Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen dosage knee

ibuprofen

Business man2 1) At my age 69.5 and a daily dosage of 4 ibuprofen OR 3 naproxen, do I have to worry about kidney disease resulting from a "total lifetime dose" of ibuprofen/naproxen ?? 2) At recommended dosage and over a lifetime, does acetaminaphen have less potential to harm me than either ibuprofen or napproxen? 3) Is there a "total lifetime dose" concern for acetaminaphen? Thank you for answering questions in this forum !!
Business woman2 If you were my patient, I would advise you that how to taper will depend upon what your dosage is, and how long you have been on that dosage. One thing to try is to cut the dosage in half for a few days, then in half again, etc. Sometimes reducing the dose every other day is helpful It can be very difficult to wean of a pain medications by yourself, and sometimes it is good to get medical help.
Avatar n tn knee and I believe that is why I have had the problems now with that knee, (deterioration of the cartilage). I had surgery on the knee and am hesitant to use injections that over a long time may cause damage (like what happened, I believe due to the cortisone injections) Are there any long term studies related to the synvisc injections and possible long term damage to the knee?
Avatar m tn About 15 years ago, a sports orthopedist gave me some really serious knee braces and said they would stabilize my loose knees. They controlled the pain. But over the last couple of years or so I arrive at this point: Both knees hurt all of the time and it makes it very difficult for me to even walk or bicycle. Prior to having knee surgery (I don't have a surgeon yet) I want to strengthen the muscles that support my knee and lose about 20 pounds (I weigh about 20 1bs ; I now weigh 260.
Avatar n tn Ibuprofen is a bloodthinner. They say you arent supposed to take it...only tylenol. Because when you are pregnant the volume of blood in your body increases by 50%. If you were to have an accident, go into preterm labor, etc...you could bleed out and hemmorage. Causing lots of problems!
Avatar m tn He gave me a prescription for Naproxen 500mg, which i understand is just aleve at a higher dosage. He also sent me for an xray of my knee/leg just to make sure there wasn't a tumor in the bone and that came back negative for any issues. The problem I have is that I have tried ibuprofen and aleve for the pain and neither one really helps much with the pain, and if I want to make it help I have to take way over the recommended dosage, which I know is not good.
Avatar m tn Took a boatload of ibuprofen (under 2400 mg/day) to supplement darvocet while recovering from total knee replacement. My stomach is killing me now. What can I do to relieve the pain in my upper stomach?
11446628 tn?1418298480 I have osteoarthritis in my spine, from neck down. I also have pain in my knee and hands, and my fingers are twisting and have knots. My right knee has had pain and swelling for weeks, and this morning it's too painful to walk. I haven't injured it. Recent blood test didn't report rheumatoid arthritis. So what's going on with my knee, and with my hands?
6708370 tn?1471490210 Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is widely recommended for the relief of back pain and the pain of knee and hip arthritis. But a systematic review of randomized trials has found that it works no better than a placebo. Australian researchers reviewed three randomized trials that compared acetaminophen with a placebo for the relief of spinal pain, and 10 trials that compared their use for easing the pain of osteoarthritis. All together, the analysis included 5,366 patients.
Avatar n tn the main problem is pain in left buttock down to knee, and also pain from shoulder to neck, could it be from high dose of tyroxin or something else.
Avatar m tn Can Kidney pain be a side effect of taking Ibuprofen? I was taking ibuprofen last week consecutively for 3 days (400mg t.i.d) after laser eye surgery. A day or so after starting it I experienced mild pain/discomfort in my left flank that came in waves. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen the flank pain also stopped. The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day.
1148241 tn?1294052796 I recently quit taking Vicodin for my joint pain because I was concerned about liver damage. I have been taking Ibuprofen instead. I've been taking two in the morning and then two in the afternoon. It says don't take longer than 10 days though. I have to take something though. My knees and wrists and fingers hurt too much if I don't. I know you guys aren't Drs but experience counts for something if its what your Dr has told you. What do you guys take?
Avatar n tn It is mandatory to rest the affected knee and also to apply ice packs. Continue ibuprofen for 3-4 days and also wear a knee support or brace. Do not exert and do not do any weight bearing. If the pain and inflammation continues then you have to go for some scans and follow up with an orthopedician for a proper examination and diagnosis. Take care!
Avatar n tn He suspected there was more bleeding around the knee due to me taking ibuprofen up to a day before surgery (He failed to mention the ibuprofen during my checkup before surgery) Have been elevating, alternating cold and moist heat, taking aspirin daily. Have also been doing daily leg raises (400) and isometrics and can now get around without crutch, but am limping because my knee cannot flex.

3072999 tn?1356414732 Just wondering if anyone is currently taking Tramadol on a regular basis? I saw my NS today and was telling him about the pain I was in and the problems I was having and that I was currently trying to avoid Norco and taking more Ibuprofen. Well he is referring me to Physical Therapy (yeah, I'm hoping it helps me out) and also massage therapy and prescribed me Tramadol. He said to take it every 6 hours everyday as it is not an 'as needed medication' like Norco or Ibuprofen.
Avatar m tn Last August I discovered a bubble on my left knee cap and was told it was bursitis. That went away with Ibuprofen. For the past few months, I have had a bad burning feeling in my left knee. It is there most of the time when I am at rest or up walking around. I am a Pharmacy Technician so I do not do a lot of physical work. I do sit at a desk most of the time.I do not recall injuring it. I went to my local Prompt care this past weekend and the doctor said it is not bursitis.

Avatar n tn d been having pain on the back of my knee, as well as on each side of my knee cap. My knee had been stiffening and locking if I climbed up more than a flight of stairs. The MRI came back last week, and I was told that it thankfully isn't serious, is inflamed in a few areas, to RICE it and to take ibuprofen. The impressions listed on the MRI were: 1.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking adipex for weight loss, I had an injury to my left knee and want to know if I can take ibuprofen while taking adipex?
Avatar n tn Despite this the symptoms have now spread to my right hip, right shoulder and slight symptoms in my right knee. I get some relief from taking 400mg of Ibuprofen at night so I can sleep. Is there anything else I can do to try to halt the progression of the disease? Or are there any better meds I can take. I am 54yrs old, female and not over weight and physically active.
Avatar n tn I just came from my dentist and he suggested I take 3 ibuprofen 4 times a day for 3 days to see if it would calm the nerve of a tooth. If it does not, then he suggests a root canal. My main concern is I'm afraid of the stomach problems this might cause. Do I have need to worry? I also take omeprazole to calm my stomach, so am I defeating the purpose? Thank you for your time.
Avatar n tn I can feel rubbing and clicking in my knee when I walk. What is wrong with my knee? Should I still be playing basketball or will it make it worse?
Avatar f tn He has had pain in both his knees for a few weeks now. The pain has gradually got worse, and he says it is under his knee cap and when pressing the back of his leg in the knee area, it is very painful. He has seen the GP but he has just given him ibuprofen, and told us to keep an eye on him! The other day he could not walk because of the pain and I am very worried about what this could be? The pain is constant, and the ibuprofen is just masking this a little. Can anyone advise? Thanks.
