Avatar m tn Hi, Lithotripsy is the most common management for kidney stones. The recovery time is usually short and after treatment, you may have blood in the urine and even abdominal pain or aching for several days. Oral pain medication and drinking lots of water will help relieve symptoms. It is important that you check with your doctor first for evaluation before removing the stent. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn As far as I know, these are the only treatments - http://www.mayoclinic.org/kidney-stones/treatment.htm "Watchful waiting About 85 percent of the time, kidney stones are small enough to pass during urination. This occurs usually within 72 hours of the start of symptoms. The best treatment for these small stones is to drink plenty of water (as much as 2 to 3 quarts per day), stay physically active and wait to pass the stone.
Avatar f tn I myself have had a lithotripsy and it's quite easy and painless, and the recovery time is very short, as opposed to cutting into your body which exposes you to numerous risks. You may be able to request that they use a basket to go up through your ureter and bladder to remove the stone instead, but they have to do different surgeries or treatments based on the type of stone, which they can determine to a small degree by HOW the stone is discovered in the first place.
503291 tn?1229423121 I'm in a similar stage of things, myself (ultrasound results came back today -- "several" stones, but I've no clue of exact numbers nor size, and the gallbladder itself apparently is a wee bit tattered from the passage of earlier stones, but nothing terribly horrid; my GP is hooking me up with a specialist in the next few days/weeks for the next step) and as far as I can tell, there's four primary methods.
Avatar f tn i began taking percocet about 2 years ago to help with kidney stones and endometriosis pain. 1 to 4 percs a day as needed. after sometime the percs were not helping so i asked my dr for something else. He gave me 10mg oxycotin. i had the script filled 3 times, once for surgery. when i was done with the oxycotin. I went through severe withdrawal, started with depression and quickly progressed into my worst nightmare.
Avatar n tn Other causes include bladder stones, ureteral stones, and interstitial cystitis Bladder stones are uncommon in women particularly young women with sterile urine. They can cause slowing of the urine stream and forcing to urinate. Though rare, a urachal cyst might be a consideration. Ureteral stones can cause urgency and frequency with small volumes and yet the urinalysis is clear. You might also consider a problem outside of the urinary tract, such as spastic bowel or diverticulitis.
Avatar f tn I'm a 47 year old male that had sepsis and multi-organ failure. I'm a trainer and am having a hard time with this slow recovery...I was in the ER Dec. 12 and out Dec 24, 2009. When I entered the ER, my bp was 60/40, hr 184 and a fever of 104.5. They thought that I wouldn't make it. So glad that I did! It is now Feb 16, 2010. Any idea what kind of recovery time I should expect? I feel that that I am 50 plus % of my old self right now...please advise. Thank you!
661200 tn?1225486613 -) I know I just bombarded you with a whole lot of information, and I hope you'll speak to your vet about how to balance treatment for the CHF and kidney failure as best you can. Comfort measures are the best that can be offered now, and you'll need to know exactly what those are. God bless you. The next weeks and/or months aren't going to be easy, so enjoy the time you have left.
1832268 tn?1326819610 Breed, Age, Symptoms, Creatine, Bun, and Phorsphorus levels at time of first exam that revealed Kidney Disease, as well as End Stage Symptoms and Lab Values ( if known. ) How Quickly did the disease progress. Did the dog die naturally, or was the death assisted. I think this type of information would be very helpful to anyone and their dog, who has to deal with this disease.
Avatar f tn i have also had to make the choice with my own pets.. i had a cat who was dying of kidney failure... i didnt know what the right time was either even though animal medicine was my feild... but after a lot of soul searching i decided that when his suffering out wieghed his quality of life then it was time to go.. unfortunatly there is nothing much you can do in animals with late stage kidney failure... and it can be quite uncomfortable to have, it causes pain and nausea.
1963554 tn?1325451090 I also had my beloved cocker of 16 years get kidney failure. From the time she was diagnosed I could not bear to think of having her put to sleep. She had helped me raise my three daughters who were 2, 5 and 6 when she came to live with us. She was like my other child and with me, often, when no one else was. I knew at the end of October the year she was diagnosed that she was very sick, but did not seem to be suffering, although her quality of life was so diminished.
Avatar n tn 07:26: Hi Doctors, Hoping you'd be so kind as to answer a few more questions for me. I have a neurogenic bladder, no urgency am not able to void on my own. I self cath about 8 times per day. My goal is to have less than 500CC at a time. Have chronic UTI's and also kidney infections. Had an IVP done about a month ago and it showed a small stone right where the ureter curves. Dr. did a cystoscopy and something else to remove stone with a cage.
Avatar f tn I think it must vary with the individual - 3-4 days of at-home recovery seems awfully short, though. Give yourself whatever time you need. Good luck to you!

748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.

1916673 tn?1420236870 I will post the blood panel results to you then. Enalapril was prescribed the very first time the vet said he had kidney disease. He said to give him one pill per day. I didn't know enough to ask him if it's for high blood pressure. Also, the vet didn't say he's at stage 2, I found that on the internet...I will ask about all these things on Wednesday.
477746 tn?1254788147 I have however had kidney stones and know the pain they can cause and I just recently had to experience that again, which I got through without taking prescription painpills because the otc motrin kept the pain from being too severe.Right now I am dealing with diverticulitis again, and I have had a prescription for vicodin for nearly a week now, that I haven't filled as of yet,but if the pain becomes too much I will fill them and will give them to my son to lock up and only give to me as needed.

Avatar n tn I'm not sure how long recovery time is but I assume that it is atleast 6 weeks(the usual time people are in a cast for broken bones)You may have to go back to the doctor and get a note to keep you off work for a short time so you can do more ice and heat and rest. Does your work give paid disibillity for medical problems (not on the job injury)? Good luck with your healing process.

Avatar n tn Kidney/Urinary Stones I've had lithotripsy twice for kidney stones,90 and 98. Now I have them again and after going through a number of tests lithotripsy is not an option because I have a diverticulum (pouch) in the kidney and the stones are in it.Because of the location PNL is not an option.Only open kidney surgery to remove that part of the kidney. My whole life I've had repeated infections.I'm scared to death of this surgery.Nothing is blocked and I'm not having any pain right now.
