There are different HIV antibody tests. One test is the ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). If the ELISA test is positive, a second test called a Western blot is done to confirm the result. The Western blot takes longer to perform and is more expensive than the ELISA test, but it is more precise.

It says that you should do another test inmidiatly, so go to the closest testing place, and get another rapid test so you can have a better idea, DO NOT HAVE A Western Blot, unless you have a positive elisa or rapid test, and inconclusive or indeterminate is not a positive, if you continue having indeterminate results on rapid test, get an Elisa and if the Elisa is also indeterminate, seek for and Hiv expert near you to help you on wich test is better for this case, rapid and elisa tes
i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time. i live in africa, the doctor said that the elisa test i did is excellant and it could detect antibodies even 1 week after last time.
My daughter was sexually assaulted and took an hiv dna pcr test and an antibody test 32 days after possible exposure. I know the hiv dna pcr test is not a diagnostic test but since she took both tests shouldn't that help to alleviate some of her anxiety? I was told the dna pcr test is pretty conclusive after 28 days. If the dna pcr test is so unreliable, why is it used for testing for blood donors in my area to help shorten the window period? Thanks for any responses.
My lab report only mentioned Western Blot ans negative. There was no mention of the ELISA test. My question is was an ELISA test done and then it was confirmed with a Western Blot test - or was the only test performed the Westerm Blot since this is the only test that showed up on my lab results.
From what I have read, a Western Blot test will not be performed unless there is a positive ELISA test. This has me concerned as Western Blot is the only test on the report.

This ELISA test provides a quantitative in vitro assay for human antibodies of the IgG class against HSV 1/2 (group specific) viruses in serum or plasma.
Just came from my doctor and found out:
I was tested with HSV 1, 2 Comined Ab Screen IgG (ELISA) and the result was 2.12 (which indicates 'Detected' for a range greater than 1.1). The test was performed by Arup Laboratories. I don't think they tested me for HSV 1 and 2 separately.
My doctor told me I have herpes and I am freaking out although I don't have symptomatic symptoms experience. However, upon reading the thread here, it says that this range may be false positive.
At that point i went crazy. I went to a infectious disease specialist and he performed another Elisa test and a Combo test (7 and a half weeks post exposure). The elisa came back positive again, with the same results as the last test (that was performed 2 and a half weeks before the second test), with no antibody dinamics (no increase in the amount of antibodies compare to the 1st test). The Combo test came back positive as well (because of the Elisa), but the p24 antigen was not detected.
I retested after 10 years with HerpesSelect 2 IgG Elisa and it came back as non-reactive. Q2. How accurate are HSV Elisa tests in correctly identifying negative HSV1 and HSV2 results?
I had ordered an online home test kit where I had collected my blood on a blood card and ship it to the lab in another state.
I heard they miss huge numbers of HSV1 and 3% of HSV2 results.

Here is my story 6 months back(in sep 2010) i had sex with a prostitute but unfortunately my condom got ruptured and i got tested 3 months post exposure and now 6 months post exposure and test results are negative(test was performed using 3rd generation elisa kit) and all my symptoms are muscle pains.still i feel these muscle pains especially at the lowe part of my body (both thighs and calf's).

My question are....... is there any chance of getting HIV through old but cured eczema (that area is still black ) ? How accurate these Elisa test are ? I'm still having muscle pain, muscle twitching, and joint pain with a dry cough after 75 days of first incident. I had a history of getting cold frequently as my immune system is not strong enough. Now please tell me the chances of getting infected with HIV.
