Heartburn and hives

Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn and hives

Avatar f tn Mine hives however, have come with a nasty dose of heartburn - which all screams allergy to me. I'm anaphylactic and the hives (generally all over) and heartburn (to the point where I can't even sit down, let alone lie down) are signs I'm heading for a crash to epi pen stage. This doesn't feel like that - being contained to only my wrists and inner thighs. Also, my antihistamines are barely keeping them contained. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I told the ER doc that I had really bad heartburn so all he did was give me some kind of antacid or something like that in my IV. Hives and itching are gone but the heartburn is still there and it really hurts. This is the first and hopefully the last time this has ever happened to me. I'm drinking Maalox but its not helping. Should I go back to see a doctor about it? I see alot of you have the same problem and it looks like there's no relief in sight. I'm worried that I won't get help.
Avatar m tn I was taking these for 3 days and the hives and heartburn have gone away. Every now and then I can feel the heartburn and I resume the meds. I do not take them everyday now because I do not want my body to get use to the meds. And I also avoid foods, drinks and other products that contain sulfites.
Avatar m tn I havent had heartburn, but the hives and iching all over but mainly on the back of my neck and head and ears. My face also swelled up bad. My lips were so swollen they hurt.
610453 tn?1259108322 I have researched this and seen many specialists, and unfortunately I have been told by my ENT surgeon and endocrinologist that there is no guarantee that the surgery will cure the hives. The thyroid antibodies found in Hashimoto's and chronic hives are definitely related but your body will continue to produce the antibodies after surgery. I'm still hopeful that there will be some relief. I found ice packs to be useful in my first bout but it is different this time.
Avatar n tn I have no other symptoms other than the rash/hives(and im not even sure if this is the cause). I have not taken any pain pills since, and i have taken Benedryl caplets for the itching and swelling. My question is why wont they disappear? Could the reaction possible still occur from medications that i took over 24 hours ago? Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn Right now I am out of town on business and have hives on arms, inner thighs, and hands. These are the big ones that don't itch as much as they hurt. I have taken Benadryl and Prilosec which is a histamine 2 antagonist. I have 10 mg Prednisone tabs with me but the directions are to take 40 mg for angioedema and gradually decrease dosage. I know that if I take this dosage I will be up all night but am really uncertain about how much I should take.
Avatar n tn when I didn't get them during one of the most stressful times I've had. Then I went on progesterone, and lo and behold, hives. They aren't quite as bad, and they go away within 10-20 minutes instead of staying for 1-3 days. I brought it up to my doctor and he seems to think that I may be sensitive to hormones or that my levels are out of balance (which also may be why I can't get prego.).
Avatar n tn One thing you can do right now is try different laundry detergents and/or soaps and see if the hives go away. If your Allergist/Immunologist can't find the source for your condition, then I would consider seeing an alternative medicine practitioner that does BioMeridan (EAV testing) or muscle testing.
Avatar n tn I've recently started having heartburn a lot. I'm a 47 yo male and have only had heartburn a couple times previously in my life and never severe. When this first started happening I went to the ER because it was so sever one night that I thought I was having a heart attack. This was the first time I had gotten it in years. After a battery of heart tests nothing was found to be wrong with my heart-- Strong like bull!
Avatar f tn I went to my gp who suggested my heartburn can be made worse by stress and that stress can make heartburn worse. I have been given 3 months worth of PPI- stomach anti acid tablets which I have noticed some improvement from but its now got to the point where I can't eat anything after dinner or I will suffer terribly in the night. How long will this last for? Its been going on 3 weeks, should I be concerned is this normal? I am a worrier.
Avatar n tn I am only 5 weeks and I am miserable and on the verge of losing my mind. The chances of me having hives for the remainder of my pregnancy is high. I try my very best to deal with the discomfort by using gentle soaps, taking cool baths with oatmeal, and using a lot of hydrocortisone creams. Good luck! Always remember that there is someone else out there going through it too. You're not the only one!
Avatar f tn I started keeping a journal of what I was eating and could not find anything definite myself. I had a friend whose mother suffered from hives and reflux and had testing done and never found any allergy, but she took 1 Claritin and 1 Zantac every day for a year before it went away. So I started that regimin as the Benadryl was really making me groggy all the time. They do help, but I still have the hives as I can see them, they just don't itch.
Avatar n tn they migrate towards the 'warmth' of your body at night... p.s. my coworker suffered with hives for 8 months a few years back and no one knew why...they came...and went and she's not had them back since?!!!
