Glucosamine and hip pain

Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine and hip pain

glucosamine

Avatar n tn I went to human vitamin store and got her some glucosamine supplements. I got the liquid flavored glucosamine and the glucosamine soft flavored chew. I know some cannot swallow pills. My dog eats the chews if I slightly warm them. She will not touch the liquid. I would rather put a pill in some meat or something. It is much easier for her to take. I put her back on a food with glucosamine and she isnt having any problems. I learned my lesson about changing foods.
Avatar n tn My hip, right at the top of the joint, gives me severe pain when I get up after sitting or driving. Worse at night, and keeps me awake sometimes. It feels a bit more like muscle pain than joint paint most of the time except after sitting. Would glucosamine, or joint juice keep this from getting worse? I am 58 years old and was a runner during high school. I work on my feet all day. Could this be something other than arthritis? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.
Avatar m tn for restoring cartilage and reducing pain. I know an abundance of ppl that initially took the supplement - and very few that take it today. There are still ppl that take glucosamine and chondroitin, alone or together, for osteoarthritis. Some people believe this helps. But an analysis of studies looking at glucosamine or chondroitin for osteoarthritis in the hip or knee did not show that these supplements slow joint destruction or relieve pain. It's kind of gone by the wayside.
Avatar m tn Hi I have a 6 year old Pit Bull he was diagnosed with mid line hip dysplasia and knee arthritis and the veterinarian prescribed him the generic for Rimadyl which is Carproxen. Now he has been taking this medecine for about 3 months. The veterinarian told me that before he refills another bottle of Carproxen my dog Bowzer will need to have a liver blood test done to make sure his liver is not being affected because this medecine can have a negative reaction in some dogs.
Avatar n tn i have been diagnosed with hip arthritis and a stress fracture in my right hip. i have chronic pain and weakness in my right leg. i have been put on fasimax with calcium and vitimin d. what are my chances of getting better and not having to have a hip replacement? Avatar f tn My dog was diagnosed with hip dysplasia this last summer and the doctor recomended Glucosamine for my dog Bowzer and it seems to be helping he is walking better and even running around. I also buy the Pedigree dog food which has one where it has glucosamine in it for healthy joints. Ofcourse ask your vet if Glucosamine would be ok for your dog to take because I don't know if hip arthritis and hip dysplasia is the same thing. I hope and pray your baby gets better.
163305 tn?1333668571 I've had a lot of soreness in my hip joints and deep muscles. My friend swears by glucosamine. I left a message for my nurse but wondered if anyone is taking it for dealing with the sxs of tx, namely, aches and pains? Thanks.
Avatar n tn I have a 9 year old yellow Lab, who already had confirmed hip dysplasia at age 4.5 when I adopted him. For the last two years, he has been on Rimadyl 2x per day and seems to have been doing fine with his arthritis. However, in the last 2-3 weeks, his left back leg suddenly began to cause him problems--he will hop or lose strength in it occasionally.
Avatar m tn I know things like glucosamine and missing link can be helpful. I also believe German shepherds are prone to hip dysplasia if I remember right. An orthopedic bed and keeping your dog sleeping indoors may also help.
1295500 tn?1272459927 Hi, my questions is I have a 9 year old collie, Sheppard, husky mix dog she's probably about 90 lbs now. She seems to be having a lot of problem with her back legs. Some days she seems fine and other days she can barely get up off the floor and when she does her back legs shake. Right now what's happening is she is holding one of her legs up and walking on three legs.
Avatar m tn joint pain. an appointment has been made. the vet has given the max dosage of pain killer and he is still in pain. i am sad.
1388999 tn?1370042814 that leg a bit in cold damp weather) So I started her straight away on the maximum dosage for her weight of both Glucosamine and Chondroitin (That is 500mg Glucosamine and 200mg Chondroitin for her weight which is 28lbs) I asked the vet could I use Human grade pills. He said yes the substances are exactly the same. The human ones are much cheaper than veterinary ones! So I bought a huge pack of the pills at reduced price for bulk buy.
Avatar f tn There are a number of possible reasons for this to happen, though really only a doctor can diagnose you. I would look into taking glucosamine pills for now to help with joint pain and see if it helps at all. I'd make another doctor's appointment to get your hand looked at and see what they say. It could be from a genetic condition, from trauma, or from a malformation in growth, among some other possible reasons. I hope you can get some answers soon.
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I am 52 years old and I have had chronic pain in BOTh my hands and wrists extending up the forearm for 2 years. I have seen physios, reumatolgists, hand specialists, you name it, I have been there. I have had physio, acupuncture, hand therapy, a carpel tunnel release on my left hand (hopeless) and recently a right side rib ressection. I have had xrays, bloods, bone scans, vascular studies, and MRI to my thoracic region and this week an MRI on the top part of my neck.
Avatar n tn The first time she suddenly screamed with pain was 5 months ago, suddenly screamed and limped for about 10 seconds. Then she did it once or twice, this went on for 2 - 3 days. Then nothing for 5 months. Yesterday she did the same thing again, and today as well. I can't find anything on the internet but when I touch her leg she doesn't even react as if there is nothing wrong.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am 46 yrs old, male, ex-athlete (competitive level basketball) and live in London, England. A year ago I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis on my left hip during an arthroscopy and most of the joint cartilage is worn out. Take glucosamine tablets regularly. Even though my condition is not so advanced to take painkillers etc, I cannot do any sport, which is important to me (even at a light, amateur level) and walking start bothering me after a few hundered meters.
Avatar f tn Hi-The fatty tumors are benign overgrowths of fat cells. They are nothing to worry about at all and do not adversely affect your dogs health. The Rimadyl however KILLS dogs and this is something you need to understand. In fact since the Rimadyl Class Action Law Suit, veterinarians are suppose to explain this and have pet owners sign a release form before prescribing this medication. Rimadyl is also available under many other names carprofen, vetprofen etc.
Avatar n tn The weather affects them negatively once their joints start to become arthritic and hurt them, and sometimes a dog can have hip dysplasia its entire life and the owner doesn't even know it until the dog reaches the age of seven or eight, and then even slight arthritic changes are enough to cause a lot of discomfort.
Avatar f tn t help with the pain. I am not on any medications for MS (I chose not to for now) and I just take Tylonol for the pain and it works. It doesn't take it all away but it takes the edge off the pain. I get that horrible burning sensation and I know how you feel. It does hurt even if you touch it softly. I know it's hard to rest and take it easy with kids around but you have to. Resting helps. When I get the leg pains, I lay down and put a blanket around my leg.
Avatar m tn I have severe osteoarthritis in my left hip and am looking at a hip replacement down the road. I have prescription IB profen and hydrocodone but very rarely have to take anything for pain. I firmly attribute this to take Triple Flex which is glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM. You have to take it for 6 to 8 weeks before it really starts taking effect. A lot of people expect it to work immediately and do not give it the amount of time it needs to work.
