I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
But an analysis of studies looking at glucosamine or chondroitin for osteoarthritis in the hip or knee did not show that these supplements slow joint destruction or relieve pain. It's kind of gone by the wayside. It was found to not be the wonder supplement it was once thought to be. Multiple studies revealed that they will not help you more than a placebo.
However there are still ppl that swear they help them.
Firstly you could start him on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplement. It really does help. You hear that the dog has to have taken it for a few weeks for there to be any noticeable change, but I have found it can take effect quicker than that.
To give you an idea of dosage, my dog weighs 28lbs and I give her 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin daily. If his weight is twice hers, or approximately, you can give double that dose.
I do know the Glucosamine/Chondroitin Tablets Double Strength 3 a day have helped my knee arthritis a little bit. I do see a difference if I stop taking it. I have not had any back pain, but I am having pain down the front of my leg and cannot lift it or the pain goes into my groin. Everyone is telling me that its from my back being unaligned, even if it does not hurt.
It is expensive, and its up to you if you want to try it.
In addition, you might consider using a vitamin containing glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate. Many have had significant relief on this vitamin.
Hi,does anyone know what dose of glucosamine & chondroitin i should give my 7yr old border collie,he is getting very stiff in his hind leg when getting up(old injury when he was 1yr old) but once he gets going he is still as fit & active as ever.
I find taking chondroitin + glucosamine tablets twice a day, provide invaluable relief for my osteoarthritic knuckles (for a year I'd been using anti-inflammatory salve twice a day but was on the lookout for something else as I don't like the concept of long term anti-inflammatory use).
I found a research study that seemed extremely promising and was pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed appreciable pain relief after merely 2-3 days of starting the pills.
Do you take any supplements such at Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM? They work great for me. As long as I take them every single day. My bones/joints would get so back I could barely walk, and I could tell if it was going to rain anytime soon because they would hurt even more! The Glucosamine really helped! Also a good calcium supplement. If these thinks don't help over a few week period I'd talk to your Primary Dr. about other possibilities. Good luck, I hope this helped!
I had my first series of synvisc injections in1998 .they greatly reduced my pain prior to a full knee replacement.The other knee bothered me and i had injections I think 1999. they worked for about 18 months.I then had another series and have not had any further problems with the knee.I have been taking glucosamine chondroitin since 1984.It did not help the left knee before surgery,but it greatly helped the movement and eliminated the pain in my hands until this past winter.
t do any harm is to start her on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements. This really works, and is completely natural. (if the arthritis is not TOO bad, the Glucosamine/Chondroitin can work wonders)
You could ask your vet's advice about this, and about the correct dosage (I would give her the maximum for her weight.) But ask advice first.

If the Baker's cyst is restricting movement it may need to be surgically corrected. For the arthritis conservative measures are weight loss, rest, ice, canes, bracing, physical therapy. etc. Also, nutrition supply should be considered, with chondroprotective agents (glucosamine & chondroitin phosphate, MSM, Omega-3). Glucosamine and chondroitin phosphate are unlikely to cause any drug to drug interactions with your other medications.
I lost all that weight by about 6 weeks post partum so I don’t think the pain is weight related. It’s most painful to get up from kneeling and to walk down stairs. I understand the hormone relaxin may have loosened the joints but it seems not to be improving and 4.5 months does seem a long time. I’m not breast feeding any longer.
Some patients swear by the joint supplements, such as chondroitin, hyaluronic acid, and glucosamine. There is some anecdotal evidence that these may help thicken the cartilage, but no strict research has ever shown this to be true.
Research says, it appears that glucosamine and chondroitin, alone or together, are safe and have few side effects. But they cost money and will not help you more than a placebo.
FDA does not regulate supplements. Some are even questionable. I'm all for healthy choices - but be cautious. Never take a supplement without consulting your medical provider. I learned the hard way.
I read your response with interest. I still do strength training, and I am NOT interested in being able to lift more weight on subsequent trips to the gym (wouldn't want to show up respirate - JK!!!).
In your opinion, I would guess, this "stuff" (scientific, similar to "crud") is better than gllucosamine chondroitin for the arthritis in my knee?
Anyone know how helpful Glucosamine sulphate and chondroitin supplements would be to my knee? Where would I purchase such products if they were to benefit me?

s fish oil with enhanced DHA and EPA (15 grams daily), megadose vitamin E, and megadose glucosamine+chondroitin+MSM daily for anti inflammatory effects for my joint and tendon problems. I am looking to treat trauma of the brachial tendon to treat pain during bicep workouts by using a glucosamine cream. I have heard anecdotally that the cream format increases bio-availability by a staggering amount and that the oral supplement is essentially a snake oil product.
And have tried everything he has asked me too. The only thing that has worked for my knee pain that allows me to be pain free ,is pain pills, but I am afraid to ask him for them because of the immediate labeling(which even you are having as you read this) that comes from someone asking for a strong pain medication. Stay off the knee! I can’t, I have no desire to be stationary until I am dead.Limit your activities> I already do, no running, jumping, or hard impact sports.
It's OK to give "human" grade Glucosamine and Chondroitin to dogs. But you seriously need to watch out for any additives in the capsules or tablets. Artificial sweeteners, Xylitol, sugars, or any other additives, and I would say no -don't give them that stuff. Toxic for them.
However, the basic Glucosamine/Chondroitin is EXACTLY the same substance whether for humans or dogs. The difference is -the price. My vet told me that.
