Avatar n tn re asking for diabetes side effects to occur, some which are quite horrible. Try speaking with your doctor to see whether your scale requires adjusting to your lifestyle.
Avatar m tn As I currently live in London and will be continuing my healthcare here whilst I am away (12-18 months = 1 annual review meeting with my healthcare team), I am reviewing my options for getting my insulin. I am currently on Levimir and NovoRapid (Insulin aspart). What I am interested in is if anyone has any insight into the options that I have available.
Avatar f tn There is no change in my diet, exercise or my daily routine pattern. Even I take short acting insulin(novorapid) when my sugar level goes beyond 300 but it doesn't make much difference. I m really worried.as I know in long run high sugar can affect d working of other body parts &I m clueless that y my sugar level is so high even aftr maintaining strong diet control.
Avatar f tn He knows his correction dose of novorapid is, for example, 1 unit of insulin will drop his blood sugar by 35 points. Thus, he will use 2 units of novorapid for correction. He is also planning to eat breakfast shortly and will eat 30 g of carbs. He knows that he needs, for example, 1 unit of insulin to cover 10g of carbs. Thus, he will add 3 units of novorapid for his breakfast, giving him a total dose of 5 units of novorapid.
Avatar f tn Examples are insulin zinc suspension, protamine zinc insulin, and the insulin analogues insulin glargine and insulin detemir. The latter two insulins are now the most widely used long-acting insulins. * Biphasic insulins: mixtures of short-acting and intermediate-acting insulins in different proportions, such as 30/70, 50/50. Examples are NovoMix 30, Humulin M3, Insuman comb and Humalog Mix25.
Avatar m tn injury etc Her insulin brand was changed from Novomix (mix of 30% insulin aspart and 70% protamine crystallised insulin aspart) to Biocon brand (30% as soluble insulin injection and 70% as Isophane insulin injection) recently.
Avatar m tn older insulin Humalin-N has an onset of 15 - 30 minutes compared to the modern insulins such as Aspart (novorapid for me) and Humalog, which have an onset of about 10 - 15 minutes. Moderate acting insulins are the ones we use for basal (background) insulin. Examples are Humalin-R (older insulin), levemir, lantus etc. Then we have the action profile: whether there is a peak or not. The older insulins, particularly humalin-R do not have a flat action profile.
Avatar n tn http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/500253.html and did find some info on skin changes .. "Less common or rare Depression of the skin at place of injection; thickening of the skin at place of injection; ..." This doesn't mention cellulite directly, but it sounds similar. The site also has a clear caution to discuss these or any other changes with your doc.
Avatar n tn She is on 4 shots a day, 2 with breakfast which is Insulatard ( 9 units ) and 3 and half units of Novorapid. She gets 2 units of Novorapid with evening meal and 2 units of Insulatard with bedtime snack. We are finding it very difficult to bring her sugars down within her target range.

Avatar n tn Another question from me:P, i have been reading around latley, and have found many differnt types of insulin, and insulin pumpsm etc. all with there pro's,and cons. If possible, could someone please explain to me the differnt types of insulin, and ways of managing diabeties, and the pros and cons of them.
443862 tn?1237999439 Doses of NovoRapid will vary from person to person definitely. It depends how much you weigh, and whether your T1/T2. I'm a type one and 4 units of fast acting insulin wouldn't be enough to keep 60g of carbs at bay in my blood glucose. The best thing is to do trail and error for while, and eventually you'll be able to estimate precisely. The only way is to find out yourself. Every recommendation of doses from doctors i've had to adjust and find out what is best for myself.
Avatar f tn I eat very sensibly and very rarely do I have carbs (mostly salads). I use Novorapid as my quick acting and have low doses of that (10, 6, 8) and 16 Lantus. I have been type 1 diabteic for 26 years (since I was 5) and have not had problems with my weight but in the last 6 weeks have gained 5.1kg I am very active and am finding this hard to deal with. Can anyone shed any light on to what I can do to loose weight as i have tried everything ! I am considering going onto an Insulin pump.
Avatar f tn All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. These are the most COMMON side effects of Lantus. Redness, swelling, itching, or mild pain at the injection site.
Avatar n tn Hello, My 3-1/2 yr old son was recently hospitalized because of vomiting due to a gastrointestinal virus of some kind. He's ok now and at home and past all the virus symptoms. We've been slowly increasing his insulin dosages while his body gets used to properly digesting food, but, now that we're back to normal insulin dosages, he's still exhibiting very high levels after breakfast and into lunch (approx 24-27 mmol/L or 430-480 mg/dL).
Avatar f tn the amount of Levemir taken has nothing to do with the amount of carbohydrates (carbs) you eat. That type of insulin is called a bolis insulin, like Apedra, Novalog... that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.

Avatar f tn Insulinotherapy was initiated with glargine, ten units at bedtime (glycemic value before aministration was 169) after reiceiving 6 units of aspart imediately (7 pm). Next day a fasting value of 140 mg/dl. Bedtime value (2 hours postprandial ) 269. After 10 U glargine, fasting value 120 mg/dl. Glycemic variation are very important and depend on the thyroid status. What is your opnion? Is this a temporary glycemic instability, type 2 or type 1 diabetes?
Avatar n tn I'm another volunteer here and also not a medical professional. WAK is right that you should talk to your doc about this episode. While I haven't had the specific reaction you described, I can remember having some unusual symptoms if I accidentally injected into a blood vessel or muscle so that my insulin "hit" more quickly than it would otherwise. As you know, we strive to inject in fatty-tissue (subQ or subcutaneous) that is nourished by a healthy blood supply.
Avatar n tn i'm glad you're feeling better off your long acting insulin, but i hope the NovoRapid, Novolin NPH are keeping your blood sugar down. If it's not, you really need to see your doctor. I'm concerned you haven't seen your doctor since changing it. At least you could leave a message? thinkthink, i haven't heard mold is used in the manufacturing process.
