novolog

Avatar n tn per carbs, per starches, per snack, etc Most endocrinologists will put a diabetic patient who uses insulin on a sliding scale of insulin, depending on what the blood glucose is when you test before a meal. What did your doctor tell you?
Avatar f tn I have a NovoLog FlexPen with 100 units which stopped working after about 1/3 of the insulin had been dispensed. It simply stopped releasing the insulin left in the pen. I pay a lot for these pens since my insurance only covers about half the cost. I took it to my pharmacy who said I must get it from Novo Nordisk, Inc. How can I get a replacement?

Avatar m tn injury etc Her insulin brand was changed from Novomix (mix of 30% insulin aspart and 70% protamine crystallised insulin aspart) to Biocon brand (30% as soluble insulin injection and 70% as Isophane insulin injection) recently.
Avatar n tn t like my insulin stored in the refrigerator as insulin when cold has a burning sensation when injected. I am fortunate to have a kitchen drawer that remains at 50-70° F year round. Family & friends in warm climates like Hawaii must use the fridge for storage.
Avatar n tn Carbs provide a surge of BG so a surge of insulin is needed to regulate the BG, that is the function of rapid insulin. Levemir is a Basal insulin provides a long term (24 hour) insulin supply. Levemir is NOT meant to counter BG rise due to food. eating food will raise BG for 2, 3 or 4 hours levemir lasts 24 hours a rapid insulin lasts about 4 hours so it matches the BG result from food.
Avatar m tn This is where you use a long acting insulin to cover your base insulin needs - usually injected twice a day, and a short acting insulin befroe meals to cover what you ate. Using basal bolus you are less likely to have to eat to prevent going low becuase you can better control how much insulin you will be taking and tailore the insulin to your actual food intake. I strongly recommend that you eat low carb. This dramatically increases ability to control blood sugars.
1353681 tn?1387083733 Hi, I have not used lantus, but I do use levemir. Both are medium acting basal insulins. Levemir works best injected twice a day. I inject just before going to bed (22 units), and when I wake up in the morning (8 units). As you can see, I don't use the same dose morning and evening, as I find I need more basal insulin at night when I am inactive, than during the day when I am active. You will need to adjust your dosage based on your target blood sugar levels.
Avatar n tn Another question from me:P, i have been reading around latley, and have found many differnt types of insulin, and insulin pumpsm etc. all with there pro's,and cons. If possible, could someone please explain to me the differnt types of insulin, and ways of managing diabeties, and the pros and cons of them.
Avatar n tn http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/500253.html and did find some info on skin changes .. "Less common or rare Depression of the skin at place of injection; thickening of the skin at place of injection; ..." This doesn't mention cellulite directly, but it sounds similar. The site also has a clear caution to discuss these or any other changes with your doc.
Avatar f tn Examples are insulin zinc suspension, protamine zinc insulin, and the insulin analogues insulin glargine and insulin detemir. The latter two insulins are now the most widely used long-acting insulins. * Biphasic insulins: mixtures of short-acting and intermediate-acting insulins in different proportions, such as 30/70, 50/50. Examples are NovoMix 30, Humulin M3, Insuman comb and Humalog Mix25.
Avatar f tn Many diabetics, even t-2 that are on insulin, their bodies reject insulin. I have been on 9-10 different insulins through my time but back then I didn't think about me rejecting it. All my doctors told me was that it is not working for me. So I HAd to keep changing insulins. Now I am on the flexpen (great inivention) taking Regular and one shot of Lantus before bedtime. It all works! I am so sorry to hear that your wife has filed.
Avatar f tn Insulinotherapy was initiated with glargine, ten units at bedtime (glycemic value before aministration was 169) after reiceiving 6 units of aspart imediately (7 pm). Next day a fasting value of 140 mg/dl. Bedtime value (2 hours postprandial ) 269. After 10 U glargine, fasting value 120 mg/dl. Glycemic variation are very important and depend on the thyroid status. What is your opnion? Is this a temporary glycemic instability, type 2 or type 1 diabetes?
Avatar n tn If he is overweight even though a type 1 diabetic, then some type 2 treatment may be necessary in addition to his insulin, for fat cells tend to cause insulin resistance problems. I am just guessing, based on what you wrote. If this is the case, then it sounds as if your doctor is doing the right thing, but perhaps needs to switch to another medication since the glucophage doesn't seem to agree with him.
Avatar f tn Or is there any other medicine which can be taken to maintain a normal blood sugar level...Right now, I am taking Novomix 30 (biphasic insulin aspart) and Volibo 0.2 (twice in a day-breakfast and Dinner time)...
Avatar f tn I have been recently put on Novalog 70/30 flexpen for about a week now, I was taking oral medication and I finlly has not been keeping my blood sugar under control, my dr.

1111143 tn?1259092353 I just joined MedHelp, but I like what I've seen so far. I just setup a Diabetes tracker. I've got a question for you. My doctor recently put me on Levemir FlexPen Insulin. She told me to inject 20 units just before bed, increasing it by 2 units each night until my morning fasting level is 120 or below. I'm already up to 45 units, but my fasting level this morning was still over 300. How much is too much insulin? The pen only goes up to 60 units in one shot.
Avatar n tn Some people develop scar tissue if they do not rotate injection sites (this is important for both pump users and folks who take shots), and if that happens, it can mean that you need more insulin to keep sugar levels under control because the scar tissue does not absorb insulin well. So that is important to remember in order to keep your body absorbing the insulin properly.
Avatar f tn Every blood test (prior to meals and bedtime) and every insulin injection (breakfast and tea time) are battles. She runs and hides. We have to pick her up, restrain her and inject her, whilst she kicks, screams and tries to bite. We don't think either hurt too much - she doesn't flinch with finger pricks and asks if the insulin needle is in, two seconds after it went in! After needles there are shouts of "I hate you two. I want another mummy and daddy!
Avatar n tn 10 units (1/30cc=1 unit) of Novolin ge NPH (isophane insulin) mixed with 1.5 units of Novorapid (aspart insulin; Novolog in the US), abbreviated as N10 & RP1.5 respectively (2) dinner: RP2 (3) evening snack: N3.5) Even now, we're still just adjusting to the eating and injection schedule, and you will too. It takes time, and we'll never really "get used to it", but it's all we can do for our kids. Our son's last HbA1c check was 7.
Avatar n tn It is a little scary meetin a new doctor for the first time. Is your pain under good control now? If it is, he may not change much, if anything. Since you didn't mention what your diagnoses are or the meds and treatments you do, I'm sort of generalizing. All doctors and practices vary. Some insist on treatments in addition to your meds, others see their patients every month while still others see them every three months. I always try to feel out their personalityatm first meetin.
519736 tn?1253986826 thanx for your quick reply. I did have black coffee right before the test. I have hypothyroidism. It was a new Endo I saw last June that ordered the blood work. He did not inform me of the insulin of 109 until August. And he told me I was "becoming insulin resistant". My glucose was normal. I'm confused. Are insulin and blood sugar the same thing?
Avatar f tn He has been covered for ALL his supplies, including insulin, through Medicaid, up until he is now at the age of 21-1/2 years old. He works for a minimum wage job and rents with his sibling. My question is, where does one go to get help getting their insulin for low cost? There is no way he can afford over $500 a month for his insulin and pump supplies.
