Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen dosage as an anti inflammatory

ibuprofen

Avatar m tn In fact, as it is an anti-inflamatory, it would stop that type of pain. I would be looking at the possiblitly of a small stone and the timing is just a coincidence, if it recurs again have an ultrasound done. Have you ever shown blood in the urine?
Avatar m tn Do NOT give ibuprofen to your dog, it is highly toxic to them. If you want to try an over the counter medication to your dog, you can try aspirin, but in low doses. Here's a website with a pretty good break down on what you should and shouldn't give your dog as far as pain killers go. http://www.dogchannel.com/dog-information/dog-vet-geller-dvm/article_18550.
237053 tn?1258828426 Do any of you take a prescribed anti inflammatory? I'm thinking of asking my dr about getting on one. I'm thinking it should help with some of the pain...
1475492 tn?1332884167 I agree with Alex. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and large doses under a doctor's supervision might prove helpful. Contact your doc and see how he feels about using it. As anti-inflammatory it may cause an improvement in your symptoms (which is what IV steroids do) but like steroids it cannot stop the progression of the MS, just the symptoms. I hope you find some relief soon. If your doc prescribes ibuprofen, let us know what kind of results you get. Feel better!
Avatar n tn Tylenol is classified as an "analgesic" . This is the same classification as asperin. The most common anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS - Non-Steroidal Anti-INflammatory) are Motrin (Generic = Ibuprofen) or Aleve (Generic = Naproxen or Naproxen Sodium). I agree - use only one of these.
Avatar f tn style, rather than through an anti-inflammatory mechanism. I do wonder, though, if it has *any* anti-inflammatory effects? I don't know. So, yes, your 800mg ibuprofen is an NSAID.
Avatar n tn Then in addition, anti inflammatory drugs can be taken like Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen but they should be taken under a medical supervision. Surgery is the last resort to go in for a hematoma. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Certain companies take advantage of this and use extraction techniques (in order to standardize an herb, you have to use an extract, not just the powdered herb) that maximize the extraction of fat soluble compounds. This is why turmeric is traditionally more for liver support than the now more common use as an anti-inflammatory.
Avatar f tn If you have liver disease, NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), like Advil (ibuprofen) can also be dangerous to take. Aspirin should also be taken with care because it can lower a person's platelet count. People with liver disease often experience a swelling of the spleen. This can destroy platelets faster than the body can make them. Taking aspirin will add to this problem. All benzodiazepines can harm the liver.
Avatar m tn org/cgi/content/full/48/4/676 These can cause false positives as well Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, fluoroquinolones, and Vicks Inhaler are most frequently implicated http://www.jfponline.com/Pages.asp?
973741 tn?1342342773 As far as I can tell, this is only a problem if you have hypertension. If you have normal blood pressure, the rise isn't going to affect you that much. Celebrex and Vioxx are far more connected to major heart events, again as far as I'm aware.
Avatar f tn This is a question best directed at your Pharmacist. We often forget that they are the true experts in medications - interactions and so forth.
Avatar n tn It truly sounds like the flu....but, I would do as the doctor recommended, and try the ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, which means it will not only help with discomfort, but it helps reduce any swelling that may be causing discomfort. If you symptoms don't improve, or get worse, you should at least call your physician and let him know. He may want to see you again, and run further tests for a more specific diagnosis. Hope you feel better soon!
Avatar n tn I went to the eye doctor and he examine the eye and stated that I had episcleritis. The first two weeks I was put on anti-inflammatory drops, which did not help. This past week I was put on Prednisolone and over the counter ibuprofen and it has help tremendously. However, I still have just a little redness. Should I be worried?
Avatar n tn Hi You should discuss with your doctor about the diverse abortive medications available to terminate an attack as soon as the symptoms begin. Treatment is there for both the prevention as well as abortion of an attack. Paracetamol or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs), triptans, ergot alkaloids and anti-emetics are used for treatment of migraine.
Avatar f tn Ibuprofen – (Motrin, Advil, Nuprin and others) reduces high body temperature, is an anti-inflammatory and inhibits normal platelet function. A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), ibuprofen can cause gastrointestinal upset and bleeding. Those at risk of portal hypertension are already at risk for gastrointestinal bleeding, intensifying this risk. Studies have demonstrated that at certain dosages, ibuprofen can stress the liver and elevate liver enzymes in people with Hepatitis C.
1305767 tn?1361192676 Is it safe to take ibuprofen in the same day as Meloxicam? I take 15 mg of the Meloxicam in the morning for pain but need additional pain relief later in the day and I know that both drugs are NSAID so I don't want to accidentally overdose.
11446628 tn?1418298480 I am glad to know that you do take it with or after food. With an anti-inflammatory drug, I believe they need to be taken regularly to get any benefit. They are not the same as pain relief medications. If you do notice any side effects from them, then don't take them (I experienced oedema in my leg from the Ibuprofen). Some antidepressants work on referred pain, and you may be offered one of them by your doctor.
Avatar m tn Both the medication with give almost equal amount of pain relief though meloxicam is associated with fewer side effects as compared to ibuprofen. Though pain relief may be immediate, anti-inflammatory action may take a few days to build up. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn Naproxen is an NSAID (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug), along the lines of Motrin (ibuprofen). It can be rough on the tummy, and is usually not recommended in people who have a history of a GI Bleed, bleeding ulcers, etc. Read more here: http://www.drugs.com/naproxen.
Avatar m tn If this is a recent change in your memory and/or sudden change, I would definitely check in with your doctor - advil is an anti-inflammatory and can, in some instance, cause bleeding problems - mostly in the GI tract, but there's also a chance of bleeding elsewhere, such as the brain.
