Eye infection in kittens

Common Questions and Answers about Eye infection in kittens

infection

Avatar n tn Upper respiratory infection is the reason your kittens are not healthy. At so young an age, they need to be cared for constantly. That means the vet, food and the time you take to care for them. It does not sound like you have the resources for much if any of this. My best suggestion is that you re-home them with someone who has the time and money to raise them.
Avatar n tn It's probably feline calicivirus (FCV). Take your kitten in. It needs antibiotics at the very least to deal with the infection that's causing the eye issues before it gets worse. Yes, it's contagious through bodily fluid. I wouldn't worry to much about your getting it, however.
Avatar f tn she may have an eye infection...this needs to be checked out by a Vet and if infected an antibiotic eye drop has to be prescribed to protect her vision....could also very well be the herpes virus and she is having a flare up. if this is the case she needs to be on L-lysine an amino acid to help her immune system fight the virus. can you take her for a checkup this is very important to know what this is.
Avatar f tn As a carrier, would my stud be able to pass the infection along to the females, or the females to their kittens? How is the infection spread? Should I be altering and rehoming anyone tested positive for it? Thanks again for the help!
Avatar m tn This all started when I took in 2 kittens from a lady who has passed them around to a few houses trying to get a cat to nurse them. My cats did so I kept them. There were no signs because their eyes were still shut. Now that they have opened the two I took in have it the worst and online it says its from being to a lot of different homes with different bacteria. I cant loose my two momma cats or have them wind up blind PLEASE HELP I CANT AFFORD A VET!!
202436 tn?1326474333 Well I got all three kittens into the vet this afternoon. She gave us two thumbs up and said if we've gottten 3 out of 4 this far along we are doing good. Lil Man has an infection in his eye. She opened it enough to get most of the infection out. He's on antibiotics for 2 weeks and we have to do warm compresses on that eye for a few days. If his eye isn't better by the beginning of next week we have to take him back in.
1303813 tn?1303159362 Well, it sounds like an eye infection which won't go away without antibiotics. How old is she now? Can you take her to the vet?
Avatar f tn they have a upper respiratory infection, not uncommon for little ones because their immune system is so low. take them to the vet right away! this can become pneumonia and they can die quickly if it turns into that.
1356258 tn?1277664250 We found 2 stray kittens almost 3 weeks ago. They had eye infections (swollen/red around eyes, so much gunk that eyes were matted shut, upper respiratory) and the vet gave them eye ointment and oral antibiotics for 2 weeks (they finished 2 days ago) and seem to be better except for the occasional sneeze (the other one might be squinting a little today). I am not sure if it was bacterial or viral, but my husband and myself caught it, and the antibiotic eye drops have helped.
Avatar n tn d be concerned that this is the start of an eye infection, especially since the first infectious conjunctivitis for kittens with Feline Leukemia hits between 4-6 weeks of age. (some 80% of the stray cat population has it). I'd consider taking the kitten to the vet, especially if there's oozing about the eye, or swelling. On another note, if you contact your local animal shelter or rescue group, some of them do provide "safe trap" cages to catch stray kitties.
647911 tn?1373314647 There are viruses that people and cats can both get, for one example, chlamydia, and it manifests as a respiratory/eye infection in the cat (but I can't remember if it manifests that way in a person or not). You might check with the vet and see if the cat should be treated.
Avatar m tn Should i be worried about infection, and how will i know? The cat definitely is weaker than the others, and has a lazy eye since returning home that i also gives me concern. What should i do? It has been a little under 18 hours since surgery and their appetite seems to have returned, as they went right for food when i put some out, including the one i am concerned about.
592047 tn?1243385987 s are....... How does an infection / abscess in the mother cat affect the unborn kittens?? What sort of abnormalities can occur in the kittens?? And..... How long does it usually take for abscesses to heal?? My cat is in so much pain and is still lame in her paw, but the vet said he doesn't want to give her any painkillers because she is pregnant.
Avatar m tn I have often put my boobs to good use when orphans have needed warming up but in this kittens case I shall pass as she is all teeth and claws! Best wishes and I shall keep you updated with kittys progress.
Avatar f tn It's an eye infection. In a kitten that age, it's likely caused by calcivirus... has the mother been tested??? Unless the kitten gets antibiotics within a day of when the infection started to get severe, there's a good chance it will end up with full or partial blindness (assuming it lives). Your options are take it to a vet, or try to find some amoxicillin to give to kitty. If this is a human pill, we're talking about a pin drop amount of medication here.
637356 tn?1301924822 I adopted three kittens from a guy who kept them in his garage. My mom was supposed to take two and I keep the third but after a week with them I do not want to give them up. Anyways me and my mom took them to the vet right after we got them and he put them on antibiotics for an infection. Starts with a C but can't remember what it is called. He said it was very common in cats.
Avatar f tn Some sort of treatment is neccessary as it sounds like your cat has an eye infection. These infections (especially in kittens) left untreated usually cause blindness in the affected eye. But some sort of antibiotic is definitely in order.
Avatar f tn hi well it could be cat litter in the eye or infection try putting a warm rag on the eye wipe gently on your computer type vets in frampton in bristol x and a list should show up of vets in your area but it may be alright but if it is like that for more then 2 days a vet is a good idea
Avatar f tn t have to remove the entire eye, just the outer membranes. Too soon to tell if she has any vision left in that eye, but she looks good. This has been a pretty tough week for me, but when the kittens are willing to fight for themselves like GHM, Maggie, Jo, and Tobby have, I have to help them in whatever ways I can.
Avatar f tn It seems like a big cyst or abscess. Her brother has an eye infection at the moment that I have been treating with warm salty water.
Avatar f tn He probably has an infection and will require antibiotics. In the meantime, don't bother his eyes too much, you don't want to irritate them. Just do what you are doing, very gently, from time to time. Not too often and don't worry if you don't get every last bit. You just don't want the kitten's eyes to gum up and seal themselves closed, which can cause a buildup of fluid and discharge behind the eyelid if he can't open them.
Avatar m tn so i have a 7 year old lactating persian queen and she seems to have a lot of phlegm.
Avatar f tn My cat is about 2 or 3 years old and she just had her first litter of kittens. The kittens had been eating cat food on their own for about two weeks and weren't feeding off the mother anymore, so we gave them away. Now her breasts are swole bad. She seems to be in pain and they are a little red. What caused this? What can we do to help?