176741 tn?1295237589 About 2 weeks ago I tried a new levothyroxine sodium drug called Tirosint. My hives went away and I got off the antihistamines. After a week, the hives returned and now I am not taking any thyroid hormone. The hives are still present after one day, but I expect they will go away when the thyroid hormone leaves my body. So I think that there is no doubt that Synthroid can cause hives for some people, and for me it's got to be the levothyroxine sodium because it's in both of those drugs.
Avatar f tn Went to the doctor's and he gave me zyrtec, two hours later I had big hives on top of my hands and on my neck. I have never gotten them on my neck before!!! I was scared but continued the meds for three days. Within the three days I had break outs all over my body (except face). So i went to see an allergist and he said I have chronic autoimmune hives without even any tests!! I have no history of allergies, so I believed him. I'm not so sure he's right.
Avatar f tn To Fellow Hives Sufferers - Please read this article from the Washington Post. I believe it solves a several-year mystery for me, and I hope it can help someone else. NEWS | POLITICS | OPINIONS | BUSINESS | LOCAL | SPORTS | ARTS & LIVING | GOING OUT GUIDE | JOBS | CARS | REAL ESTATE |SHOPPING CORRECTION TO THIS ARTICLE The column misstated the name of a sugar present on meat linked to a food allergy. It is galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose, not alpha-galactosidase.
Avatar n tn One member tried a protocol of mixing heartburn medicine and allergy medicine. I seem to notice less hives when I take two Zantac daily plus my daily Zyrtec. In fact, my hives are very much improved since I added Zantac to my routine. Also, when my face is red and burning, I use petroleum jelly to soothe. I also use Mary Kay products, like their creamy cleanser. I switched from Avon products, which were too harsh. For my scalp, I use prescription Nizoral. That does the trick.
Avatar f tn While I was in the doctors office, the inside of my mouth felt like I had bitten it. It was sore and swollen and my lips swelled. I also had some itching on the inside of my palms and arms. I showed doctor. She said it looks like an allergic reaction to something. She thought maybe pollen....so she gave me a 6 day pack of steroid meds which helped while I was on them....but I swelled up like Arnold Schwartzenager and walked around the house saying "I'll be back" all day long.
Avatar n tn About a week or two later, I developed hives on my back. They were flat and slightly raised. They were not large and circular like typical hives and did not appear to be a rash. They would go away and come back if I itched my back or came back on their own. I take Zyrtec to take away the hives, I still have a small amount of itching on my back and throughout my body, however, the Zyrtec took away the hives.
Avatar f tn and I am the only one getting the hives. I just feel very itchy and the hives are of a noticeable size and all over my body. It doesn't happen when I am at work. Also, I went out of town with my husband a week ago and stayed at a hotel, and I got the same hives. I am not sure what this could be. I don't have any other symptoms other than heartburn every day, which is probably unrelated.
Avatar f tn I am finally on a new drug xolair shots, which seem to be working for the hives, but heartburn is unbearable. Can the two be related. What can I do, this is horrible. This discussion is related to Hives and heart burn.
Avatar n tn The doctors have run a ton of tests and cannot find any cause. It seems like heartburn and hives are not a rare combination, just which the doctors knew more!
Avatar f tn I might also add that the hives I get only appear on my neck, head and face. And sometimes the hives show up in the same exact places (behind my ears, one on my temple always comes back and another above my eyebrow, the others appear all beneath my hair and around other areas on my face) I have also been feeling very fatigued throughout the day. No matter how much sleep I have had, I still seem to feel tired all the time, especially after eating.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have had heartburn and stomach problems for over 30 years. I'm 67 yrs.old and have tried all the different perscription medications. I have been taking protonix for about 5 years now and I'm concerned about long term use of protonix and all the other heartburn medications I have been taking for 30 years. I still suffer from heartburn daily. I have had 4 Endoscopy's done at different times and my Dr. say's it does show some inflammation but no Barrett's Desease, thank God.
Avatar n tn my 11 year old son had a virus on Thanksgiving 5 days later he started itching from head to toe no rash no hives nothing. we started him on benadryl and calamine lotiong, not relief so the Doctor gave him allegra and cortisone, no relief. Then the dermatologist gave him a shot of kenalog, and prescription cortisone. still no relief after two emergency room visits they gave him hydroxine and blood workups for kidney, liver, and thyroid came back normal.
Avatar n tn This product helps relieve upset stomach, heartburn, nausea, and diarrhea. If diarrhea is still a problem after taking the Bismuth Subsalicylate, Immodium can be taken according to the instructions on the package. If there is severe cramping, blood in the stool, or if the diarrhea does not resolve in about 24 hours consult your physician.
