How long until lexapro kicks in

Common Questions and Answers about How long until lexapro kicks in

lexapro

Avatar f tn I have been on lexapro for a month, and i am seeing some help with depression and anxiety, but the problem is that I take it (10mg) in the morning around 8am and dont feel the effects until at least 3 hrs later. Should i be taking it at night so that i can get up happier in the morning? I have been missing work and school just because i dont want to get up in the morning. But i dont want to start taking it at night if it makes it wear off by the next day.
535882 tn?1396580285 I'm not the doctor, but do have several years' experience with lexapro. Unfortunately, the answer to your question is yes. Most meds in this class take some getting used to and lexapro in particular seems to be a big culprit for gastro problems initially. I take it, my husband takes it, my brother and several friends take it. Each and every one of us had pretty severe gastric pain in the first week or two at the prescribed dose.
535882 tn?1396580285 fasiculations, tingling , trembling in the morning, always shaking my legs.....xanax has been the thing holding me through tell hopefully this lexapro kicks in....
Avatar f tn You must know that those 2 drugs are short-term treatment until the Lexapro kicks in and you will have to go thru a withdrawal from Klonopin and Xanax since all you will need after several weeks is Lexapro. You might ask you doctor to get rid of Xanax or Klonopin and adjust the dosage rather than mixing both. I see no point in mixing two kind of benzodiazepine. You question was is it safe to mix both.
Avatar f tn If so, how long should it last. Should I go ahead and start taking the full 10 mg. of Lexapro until I am completely off the effexor. Could it be side effects from the Lexapro. I would have thought I would have side effects right away if I were going to have any on the Lexapro. Just wondered what your thoughts are on this. Thanks for your help.
1797743 tn?1389217285 I was misdiagnosed with a thyroid disorder and treated with meds for 2 years before being taken off and developed really bad anxiety. I feel like the Lexapro is kicking in and I know it can take some time, but I am just curious about some of the side effects I've been having. I am following up with my doctor also. I have been tired, lightheaded and recently noticed that my blood sugar has been on the lower side (low 80's) and I'm not diabetic. I usually tend to run in the mid 90's.
Avatar n tn I am really trying to be positive and rational since it hasn't been that long yet. I am definitely going to write back in once I'm over this **** and tell everyone how long it took to feel myself again with no withdrawl symptoms. I sure wish someone out there whose been down this road would jump in and tell their experience. I desperately need some encouragement with my weight loss.
7562787 tn?1392206272 Every dose is worse than the last. Everytime I take it, as soon as it kicks in I get horrible cold sweats, body shaking, nausea, and a general feeling of restlessness, I also get odd pins and needles sensations, headaches and begin to feel very nervous. This stuff is supposed to help calm me down, not keep me keyed up. But I did some research and found that my side effects have been documented with this drug and aren't completely un-common.
Avatar n tn but I know 9 days is too soon to judge the Cipralex (Lexapro - I don't know why drug companies market different in Canada than in the US... confusing!!!) and I cleared all my travel schedule for work until mid august to really give this a shot in a low stress environment...... so day by day I guess for now....thanks for the words of encouragement eveyone!!
Avatar n tn I am dizzy, I can drive but feel like I am on some heavy drug. I am still very tired and my legs feel strange in bed. How long do the symptoms stay??? I researched this to find out if it was the Lex. withdrawl that was causing these feelings. I have not had the head zaps, although experienced a nightmare last night. The sexual effects off the drug are sooo much better.
Avatar n tn I'm up to 10 to 15 a day now and take five just to get me moving in the morning. This is no way to live. How long and how hard are the with drawals from it? I don't want to live my life around this drug anymore. Just a word of encouragment some times is what I think I need and to know that I am not alone.
Avatar n tn How long until I start to feel better? I am off of work for a week (I planned this to coincide with my vacation). I would have gone into a detox or something but I have no one to take care of my house, etc.
Avatar n tn were you able to tell when the celexa worked even though you were taking the ativan, is ativan similar to xanax, I hear so many bad things about going off those but I know they give them to help with the lexapro til it kicks in. Are you on lexapro or celexa now. the lexapro worked really well last time and I am just waiting for it to work.
Avatar n tn So, for those who asked how long it takes for your metabolism to return to pre-Lexapro levels, I can only say, sadly, that I'm looking at 15-18 months off the stuff and still haven't returned to normal. Sorry.
