Avatar n tn Others may cross-react with it that are negative. The western blot is used as a confirmatory test only after a reactive ELISA. The ELISA is often reactive before the WB. Take care.
Avatar m tn Hi, How are you? Indeed, most HIV tests look for the HIV antibodies rather than looking for HIV itself in the blood. There are tests that look for HIV's genetic material directly, but these are not available worldwide. Positive Enzyme immunoassay or EIA may need a follow-up or confirmatory test such as the Western blot to confirm the diagnosis. It is best that you discuss the results with your attending physician.
Avatar f tn Welcome to MedHelp Lyme -- sorry you are running into the strange politics of Lyme -- but it's not uncommon. There is a quiet network that helps locate resources, and this site is one of them. Glad you found us!
Avatar n tn The baby as had an extensive workup for the most common causes of anemia. Although the high LDH level might still be a sign of red blood cell breakdown (hemolysis), the most common causes of hemolysis have been tested and none of the tests are positive. If it hasn't already been done, the baby deserves a referral to a pediatric hematologist. They are the specialists who can manage the further evaluation of this anemia, since the underlying cause is not one of the most frequent ones.
Avatar m tn A few weeks later I fell ill and began getting paranoid. I had a antibody test and a rna viral load test at two month and the elisa returned non reactive and the the viral load was undetectable. I tried moving on but at 11 months I again became paranoid after getting sick and had another elisa and a hiv rna pcr viral load test that again it returned non reactive and undetectable respectively and finally another elisa at 14 months. Is it possible to have hiv with those tests returning negative?
Avatar f tn I am currently living in Central Texas and have to go through whatever rheumatologist they send me to through Tricare insurance, however, we are moving back to CA in July. If you can direct me to a LLMD in So. Cal and Central TX, I would be most grateful. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hi there, For what it’s worth, I believe the doctor is spot on. The definitive test for active Hep C is the “HCV RNA PCR” test; this is negative in your case. The most likely scenario is that at one time in the past you were exposed to the HCV virus; but cleared the active disease with your own immune response. This occurs roughly 20% of the time, leaving the patient antibody positive, RNA negative.
Avatar m tn s a way you combine all your daily swabs into 1 vial for them to just look for herpes in ( compared to them testing 30 swabs and charging you for 30 swabs ). Since you are just looking for the presence of herpes and not shedding on particular days/symptoms, this is the most affordable way to do this. Terri does take on long distance patients. there is a charge to be her patient as well as a charge for the pcr testing too of course.
Avatar f tn s going to cost a lot out of pocket but if you are paying a pretty penny for this, then that gives you the freedom to go anywhere you want. You can shop cost even of programs. Just have to factor in getting you there. Got anyone who can drive you?
Avatar n tn Dear Doctor I need your help, as I faced a big problem today, I went to do HIV test today ( rapid one) and because I was in rush the doctor in the lab.
Avatar f tn I’ve had my pain pump for 10 years. Since 2012. I agree the Medtronic Pain Pump can be a wonderful thing. I take no oral pain pills under normal’s circumstances. However in the 10 years I’ve had it. I’ve had one human error in taking care of it. A technician who was supposed to refill the pump failed to do it and put my pump on a micro drip till I came back. Unfortunately I went into under-dose and ended up at the hospital.
Avatar m tn I was able to get both the herpeselect ELISA and Immunoblot tests done through direct to consumer testing sites. I took the ELISA twice and the Immunublot once (all hsv 1 and 2 type specific IGG tests), all of which came back negative. I didn't realize the Immunoblot was available until after already taking the ELISA. From the herpeselect site the Immunoblot has much better hsv1 detection, which is primarily what I am concerned with.
Avatar m tn You can either have us order that for you, you would need to become a patient of the clinic, which we can do by a phone appointment or you can order a test kit through the University of Washington lab.
Avatar n tn What is the difference in the Oralswab rapid test and unigold rapid finger prick test? Are they both just as accurate and sensitive? Is one better or more reliable than the other? Is it just better to test with ELISA test or is there a difference?
Avatar m tn The HIV window period is the same for a diabetic as it is for a regular person,& whats with all the testing. You should have an elisa test at 3 months.
Avatar m tn Thank you for the fast response but am worried to death, cant sleep, eat thinking of those numbers Increasing
5133140 tn?1364525169 Here are my labs since July of 2008. I just got the copies today to go over them. I should have asked for a copy of my whole chart so I could see how/when my meds were adjusted. Just thought I'd post them here as others may find them interesting or have comments. On many of the labs there were lots of other tests ordered, but I don't really know what they are.....things like lipid profile, CMP, glucose, calcium, CBC, prolactin, cholesterol, vit d levels, IGF-I........
Avatar m tn You should be thanking the heavens that you are HIV negative instead of looking up for rare strains of the disease. Never ever engage in something like that again!!
Avatar n tn PS -- I should also have added: There is a newer, different test for Lyme, called a polymerase chain reaction [PCR] test that Lyme specialists often use in addition to the Western blot and ELISA tests. The Wblot/ELISA tests rely on your immune system reaction to determine whether you have a positive (+) test or a negative (-) test for Lyme.
Avatar m tn t include any nasal or throat symptoms (runny/stuffy nose, cough/sore throat, etc). The strong migraines in the morning (for the past 2 days) are also quite concerning. Would a rapid HIV test at 3 weeks be reliable? Also, could these symptoms be indicative of another STD? Thanks again.
Avatar m tn I would say definitely invest money in the expensive RNA test and have a peace of mind, because obviously you are going to spend much more living with this stress. Get tested because your risk was very high. I hope your results are good and wish you the best.
