Avatar n tn If your diabetes is not well controlled this could be the cause of your not being able to gain weight. If you have Type 1 diabetes, you may also be at risk for other diseases that can contribute to poor weight gain, like Celiac disease. The other question is, why do you want to gain weight? You can some nutrient dense foods like nuts which have good fats and proteins without too high a carb load as part of your diet. Weight bearing exercise is great as a general rule.

Avatar f tn Eventually I went on 1000mg twice a day Janumet, and 2.5XL Glipizide, it worked for a while. I recently gained 8 lbs. but not sure it was the glipizide. On my second day of Victoza, so far ok. Interested to hear what kind of reaction you had to Victoza.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the advice. I think I will make an appointment for a referral after all.
Avatar n tn My husband was recently diagnosed with type II diabetes. His doctor has prescibed janumet. In reading about the drug I've found info stating that "one should not consume excessive alcohol" and also "one should avoid alcohol". My husband drinks at least one glass of wine/beer a day with more on weekends. I'm confused as to what excesive means or if he is suppose to avoid alcohol totally. Any information would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn Sometime later Sept - Oct 09, stiffness of the neck and head getting heavy had me run to my GP for advise. He checked my blood sugar and it was 22 Mmol. I also have had elevated blood sugar problems when I had a boil somewhere on the body or the neck getting stiff, after a while it went away. I've not had the other symptoms of Diabetes2 like frequent urination, weight loss etc. Dr. started me off with Galvusmet 100mg.
Avatar n tn says metformin at both 500 x 2 and 1000 x 2 are both equally ineffeciant for treating diabetes. She highly recommends Janumet 5/500. Gus added this to his and has seen a decline in sugars. I did as well when I was switched.
1192309 tn?1264801232 I understand your weight loss might be from other illness but if you are average weight (and losing), if you were very sick at diagnosis and especially if you have another autoimmune disease such as thyroid, you might want to get your antibodies checked to make sure you are in fact type 2. Many of us were misdiagnosed type 2 purely by age and are in fact LADA/Type 1.5 which is a form of Type 1 with a slower onset. Worth getting tested for so you know how to treat correctly.
541196 tn?1293552936 Just out of curiousity, at what prolactin level would you recommend an MRI to be done when the prolactin comes back outside of the normal range and pregnancy and medications have been ruled out as the cause? FYI my symptoms prior to having the blood work ordered were ongoing lactation for 5 years after the birth of my son. I didn't mention it to my DR. for a long time as I thought it COULD be normal. One more thing if you don't mind...
Avatar f tn Losing 40 pounds by Sep 14 is a pretty tough goal; that's only 12 weeks away. Safe weight loss is 1-2 pounds/week; you'd have to plan on losing a little over 3 pounds/week and wouldn't be able to backslide a bit. I think your goal is a bit optimistic. You should first check to make sure you don't have an medical issues that might prevent you from losing weight, such as hypothyroidism or insulin resistance. Your doctor can order some simple blood tests.
Panda It is the same product I used when I reach a weight plateau. It shifted my weight within days. Got no side effect either.
1441125 tn?1284071885 Metformin works when properly taken. You must, however, adhere to diabetes nutritional guidelines and exercise on a regular basis for it to do its job. Personally speaking Metformin and cinnamon have no side effects when taken simultaneously. Does cinnamon help lower my glucose levels? Yes, in some ways it does. Will it work for you? Yes/no. Cinnamon works for some people and not for others...won't hurt to try but bear in mind you may not see any changes for 3-4 months down the road.
Avatar f tn Weight loss for a person depends not only on physical activity like exercises, but it is much more dependent on food habits. Along with your exercise you must maintain the following diet to lose weight. • Your major intake should be fruits and vegetables.
Avatar f tn No, assuming that you don't have an eating disorder, this is not normal unless you retain a lot of fluid, which you shouldn't, at your age ......... It sounds like you could be suffering from an overactive thyroid; have you ever had thyroid function tested? Get the following tests: TSH, Free T3 and Free T4, plus TSI; and get checked for Type I diabetes........ these are 2 major health issues that cause weight loss....... don't panic, but get tested for both asap....
2047155 tn?1527163964 Nothing happens as fast as we want it too, but consider how long it took for the weight to get put on that was lost (for me that was 5 years). Now if you're just moving away from the soda and other junk - just be patient because you will see results, but there will come a time where you will have to work very hard to get to where you want to be.
Avatar f tn It is true that as you get closer to your goal weight, it gets harder. Your body is getting used to working out all the time. I would suggest mixing up your exercises. If you mostly jog, try some strength building exercises. The more muscles you have, the easier it is to burn calories. Try eating more vegetables. They have fiber and almost no calories. Fruits are good too, and full of water, but they do have more natural sugars and calories in them.
1669446 tn?1303551937 When I quit using I lost quite a bit of weight as well. I used to bloat up on all the drugs and alcohol and now I'm at the thinnest I've ever been. Some people gain, some people lose from quitting I guess it all depends. Are you working out, do you have an appetite as sudie asked?
