Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain after new crown

Avatar n tn I have posted previously about pain over my front teeth after after having a porcelain crown over the second to the rear back tooth. I have recently examined my mouth and gum areas and am fairly certain that my right front tooth is now sticking up and has shifted slightly. They are tight together and when I tilt my head up I can see easily where they are no longer aligned. I clearly remember my teeth being straight before. Is this at all possible?

Avatar f tn crown became very sensitive and now the new crown is hurting..When the crown was placed on it I about jumped out of chair from the pain..They said it should go away but right now it is still hurting.. My friend said that I may need a root canal.. In which I wont have have, LOL..Dentist not my best friend... Has any had this problem and does it go away?
Avatar n tn THe pain continued so the dentist removed the crown and gave me root canal treatment and fitted the permanent crown. The pain has continued. It is a dull continual ache that extends into my ear and jaw. Reading blogs online it seem that the nerve in my jaw may have been damaged. Anyone gone through similar experience? Do I need to go back to my dentist or to a neuro doctor?
Avatar n tn There was a cavity that the dentist was going to try to just fill but he said it would be better to go with a crown because I would probably need one in a couple of years anyway. The temporary crown was perfect. No pain whatsoever. The perm. crown was ok for about a week. Then it started to hurt when I would chew on that side. There was pain in the tooth and in the jaw area. I went back to the dentist and he said my bite was off and filed it down. It still hurt.
Avatar f tn it always hurts.. its a throbbing pain.
Avatar n tn Feels like a nerve thing as main area of pain is lower front of jaw and at hinge of jaw when temp is in upper right jaw. Any suggestions or thoughts??
Avatar m tn Dentist put in temp filling for few week - extremely painful for few days, gum went white underneath and lots of pain in the jaw / gum but no pain in tooth (prob due to LT problem with TMJ). I returned to dentist for crown prep and she said that due to this problem with temp filling and fact that hole went close to root cavity I may need RCT.
Avatar m tn This was extremely painful for a few days, the gum went white underneath and there was a lot of pain in the jaw / gum but no pain in the tooth. I think this was due to long term problems I have with TMJ but cleared up after a few days. I returned to dentist for crown prep and explained the situation. She prepped the tooth for the crown and said that due to this problem with the temp filling and the fact that the hole went close to the root cavity I may need RCT.
Avatar m tn Based on the information provided, it appears that you develop thermal sensitivity after a new restoration, which is a temporary or final crown. In dentistry, we tend to use the term " final", instead of permanent, because nothing is permanent other than tax and death. The most common culprit of thermal sensitivity after new restoration is occlusal interference, if there is no carious lesion or periodontal pathology present.
Avatar n tn I had a huge filling taken out of my tooth and never felt any pain. Core crown build up around the tooth and a temp put on, never had any pain. A month later he puts the permanent crown on, I feel drastic pain. If the dentist puts the crown on, make sure he does you occlusal right. I never knew if an occlusal was not done right, it could cause alot of things in your facial area to go wrong. Including TMJ. good luck. ps make sure you get a good dentist or expert to do any work.
Avatar f tn I wouldn't say its normal after a crown fitting but I wasn't providing treatment so I don't know what else may have happened to cause it. As long as the swelling is gone, I would leave it alone and just watch for any worsening symptoms. The swelling may be due to the anesthetic fluid from the injections. It should go down pretty rapidly if that's the case.
Avatar f tn One way of figuring it out is to replace the temp crown and either make a new temp crown or put the permanent crown on temporarily to see if that fixes it.
Avatar f tn I have developed a blue spot on the chewing surface of the tooth. I am facial pain around by jaw and ear. I had jaw surgery 10 years ago with plates and screws. Could the jaw pain be from the plates and screws in by jaw.
Avatar n tn The dentist flossed around the crown and between the tooth with the new filling and I instantly felt pain. The pain goes all the way down to the jaw. I told the dentist and he said it should go away in a few days. I do not understand how it felt fine before, and now it is in pain. I would appreciate any help because now I am fearful of going back.
Avatar n tn Doctors, your advice would be very much appreciated. Several weeks ago, I went in to see my dentist for a new crown. After the first injection of anesthetic didn't take, he injected me with another. In the process, a shooting electric like shock went through my lower jaw. He explained this was because he had hit the nerve but it would be alright. Since then, I have been back to him complaining of pain in my teeth along my lower jaw. The only relief I get is from ibuprofen.
Avatar n tn Is it normal to have pain after a Cerec crown? I just had one placed yesterday on tooth #15. A corner broke off while I was eating. Initially, I was told that I had two options---a crown or a filling. I was told by the dentist that a crown, while more expensive, would be more stable. I was told the benefit of the filling was the cost. My jaw on this side of my face feels tight and really hurts. It is also a little bit puffy compared to the other side of my face.
Avatar n tn The first month the crown was on it felt perfect. I get a quick pulsating pain, and itchy feeling around the crown. Near the gums. It feels like the crown just isn't a perfect fit. If I chew on the left side, my gums feel a burning sensation. Like the crown is digging into it. Could I be allergic to this crown? Could there be too much cement under the crown pushing on my gums? Any idea on what the problem could be? Help!
Avatar m tn Following the crown procedure (2 weeks after) i experienced intermittent pain in the previously healthy tooth (#9) and had to embark on 3 weeks of treatment / draining etc. due to abscess formation. The tooth was left 'open' for 2 weeks during this time to to the infection which eventually subsided. The RCT on this tooth was finally completed 3 weeks ago and has been fine since then.
