from the stone causes cramping in the gut and that causes your bowels to react in sympathy to the pain thinking they are the problem. Your mind thinks the problem is somewhere in your gut and it's easier to go to the toilet and poop than pass a stone hence the stomach pains and diarrhoea.
409451 tn?1206900232 I've also been bloated for about 2 months. (Also, my dad has aweful kidney stones) I was referred to urologist, he thinks it's endo, ordered ct scan, but I haven't had it yet...does anyone have any suggestions or similar issues, I'm feeling really lost and confused!!??
106886 tn?1281295172 Just responding to a nice message I got regarding my spouse and his horrible, icky, painful Kidney Stones. Hi Marty, Thanks for the suggestion on pain relief. I had forgotten all about that drug. That's a name from the past, huh? He has Percocet and another drug and he has chosen not to take the Percocet (for me it is constipating and gives me bad headaches, so I might have talked him out of it). He is asleep right now from the drugs actually.
Avatar m tn I have been hospitalized for passing kidney stones twice and have ten stones in the left kidney and two in the right. The doctors tell me I should not be experiencing pain from them until they pass. It always feels like I am passing.
Avatar n tn I've had cysteine kidney stones since I was 16, am now 23. I am also 9 weeks pregnant and I know while pregnant they can't do surgery. But, I have like 5-6 stones in my left side and my right side has some obstruction here lately I've been having a lot of pain, had worse, but still hurts. What options do I have to get rid of the pain while being pregnant? If anybody can help, please do.
Monkey Cause of pelvic pain could be due to kidney stones, pelvic infections, urine infections, twisted ovarian cyst or rupture of ovarian cyst, appendicitis or any other referred pain due to other organ infections. Most of them may not show up on ultrasound. So get all these causes evaluated from a gynecologist to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn Im in the same situation its awful the pain and im waiting for an urologist appointment because they said they couldnt give me antibiotics they did give me pain relief tabs but they dont seem to help just dope me out and I hate that feeling..
342647 tn?1291111533 He was going to give me painkillers at first but after spending five hours in the ER the pain did start subsiding so he opted for Tylenol at this point (wasn't sure what he would of given me instead) and he said that unfortunatley the treatment for stones is pain relief and LOTS and LOTS of water and waiting for it to pass. This really stinks for you and hopefully it will pass soon.
Avatar f tn In the Spring of 2014 however I had an experience with misread cat scans and misdiagnosed kidney stones that caused me months of pain and a urine stream that at times was what looked like pure blood. All of that took place at a VA Hospital and I finally had enough! I did what I recommend you do and I CHANGED DOCTORS and got the proper treatment. In my case, I went to a civilian Urologist and had the necessary surgery to remove the THREE stones that were causing me those problems.
Avatar f tn And this time, I am going to need your support, because I am DETERMINED to get through this without narcotic pain meds. I am only 26, but have had kidney stones three time, including this time. It's excruciating. Yesterday, I started feeling pain in my lower back, and pain when peeing, and it got so severe that my husband had to bring me to the hospital. I told them I thought it was prob kidney stones, and sure enough, it is. GREAT. JUST WONDERFUL.

Avatar m tn I had a CT scan in October (which detected kidney stones) I have had two u/s - one in April and one in July to check for stones. (Stones were the only thing seen). I have had two flat panel x-rays (June/July) prior to each lithotripsy to locate stones. (Stones were the only thing seen). All other tests from my physical are normal. I have an appointment with my PCP next week. I am going to mention endometriosis.
1301089 tn?1290670171 I know this probably isn't the best forum for this but I know all of you and trust you. Also, others have posted about kidney stones here in the past. I have a terrible pain on my right flank. I wake up with it and it only gets worse as the day wears on. It is going on a week now. I've been more nauseated than usual. I also have more severe pain in the bladder and groin area. My Lortab aren't even touching this. I am still on my feet but just barely.. I drink lots of water.
Avatar f tn They will also check ur urine for kidney infection. If the pain gets unbearable, definitely go to ER. You dont want to be in too much pain while pregnant, it can stress baby out. Ive dealt with numerous stones.
422425 tn?1307996590 can't take it anymore because I had a seizure. I can't take any pain meds right now because of severe kidney damage that my docs are trying to deal with and keep me out of dialysis. Any information on natural pain relief would be great!
583644 tn?1221449146 My body tells me it is my kidneys. I have kidney stones, but my GP insists that the pain is not from my kidney stones because they are not obstructing the duct. I asked him if it was possible that my stones were moving around and he told me that kidney stones do not move around and they do not cause pain.
1310243 tn?1275917006 Have you had urinary track issues considered? Sometimes kidney or kidney stone pain can radiate to your upper right abdomen. I think you need a physician that will think outside the box. It sounds like so far the medical professionals are looking at the obvious possibilities. I am far from an expert and you may have had these options investigated already. But again please let me encourage you to continue seeking definite answers. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone... Okay,so for the 7th time this year I have kidney stones again - I am a 20yr old female (and I live a healthy life) ...
