i used janumet for my sugar it make me gain weight but it lower my sugar why isnt suppose to make u loose weight

Hi Mare, I am also diabetic (7 years, the last 2 insulin dependent). I was treated with Glipizide, glyburide, lasix, glucophage, several others. They all have warnings against alcohol. I disagree with Pointman, however, about having your husband stop alcohol completely. One glass of beer or wine is not excessive. I do agree that what is most important is your husbands blood sugar level, that he manages his numbers.

hi i am presently living in the Philippines and i have run out of my janumet 50mg/500mg tablets and they are not available here in Philippines the only diabetic tablets available where i live are Metformin 500 tablets, can i substitute these for the janumet ?

speak with the radiology department where your MRI is scheduled to see their procedure. Depending on the contrast being used, some will want you to be off any medication with Metformin for 2 days prior and after the procedure. Check in with them to be sure.MRIs are sometimes not included in that group, usually it is concerning CAT scans. In regard to the vision changes: your doctor should specify what kind of vision changes are in question.

this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......

I am a 29 year old married woman. I am diabetic and take Janumet 2x a day. I take birth control loestrin Fe. My husband and I have sex about 5-7 times a week. I have vaginal irritation and mild itching. It typically would arrive a few days after my period or a few days before. I did some research and all 3 of the mentioned above (diabetic, use of birth control and frequent sex) all could lead to yeast infections. So I bought over the counter remedies. Each time they worked...

Last night I got up to go to the bathroom, and when I stood up, I became very dizzy, was very nauseated, and broke out into a complete body sweat. This last for approximately 15 minutes, and then the symptoms slowly went away. I thought I had to vomit, but when I intentionally tried to vomit, nothing happened. My diabetese medicine was changed from Pioglar + Metformin 500 twice a day to Janumet 50+1000 twice a day in around March 2011. I have since lost about 15 KG and it is still going down @ 1 kg per month. I was happy to reach my ideal weight. However, I do not know how to stop further loss. I am Diabetic, so can not discontinue Metformin. Any suggestion ?

There's a post by Gus who asked the same question yesterday. Diabetes medicine Metformin helps to produce insulin in the gut to "help" lower your glucose levels. It doesn't perform miracles nor does it lower your glucose levels by itself. The key word is "help." Lifestyle change is required. This is done by controlling your glucose levels with proper nutrition, moderate exercise, and weight control. Read my posts in the threads from Darkestlight and Gus on this forum.

Metformin works when properly taken. You must, however, adhere to diabetes nutritional guidelines and exercise on a regular basis for it to do its job. Personally speaking Metformin and cinnamon have no side effects when taken simultaneously. Does cinnamon help lower my glucose levels? Yes, in some ways it does. Will it work for you? Yes/no. Cinnamon works for some people and not for others...won't hurt to try but bear in mind you may not see any changes for 3-4 months down the road.

I changed my diet to oatmeal and 5 strawberries for breakfast, salad for lunch, dry bran cereal for snack, Healthy Choice Meal for dinner, and slice of bread n peanut butter for bedtime snack to take with my janumet. Because Janumet makes me feel nausea. My blood sugars are running 308 this week and last night it drop to 219 and gave me a headache. My doctors can't really do much about my meds because my insurance won't pay for my diabetic meds. I am using sample packages.
