Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain after dental procedure

jaw-pain

Avatar f tn t think I needed a root canal at this point but that during the dental procedure, the ligaments in my jaw were pulled (it was a long procedure, I have a very small mouth and she did a lot of jerking on my jaw) which changed my bite. He filed a tiny bit on the back molar and took the pressure off those teeth, which immediately made a big difference. Now, however, the area where the pressure was shifted to has started to ache off and on.
Avatar m tn I am in sooo much pain I can die. 3 days ago I was suppose to finish a root canal procedure my tooth is infected, I asked the dentist to numb me due to severe pain the first time it was done. When she did she inserted the needle into the top of my jaw, my tooth is on the back bottom left side of my jaw. Through out the whole dental procedure i didn't get numb and to my surprise it didn't hurt.
Avatar m tn I too have dizziness after lower jaw dental work. I think that if you get enough drug in the injections to numb your jaw it also numbs your ear and causes dizziness. The ear nerves just can't give you the feedback to feel stable or something, (but what do I know?). I suspect this is fairly common and I don't understand why Dentists don't discuss it. It is a creepy feeling and I need to have someone drive me home after a lower filling. It goes away after a few days.
Avatar n tn ve had any type of valve replacement you need to be on antibiotcs BEFORE the dental procedure and continue taking them after the procedure (for as many days as your dentist prescribes). Have you warned your dentist of your condition? If you have and he hasn't put you on antibiotics I suggest you see a cardiologist and have them prescribe them to you.
Avatar n tn it seems somewhat a coincidence that they would swell after such an invasive procedure and not have something to do with it? Is there anyway they could possibly be linked? I'd really like to think they will resolve as the healing of the implants take place... I'm currently on amoxicillin which i started taking the day before the procedure, and metronidazole which i started taking friday afternoon. Thank you for any help or advice.
Avatar n tn I have pain when I try to brush my teeth, and if I try to push my lower jaw out to line up my teeth there is pain near my ear. How do I get my jaw back on track so to speak?
Avatar n tn The next day I was in pain, and the pain continued to worsen, including some pretty severe jaw pain. The dentist adjusted the bite, then assumed it was infection, so put me on 10 day penicillin. Nearing the end of that, I developed swelling on the outside gum, the dentist put me on 7 day clindamycin. The swelling has decreased, the pain is nearly absent, but with 2 1/2 days left of the antibiotic, I have been feeling "twinges" in the tooth.
Avatar n tn Sometimes the trauma from the procedure can cause inflammation of the pulp, resulting in pain. Sometimes the pulpitis is reversible, sometimes it isn't. If it isn't, it will require a root canal.
1175033 tn?1492201228 A death in the family, job loss, and I have Gastritis and had a scope procedure to check on my gastritis. Before the scope procedure my jaw was giving my grief in its self. The popping was its worse ever, yawning was terrible and I thought my jaw was going to dislocate it was getting so bad. So my mom told me to try to not open my jaw to that point and don't let it pop. That is what I did, and at some point my jaw quit popping all together....
Avatar f tn after a routine dental visit my jaw was just sore from the shot that I got in my lower and 5 weeks later I cant open my jaw/mouth more a quarter of an inch without horrific pain.it seems to be getting worse I have gone to the dentist and the doctor it is not TMJ and I am on naproxin and pain killers which dont even help. Nobody seems to know what is wrong does anybody have any answers.
Avatar f tn I have had 4 nightmares of this dental procedure and the pain that I have had. I am a very forgiving person but I am concerned about how this isn’t healing. I still have holes in both sockets of the teeth she pulled, a gash in my gums, jawbone exposed which is causing a lot of pain even with just breathing. Do I just need to give it more time or are they just trying not to get into trouble because of the mistakes they made? What should I do?
Avatar n tn The new protocol from the Heart Association and the ADA is that people with MVP do not any longer have to be premedicated before dental treatment. As far as your pain it sounds like you have had proper treatment and it is possible that that tooth can not be saved. I would consider going to a dental school that has an Endo department and getting an opinion from them.
Avatar f tn i have an implant and it was very sucessful. i was a bit scared when i had a nerve pain shooting from my jaw for a bit of time but that went away thankfully There are a lot of nerves there so get a realllllly good surgeon to do it. you might want to ask about bone density issues if you have osteoporosis since they are putting a post in the bone.
Avatar f tn I have slight jaw and tooth pain and war paint. Dentist prescribed antibiotics for 10 days and I started the corse yesterday and going to continue it after the surgery to prevent infection. I am very scared of this procedure although so many people have gotten it done. I have extreme anxiety and this is causing it o sky rocket. My dentist sedated the patient which I'm glad about due to me not wanting to actually be aware of what they are doing.
Avatar f tn You should contact the clinic where you were treated. They should have an after-hour emergency covering doctor. If you are truly having difficulty walking then you should go directly to the emergency room. Disturbances in balance and gross motor following your procedure is not normal and needs to be promptly investigated.
Avatar f tn It is wise NOT to wait for a dental implant the bone in your face where the tooth is missing will deteriorate for some dumb reason the bone begins to go away and your face will looked caved in . Look at the old people with dentures, they take out there dentures and there face looks sunken in The dental hygienist called it "face collapse. The best thing to do is if you have tooth extracted wait a month tops and if you have enough bone get an dental implant ASAP ..
Avatar f tn Right around the time I went back for the fillings, the pressure/pulling in my neck/jaw had returned and I told the dentist that and after the procedure was given a 2nd round of antibiotics. After a couple days, the pain all went away and I thought everything was fine. Then about 2 weeks after finishing the 2nd course of antibiotics, the pressure/pulling sensations in my lower jaw, ear and neck all came back.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I have been having this jaw pain for almost 2 weeks now. I had a tooth filling and after 3 days, I felt mild pain in my jaw. and felt fever-ish, weak So I went back to the dentist and did an x-ray but she can't find anything wrong with the tooth filled or any abscess..so she gave me antibiotic-amoxicillin and took 200mg of Ibuprofen for pain. But after 3 days, I had a bad reaction to Amoxicillin.
Avatar n tn To make a long story short, I was finally diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndromd, and after about a week of medication to block the nerve pain, I was cured. The trick was that I found the right dentist/MD, Dr. Piper. He helps people with minor problems like mine, and people with very severe, long-standing problems. I was lucky to only be a few hours drive from him. But, he has many happy patients from all over the world.
Avatar m tn Last Tuesday, I had a root canal performed on a lower molar on the right side of my jaw. (Number 30, I think) According to the Doctor, it went very well and I am lucky as I have/had low discomfort. There was some tenderness and stiffness from the procedure but very, very mild. I didn't even bother to take over the counter pain meds. In the last 3 or 4 days, I have noticed a "tingle" from one of my teeth, right above the one that was worked on.
