Infection in kittens eyes

Common Questions and Answers about Infection in kittens eyes

infection

8444768 tn?1416123086 Unfortunately it affects the cats ability to eat or clean . They only do IF they must. The reason is the severe infection in their gum line. I had to have my cats teeth totally removed to cure her. So I know that is not possible , but it may be the same thing. Poor thing if it is Stomatitis, Mama can just about bear it herself let alone take care of her kitties. You may not think she appreciates the Nanny help, but bet she does. She is just feral and they are always suspicious of we humans.
Avatar n tn Upper respiratory infection is the reason your kittens are not healthy. At so young an age, they need to be cared for constantly. That means the vet, food and the time you take to care for them. It does not sound like you have the resources for much if any of this. My best suggestion is that you re-home them with someone who has the time and money to raise them.
Avatar f tn He probably has an infection and will require antibiotics. In the meantime, don't bother his eyes too much, you don't want to irritate them. Just do what you are doing, very gently, from time to time. Not too often and don't worry if you don't get every last bit. You just don't want the kitten's eyes to gum up and seal themselves closed, which can cause a buildup of fluid and discharge behind the eyelid if he can't open them.
Avatar f tn I took them to the vet and got Pentamycetin eye drops to help whatever it is. I noticed the father (in a separate room) also starting to have teary eyes. I then took him to the vet and got blood work done. Nothing showed up. Then I had another vet recommend an eye swab for the kittens. It came back positive for D355 Mycoplasma. I then checked my other cats and they have it too.
Avatar m tn This all started when I took in 2 kittens from a lady who has passed them around to a few houses trying to get a cat to nurse them. My cats did so I kept them. There were no signs because their eyes were still shut. Now that they have opened the two I took in have it the worst and online it says its from being to a lot of different homes with different bacteria. I cant loose my two momma cats or have them wind up blind PLEASE HELP I CANT AFFORD A VET!!
Avatar m tn so i have a 7 year old lactating persian queen and she seems to have a lot of phlegm.
8444768 tn?1416123086 When we lost Bobbie-Jo she left behind a litter of kittens that were just about 6 wks old, they were pretty much weaned. There were 5, we found good forever-homes for 4 of the 5; I suspect Ed is going to keep the last one, we named her Gemma. Now for my question-bear with me!! One of the shop cats that hangs around Ed's shop is 1 he named Pigpen. She's perpetually filthy for some reason, hence her name.
Avatar f tn I have a litter of kittens about 6 week and they seem to have a cold.Their eyes mat shut and their noses are runny.what can i do to get them better?
Avatar f tn my cats had kittens about 3 weeks ago and they now have their eyes open. but i have this one kitten and his/her eyes puss so much that it hardens and pervents him/her by seeing because it closes her eyes shut. i think he/she is too young to use medicine on but im not sure what to use even if i could. any advice??
1303813 tn?1303159362 Yes, warm water would help to soften them up. Cassie, while you're waiting to hear from the vet or even take this kitten back in, get a small washcloth or even a sturdy paper towel would do it Moisten it with warm water and apply to the outside of the kittens eyes to loosen up that gunk. Once it's loosened up, very gently try to wipe it away. This is conjunctivitis which can come with a cold. Did the vet put the kittens on antibiotics?
637356 tn?1301924822 I adopted three kittens from a guy who kept them in his garage. My mom was supposed to take two and I keep the third but after a week with them I do not want to give them up. Anyways me and my mom took them to the vet right after we got them and he put them on antibiotics for an infection. Starts with a C but can't remember what it is called. He said it was very common in cats.
Avatar m tn my son just rescued two adorable kittens. we've estimated their age to be about 8-9 wks. both appear healthy - no matted/goopy eyes, stool appears normal - but the one kitten has some really goofy looking eyes. by that, i mean the right eye pupil stays round and points downward all the time. he walks straight so I'm guessing it's always been this way.
