1) At my age 69.5 and a daily dosage of 4 ibuprofen OR 3 naproxen, do I have to worry about kidney disease resulting from a "total lifetime dose" of ibuprofen/naproxen ?? 2) At recommended dosage and over a lifetime, does acetaminaphen have less potential to harm me than either ibuprofen or napproxen? 3) Is there a "total lifetime dose" concern for acetaminaphen? If you were my patient, I would advise you that how to taper will depend upon what your dosage is, and how long you have been on that dosage. One thing to try is to cut the dosage in half for a few days, then in half again, etc. Sometimes reducing the dose every other day is helpful It can be very difficult to wean of a pain medications by yourself, and sometimes it is good to get medical help.

knee and I believe that is why I have had the problems now with that knee, (deterioration of the cartilage). I had surgery on the knee and am hesitant to use injections that over a long time may cause damage (like what happened, I believe due to the cortisone injections) Are there any long term studies related to the synvisc injections and possible long term damage to the knee?

About 15 years ago, a sports orthopedist gave me some really serious knee braces and said they would stabilize my loose knees. They controlled the pain. But over the last couple of years or so I arrive at this point: Both knees hurt all of the time and it makes it very difficult for me to even walk or bicycle. Ibuprofen is a bloodthinner. They say you arent supposed to take it...only tylenol. Because when you are pregnant the volume of blood in your body increases by 50%. If you were to have an accident, go into preterm labor, etc...you could bleed out and hemmorage. Causing lots of problems!

It is mandatory to rest the affected knee and also to apply ice packs. Continue ibuprofen for 3-4 days and also wear a knee support or brace. Do not exert and do not do any weight bearing. If the pain and inflammation continues then you have to go for some scans and follow up with an orthopedician for a proper examination and diagnosis. Take care!
