Avatar f tn No i don't have any other pain conditions. Just stones and kidney infections as a result of the stones. I take antibiotics about 2 weeks out of every month to keep the constant infections at bay which i can't imagine is good. Im assuming he refferred me to the pain mgmt dr because he's afraid of prescribing pain meds on such a regular basis. I can understand it but its still not easy for me because I'm uninsured and can't really afford to add another dr to the mix.
Avatar n tn they have to take leave to send me to hospital, they have to use their money for treatment that was exceed my insurance allowance. i can say, from the passing kidney stones until the removal of stent, i was suffer so much!
Avatar n tn The big dilema is that I've had a kidney transplant about 12 years now and I don't want to jeopardize my kidney for HEP C treatment if I don't need to. Can anyone lead me in the right direction as to where I can look up similiar cases. My doctor wants to treat but with lower doses. PLEASE HELP!!!

Avatar f tn If you also suffer with reoccurring kidney pain whether you are passing stones or not...please respond as I am relieved to know I am not the only one. Beginning to think that I would never find someone that can identify with me. I would like to exchange information with another woman that has been experincing similiar symptoms. Thanks for your time in advance.
Avatar f tn Even though I have stones in both kidneys I rarely have pain in the left. However my right kidney seems to hurt whether or not I have any stones. The pain just seems to be constant and just never goes away, it just gets worse when I'm acutally passing a stone. I guess that seems to be the biggest issue for me right now, just controlling the pain in my right kidney. The stones are pretty small, usually around 2 to 3mm with the last one being around 4.

Avatar f tn This is one of the most difficult things I've ever had to deal with. My beloved Gypsy is dying of kidney failure. Gypsy is a Jack Russell Terrier and she turned 18...yes 18...on Christmas Day. It's just so hard to know when it is "time." I prayed and prayed that she would give us one final parting gift and die on her own in her sleep...but she is SUCH a fighter and refused to surrender to this thing.
Avatar n tn anyway she has had a problem with calcium kidney stones in the past and about a year and a half ago she had surgery to remove a lot of stones from one of her kidneys and some how that kidney lost it`s funtion so she only has one that is working they told her that it would be dangerous for her to have any more kids but she would like to have another one so we are looking in to options we were wordering if there was a way to have ababy without putting her or the baby at serious risk,
1963554 tn?1325451090 He said that his right kidney is destroyed and that his left kidney has about 25% left. He has a tumor within his bladder and his urine cannot pass thru which goes into his kidney and damages it. When we had Shaggy checked out in May our vet said that it's UTI...because I mentioned to him that he'd pee and then go to other spots and nothing comes out. So he was given anti-biotics. This went on for several months.
1522652 tn?1291241954 I know that there is a link beginning with my chronic uti's as a child, to my severe pms as an adolecent into adulthood, and then on to my chronic kidney stones and infections as an adult, and then the loss of my kidney, as well as the problems I'm experiencing now. My question is what specific tests do I need to request to accurately check my thyroid, parathyroid, and my calcium levels? Also, are there any specific questions that I need to ask.
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
1916673 tn?1420236870 Higher than normal potassium is not very unusual in kidney disease, but it is important to discount other potential causes - including kidney or urinary tract stones. An ultra-sound and white blood cell (WBC) count will help identify if stones are a problem. Phosphorus is also too high. Dogs acquire phosphorus directly from food, and normally (in healthy dogs) any excess is excreted through the kidneys.
489228 tn?1291535054 There are some doctors who don't believe it works mainly because they don't believe you can have pain from stones in the kidney. Dr Wolf performed the surgery on me personally last Aug. He will perform it on those that he thinks medically qualify for needing it if you are willing to go to Michigan. Several others have had their doctors do the procedure within the last year as well. AFTER MUCH PERSONAL RESEARCH I WOULD HAVE TO RECOMMEND DR WOLF'S PROCEDURE OVER LITHO...
Avatar n tn There is no treatment really, you just have to wait it out. Use a donut or other type cusion, you can alos use a phone book and just hang your tailbone off the back.
Avatar f tn The rest of the practice has doubts about the number of kidney stones that I have and the amount of pain meds, IV, zofron that I need on a monthly basis. He told me that they now will need proof of a stone through a cathader urine sample and/or and ultrasound to see the stones. If there is nothing there, they won't treat me. My problem is that most of my stones are very small and don't show up on the cat scans much less an ultrasound...
Avatar n tn I WAS DIAGNOSES WITH MODULARY SPONGE KIDNEY, I AM 34 YEARS OLD, NO KIDS AND I AM VERY CONCERNED IF MSK WILL TENDS TO KIDNEY FAILURES. WHAT KIND OF RECOMENDATIONS YOU WILL GIVE ME TO PREVENT KIDNEY STONES AND IF MSK IS DANGEROUS OR NOT. THANK YOU. MS. DIAZ. This discussion is related to Medullary Sponge Kidney.