Avatar n tn d be concerned that this is the start of an eye infection, especially since the first infectious conjunctivitis for kittens with Feline Leukemia hits between 4-6 weeks of age. (some 80% of the stray cat population has it). I'd consider taking the kitten to the vet, especially if there's oozing about the eye, or swelling. On another note, if you contact your local animal shelter or rescue group, some of them do provide "safe trap" cages to catch stray kitties.
592047 tn?1243385987 s are....... How does an infection / abscess in the mother cat affect the unborn kittens?? What sort of abnormalities can occur in the kittens?? And..... How long does it usually take for abscesses to heal?? My cat is in so much pain and is still lame in her paw, but the vet said he doesn't want to give her any painkillers because she is pregnant.
1356258 tn?1277664250 They had eye infections (swollen/red around eyes, so much gunk that eyes were matted shut, upper respiratory) and the vet gave them eye ointment and oral antibiotics for 2 weeks (they finished 2 days ago) and seem to be better except for the occasional sneeze (the other one might be squinting a little today). I am not sure if it was bacterial or viral, but my husband and myself caught it, and the antibiotic eye drops have helped.
Avatar f tn Some sort of treatment is neccessary as it sounds like your cat has an eye infection. These infections (especially in kittens) left untreated usually cause blindness in the affected eye. But some sort of antibiotic is definitely in order.
152660 tn?1291755571 He was a bottle baby from 2 days old. In the time since I got him his eyes (one at a time and both) have swelled up, shut and watered repeatedly. It will be like that for about 2 days and then stop watering and open back up. Probably 6 times so far. I know one time he jumped into the litter box when another kitty was there and got litter flicked in his face. But other than that I have no idea what it could be.
Avatar n tn We have some kittens about 6 weeks old and they have been acting lethargic and having green ***** eyes and diarrhea. One of our adult cats (not their mother) has symptoms of Feline Leukemia? and I am concerned about these kittens. Is there anything we can do for this? Is there any treatments available that is not real expensive that can be administered to them? Please advise. Thanks.
199954 tn?1294944669 Cats in colonies commonly have herpes and other infections. Herpes causes upper respiratory infections such as runny eyes. A Herpes infection can go away on it's own, than will lie dormant for a period of time, but will return at a later date when the cat is physically or emotionally stressed. There is no cure, but it can be debilitating, but very rarely serious unless complicated by feline leukemia, AIDS, or FIP.
Avatar f tn D thank you so much :)
14757790 tn?1436375176 this kitten and likely all of them perhaps have the herpes virus...relax its quite common in cats. it does affect the eyes however, and left untreated can lead to a severe infection and blindness. is the eye ball and tissue around the eye red? and weeping pus? than this kitty needs an antibiotic eye drop.
Avatar n tn You don't say whether his eyes run, or are goopy, or how old he is. Lots of kittens have cruddy eyes, which often don't become symptomatic until they stop nursing and lose that immunity. We always cleaned their eyes--not inside!-- with a mild solution of boric acid, but I'm sure there are better solutions today.
Avatar f tn My cat is about 2 or 3 years old and she just had her first litter of kittens. The kittens had been eating cat food on their own for about two weeks and weren't feeding off the mother anymore, so we gave them away. Now her breasts are swole bad. She seems to be in pain and they are a little red. What caused this? What can we do to help?
Avatar f tn My cat gave birth to seven cute Persian kittens. two of them died a few days later. the other 5 are healthy and about 1 month old. it's been a few days that my cat doesn't eat well and she doesn't care about her kittens as before. her kittens are able to eat for themselves, but still need breast milk. Is the mummy cat sick? she used to be so greedy and she used to eat a lot of food.
Avatar f tn Oh I sure wish there were, I am in Canada too and I've sure have never heard of any....did some phoning myself last week to try and find a Vet that would give a cut on fees to get a feral cat spayed, she keeps having kittens under a friends porch, the friend...bless her heart, finds homes for the kittens but the mother is too wild. Finally the clinic I take my boys too offered to spay her for half price...$100. so I'm hoping we can scrape up the bucks to get her done, enough kittens!!!