Avatar m tn It is usually used short term (4 weeks or less) Depending on how long you've been on the Lexapro, the Ativan MAY help you over the hump of the insomnia until the antidepressant fully "kicks in." It might be worth discussing this with your doctor. The other option is to tweak the dosages of the meds you're now on or to try a different combination. But do not stop ANY medication without talking to your doctor first.
Avatar n tn Onthedge, sorry to hear/read about your situation. I'll pray for you. How did the addiction start with your husband? Did he have surgery? When did he tell you, or did you just find out? A lot of people struggle with telling their family. Maybe he didn't because he thought it wasn't a problem. How did he get caught? Often doctor hoppers wonder how the arrest would happen? Did they catch him on the phone?
Avatar f tn If your doc is using the buspar as a benzo -- to temper your anxiety until the Lex kicks in -- again, it hasn't shown a lot of success in doing that. As for your job change, that might have triggered stress, but anxiety is a chronic ailment, not a temporary response to things that happen in life that throw us for a loop. Either that goes away or you have to find another place to work, but that's not anxiety.
Avatar f tn Just checking in to see how the lexapro is working?
1917734 tn?1322537498 Dude dont blow your whole life like I did on the stuff living in recovery is a beautiful place let us know how we can help you help yourself.......
Avatar n tn I usally call someone on the phone that I haven't talked to in a long time so there will be enough conversation to distract my brain, until the xanax kicks in. I have tried medications, paxil, zoloft, they just make me feel like I am in a dream and I can't work....Typing this long message has gotten me through the one I have been having for the last 2 hours. I am beginning to wonder if I will ever be normal again. I feel very sad and confused as to why this is happening to me.....
Avatar n tn I have severe joint and muscle pain as well as fatigue and dont know how long I can keep working, My employer does not understand and neither do my doctors want to admit this. Funny they stopped giving full doses of the Albuferon a month after I finished due to sides. Now they say cant be from treatment.I am very frustrated as I cant get anywhere with docs or job. My wife has been a rock throughout.I wish you all well.
Avatar f tn Anyway hang in there hang in there hang in there I am praying for you even though I'm not religious I'm rooting for you I empathize with you this is a horrible horrible horrible state to be in I've been through it I think that you should ask your nurse practitioner to give you something to help you out while you're in the state until the Lexapro kicks in something like a light benzo maybe just 15 pills.
Avatar n tn Way to Go.... You have survived your 2nd shot! You'll do fine. They do get easier after your body starts adjusting to them.
Avatar m tn Once you blindly build a tolerance up, you wont even realize it then you will get out of bed one day and realize its all catching up with you. Wait til the arthritis feeling kicks in.....thats a ball of kicks....and thats just the beginning of the hell of opiate use.
Avatar n tn My question is does anyone have any idea when someone is in this condition how much longer they can hold on and how hard should I push the doctor. Thank you!
Avatar n tn I am experiencing a bout of this now, and it is driving me crazy since I do not know how to relieve the symptoms, or how long they will take to go away. It makes it difficult to concentrate and can bring on depression because of the length of time it lasts. The pain can be intense very often and I am at my wit's end trying to deal with it. No point in going to the doctors since they have done everything they can already, to no avail.
433892 tn?1208435343 and other times, I get so scared I cry and I almost go wild, well, you guessed it, that ole enemy, adrenalin kicks in and I am off to the races. I never realized how much a part adrenalin plays in these things, I should have, but, forgot, dolfnlvr helped me to remember.
1425157 tn?1311655279 I'm a zoloft veteran due to panic attacks coupled with pvcs, and for me, the drug eventually takes away my awareness of the ectopic beats--and also seems to decrease their frequency. However, it can take two to four weeks for most people to get the full calming effect from zoloft (or any of the SSRIs); you really can't tell anything from the first week or so. In the meantime, there may be transient increases in anxiety as well as changes in the heart rate.
Avatar n tn To answer the specific question, "How do I know when skipped heart beats are dangerous?" You don't. Only a doctor can determine that with equipment like an EKG. The big clue that something is wrong is if you begin passing out, which from what you say is highly unlikely since your heart tests are normal. If you're just having ectopic beats, this probably isn't even worth you thinking about it.
Avatar m tn I am pretty much completely dysfunctional for at least half an hour to two hours. The Vyvanse I take generally relieves it when it kicks in. It's as if my mind falls apart when off it. It's very drastic; like nightmare, these experiences may dissipate or, in severe cases, they essentially "bleed over into" the whole day. I never wake up happy to face the day, excited, etc., but instead face this same terror each and every morning.