Avatar n tn You can also get nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test done. Other causes could be kidney stones which should be ruled out by getting an ultrasound abdomen done. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn Depakote (causes weight gain),Dilantin (gum, liver problems) Lamictal (rare severe rash), and Topamax (kidney stones)are meds that can possibly help depending on what kind of seizure you have. At this age, we would think of a condition called juvenile myoclonic epilepsy which is a syndrome composed of grand mal, absence (brief sparing spells), and myoclonic (jerks especially in the morning on waking) seizures.
Avatar f tn The best way I had it described to me is that movement from the stones is going to cause pain regardless of whether they are in the kidney or ureter. The ureter spasms during stones and cause pain with the biggest being 5mm before they have to do surgery. Basically with having so many stones so often when material passes its going to inflame and cause pain, regardless of whether its in the kidney or elsewhere.
Avatar m tn It's insane how many doctors don't do their jobs, so that gives a better chance of finding someone good. Did the current urologist give you any sort of treatment or pain medication for the kidney stones? If so, did they help at all? By "butt doctor" did you mean gastroenterologist? If so and that doctor was no help... totally go see another one. I'm pretty sure that most of them are suffering from brain damage.
587521 tn?1238508522 I have had very few bad days since my surgery in mid-November, to remove the painful build-up of stones from the collecting ducts of my left kidney. I recently (last night) passed two stones both less than 1mm. But my days without pain greatly out number my days with it. This is such an incredible change for me. I have posted some of the photos that were taken during my surgeries (the first attempt was canceled because my ureter was too narrow.
Avatar f tn Honestly at first we butted heads, him telling me my kidney DID NOT HURT!, Me telling him, my kidney that is not supposed to hurt is sending me nasty messages..., LOL. Now I think he is the greatest and he is one of my advocates! The thing that surprised us for me was the chronic pain went away when he put me on long term antibiotics. At first he did so because we thought I had chronic cystitis, but my bladder did not respond to them only my kidney.
Avatar n tn Was there a previous trauma or injury in your back? Kidney infection or kidney stones could present as blood in the urine and back pain with painful urination. However, if there is pain when twisting, bending or even sitting, this could be from muscle spasm or pulled muscle. Apply warm compress or use an anti-inflammatory medicine for the pain and get rest. If the pain persists or if your symptoms get worse, it is best to see your doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
1223946 tn?1281395958 I can also give you pdf articles to take to your doctor on the pain with stones or nephrocalcinosis in the kidney. Hi and Welcome!! I am so glad you came there is so much good information on this site for us. Really we work together to network information to help one another. Doctors, I should rephrase that most doctors do not understand why we have chronic pain even when no stones show in the ureter and no infection shows up with on UA.
Avatar f tn If you see a pain doctor, you need to tell him about the kidney stones and talk about whether they want to handle your kidney stones or if they want the urologist to treat them. Fibro can be a tough disease but narcotics are not the best way to treat it. Meds like Cymbalta' Lyrica or Neurontin are more effective for that type of pain. I've had fibro for over 13 years and personally found diet and exercise is best for fibro type pain.
Avatar f tn I actually called Dr, Wolf from the University of Michigan as he performs a surgery that lasers the calcifications in the kidneys which is not s cure, but is supposed to be a treatment to reduce the number of stones passed, reduce the amount of flank pain due to the MSK, and hopeully will also help with the UTI's.
489228 tn?1291535054 They also blasted my 2 largers stones in my left kidney. I had NO STENT! He said he ususally only does one kidney at a time, however we had no insurance so he did both. He also warned us they usually when doing both he uses a stent however he was able to avoid if becuase there was not much bleeding. I have had little to no pain on the left and the right only more instense then before surgery for the first day or two!..
168348 tn?1379360675 I am a healthy 47 yr old woman with a strong history for other atypical cells in the way of moles that are not melanoma but atypical and re-excised to the margin, atypical colon polyp, and atypical urtethrial cells that are inflammatory in nature and not bladder/renal cancer (they are from many many kidney stones along with a condition known as MSK which is medullary sponge kidney and they are stuck in the medullary of the kidney ..
Avatar n tn I had hydrponephrosis twice when I was pregnant with my daughter because of kidney stones, and I was on antibiotics and pain meds and my daughter turned out absolutely fine (delivered at 40wks, healthy weight, absolutely no problems mentally or physically so far...she's about a year and a half old now and very smart and healthy). So I would definitely not worry about the pain meds....taking them is better for her than not taking them.
