Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine for hip pain

glucosamine

Avatar n tn My vet said it was ok to get human vitamins for them. He also said it was ok to feed food with glucosamine plus the vitamins.
Avatar n tn My hip, right at the top of the joint, gives me severe pain when I get up after sitting or driving. Worse at night, and keeps me awake sometimes. It feels a bit more like muscle pain than joint paint most of the time except after sitting. Would glucosamine, or joint juice keep this from getting worse? I am 58 years old and was a runner during high school. I work on my feet all day. Could this be something other than arthritis? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.
Avatar m tn Also I am feeding him a dog food which has Glucosamine will that help prevent his hip dysplasia from getting worse?
Avatar f tn My dog was diagnosed with hip dysplasia this last summer and the doctor recomended Glucosamine for my dog Bowzer and it seems to be helping he is walking better and even running around. I also buy the Pedigree dog food which has one where it has glucosamine in it for healthy joints. Ofcourse ask your vet if Glucosamine would be ok for your dog to take because I don't know if hip arthritis and hip dysplasia is the same thing. I hope and pray your baby gets better.

Avatar m tn Would a like to try Glucosamine & Chondroitin for my mild hip arthritis. Anyone have good results? Dr prescribed Meloxicam 15mg but am hesitant to start taking it.
Avatar f tn They do sell dog aspirin at most pet stores as well as glucosamine, which is a natural supplement for joints. Our 11 y/o Husky is going through this also, it's hard watching him wobble around. Good luck!
Avatar m tn I know things like glucosamine and missing link can be helpful. I also believe German shepherds are prone to hip dysplasia if I remember right. An orthopedic bed and keeping your dog sleeping indoors may also help.
Avatar n tn My dog saw a holistic vet in January for a severe ear infection, before then he was able to walk (40 min.) twice a day. He took a whole course of Baytril right before his blood test was taken and a month ago he got some antibiotic eardrop efloxacin. The vet suspected that he might have arthritis and Cushings because he was urinating more often in the evenings, had a ravenous appetite and his blood test indicated high potassium level.
1110049 tn?1409402144 The physiotherapist at the hospital told me to take it 2 years ago after he treated me for arthritic hip pain. I have been doing this, but I am not sure it is doing any good. The worse pain is now in a thumb joint, and keeps me awake at night. AS small join t with a lot of pain? Is Glucosamine a placebo? Does it work? Well perhaps there is no scientific evidence for a lot of things, but that does not mean they don't work.
1295500 tn?1272459927 Hi, my questions is I have a 9 year old collie, Sheppard, husky mix dog she's probably about 90 lbs now. She seems to be having a lot of problem with her back legs. Some days she seems fine and other days she can barely get up off the floor and when she does her back legs shake. Right now what's happening is she is holding one of her legs up and walking on three legs.
1388999 tn?1370042814 that leg a bit in cold damp weather) So I started her straight away on the maximum dosage for her weight of both Glucosamine and Chondroitin (That is 500mg Glucosamine and 200mg Chondroitin for her weight which is 28lbs) I asked the vet could I use Human grade pills. He said yes the substances are exactly the same. The human ones are much cheaper than veterinary ones! So I bought a huge pack of the pills at reduced price for bulk buy.
Avatar m tn My 9 yr old Rotty is currently in pain. The doctor has given lots of pain killers but he is sill in pain. He's not that old :'( and health. What should i do/try??
Avatar f tn There are a number of possible reasons for this to happen, though really only a doctor can diagnose you. I would look into taking glucosamine pills for now to help with joint pain and see if it helps at all. I'd make another doctor's appointment to get your hand looked at and see what they say. It could be from a genetic condition, from trauma, or from a malformation in growth, among some other possible reasons. I hope you can get some answers soon.
Avatar n tn I have heard many different things about glucosamine for dogs . That is is okay for your dogs, and also that it isn't. There can be many benefits to providing supplements for your dog. It can help them remain healthy and with that even happier. No one likes to deal with a grumpy dog. Can you tell me where I could find more information about glucosamine for dogs though?
Avatar m tn Sounds like you've tried and exhausted all the non-surgical possibilities. I would agree that if you do opt for surgery over a change in activity, then resurfacing seems to be the way to go. Resurfacing uses less bone stock, seems less likely to loosen with repetitive activity such as athletics, and still allows for total hip replacement in the future, if needed.
688845 tn?1325182236 Of course I assume the worst (like I always do) and I think he has hip dysplasia. I feel so bad for him because he is in pain. He went all day yesterday and seemed fine it's just at night that it bothers him. What can I do for him? My husband thinks we should wait a few days to see if it heals, he thinks (or is hoping) that he just pulled a muscle. These vet bills are killer but I don't want my boy to be in pain. Is there anything I can do to help him?
Avatar n tn Seven years old doesn't sound all that old, but since not all breeds have the same life expectancy it depends on the breed whether or not the dog is actually a senior dog at this point. Senior dogs are prone to all sorts of ailments, just like senior people.
Avatar f tn t help with the pain. I am not on any medications for MS (I chose not to for now) and I just take Tylonol for the pain and it works. It doesn't take it all away but it takes the edge off the pain. I get that horrible burning sensation and I know how you feel. It does hurt even if you touch it softly. I know it's hard to rest and take it easy with kids around but you have to. Resting helps. When I get the leg pains, I lay down and put a blanket around my leg.
Avatar m tn Tell your grandfather to be patient and if he does start taking it, I hope it works as well for him as it has for me. I wish him the best, pain can be very debilitating.
Avatar f tn I read somewhere that blackstrap molasses works wonders for arthritis pain in dogs. I also heard of extra virgin coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. I am really tempted to mix all these and give it a try. Has anyone tried these? or are there any other natural remedies? My dog has been on metacam but it doesn't work very well, I can tell she is still in pain. My dad keeps telling us to just put her to sleep so she can rest and not be in pain anymore.
Avatar m tn Of interest is an analysis of studies looking at glucosamine or chondroitin for osteoarthritis in the hip or knee did not show that these supplements slow joint destruction or relieve pain. Just be cautious - these supplements are reportedly not controlling any joint damage or deterioration that may be occurring. You will find the sites that sell these supplements raving about their healing powers - but you won't find that on medical sites.
Avatar n tn Now 10 years later, I have it in both shoulders, and pain when I walk, in my left arch and right ankle. Once my ring finger knuckle hurt for a year. The doc said the X-Ray showed no knuckle between the finger bones. Is this a case of disappearing joints? I've tried glucosamine chondroitin and shark cartilage but I can't see any noticeable improvements. Is there any way to resolve (aside from pain killers and drugs that have unknown or risky side affects)?
